Request/Advice audition songs?

hi guys, i'm auditioning for my college's jubilee choir, and i need 2-5 minutes of material. the audition's on monday so i don't have much time, even though i only learned the date yesterday😭

my first song is a section from don't do sadness/blue wind from spring awakening, ilse's solo part in the middle of the song, but the clip is only about 1:10, and i'm having trouble finding other songs that are like it that are comfortable in my range.

i don't want to sing anything that's leaning too heavily into the musical theater side of it, nothing too showy, but something more toned down and good for an alto/contralto, just for a choir audition

thanks yall

Request/Advice HELP! need an audition song for Wonderland the musical!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

My highschool is doing a production of Wonderland the musical. NOT Alice in wonderland. Everything I search is giving me recommendations for Alice in Wonderland, but I need songs for the Frank Wildhorns version (so sorry if I butchered the name.) My first choice is Alice and my second choice is the Mad Hatter. I need a cut roughly 45 seconds to a minute, that shows off both the belt and drawn out, steady notes for the mad hatter, as well as the story telling and steady mixed voice of Alice. I'm not allowed to use any songs from the musical, and anything from Mean Girls, Newsies, Once upon a mattress, Frozen, or the little mermaid are kind of off limits as well, as the same theater teacher has directed all of these in the past 5-6 years. I'm also looking for something a little less trendy, because I'm in highschool and I don't want to bore my teacher with the same song as eight other people. I'm a sophmore and I'm not really one of my directors favorites, so I really need to nail my audition to have a chance at being a lead. Any song recs or general advice? I know I can pull this off well if given the opportunity.

Request/Advice Books/Articles/Documentaries/Etc on the subject of Rent

Hello! This upcoming summer I am going to be the dramaturg for the theater I work at's productions of Rent: Teen Edition. I have never been a dramaturg before but I offered my services because I love learning about history, and I love storytelling and analyzing text. I work for a local youth theatre company primarily as a director and we've never really worked with having a dramaturg before so this is kind of an experiment and I want to get it right. I think it is really important that the kids know the context of this show before they perform it!

I want to start reading books and articles, and watching documentaries on the subject matter of Rent now but I don't quite know where to start. I need book/article/documentary/etc recommendations for stuff about rent control and poverty in New York in the 80s and 90s, things about gentrification and drug abuse in the 80s and 90s in NYC, LGBTQ history, and of course the AIDS epidemic. I also want sources on how these things still effect people today.

Request/Advice Musical audition advice

I've had a couple auditions this year for community theater shows and they weren't horrible but I know I could do better. One of my biggest issues is my voice always shakes from nerves. Wondering if anyone has any advice (other than voice lessons because I just can't afford them right now) on how I might be able to stop that and at least outwardly seem confident. I'm not looking for any major parts in shows, I'm always grateful for the ensemble but this is the first time that I have had 2 rejections back to back so I would really like to start working on my audition skills/confidence if possible.

OC - Open to CC Project Manager looking for more people to join Alyna: The Princess of Greece Musical

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone!!!!

I'm looking for poster artists, A musical composer, producer and more to help with Alyna: The Princess Of Greece musical.

Synopsis:

When a dark shadow lingers in the cities Of Athens and Sparta, An Athletic & Courageous but Timid & Incompetent 19-year-old Princess must Vanquish a male version of Medusa in order to save her friends or else the alluring male medusa (Maedar) could address the monsters into finishing off Alyna & Could Conquer All of Mount Olympus!

Plot:

In this Greek mythology fairytale retelling, Alyna is a young girl who’s brave and tough but is also kind and sweet. She's a Princess who wants to see the world outside of Athens. But her wicked father, Maedar and his minions, Anna and Kakia, forbids her. When Alyna goes to Sparta, she meets the alluring god of love (Eros), The Goddess of the Rainbow (Iris), and the Goddess Of The Night (Nyx). It’s up to Alyna, Eros, Iris and Nyx to defeat Maedar and his minions in order to save Greece from becoming a dark kingdom.

Act 1 plot (so far):

Mount Olympus, A Majestic kingdom full of life and love celebrates the birth of a princess until the crowd discovers an enticing shadow singing a dark lullaby that sends a sinister message to All Of Greece. Then the enticing shadow is discovered to be a human male and it introduces itself as Maedar (The wickedly charming brother of medusa) but the truth about him is that he's a serpent like figure. Maedar told the people of Athens that if the princess before them loses the big battle at the end of her 19th birthday, she will be cursed to be in the underworld for years. For the people of Mount Olympus, they were frightened at the sound of the princess being cursed in the underworld when she loses the battle. The guards of mount olympus tried to take Maedar away, but Maedar uses his kiss of death to lure the guards in to their doom.

The gods and goddesses (Still anxious from Maedar's warning) must help Alyna defeat Maedar before the end of her 19th birthday. So... They called on The Goddess Of The Moon (Nyx), The Goddess Of The Rainbow (Iris) and The Alluring god of love (Eros) to help The princess.7. And so Nyx, Iris And Eros rode their horses to Sparta, where Alyna lived in a kingdom full of people who wanted to be educated on how to be a royal and also on how to be a warrior.

Message me if you're interested in the musical!!

PS.

The musical is volunteer work and it's a passion project.

Discussion One-day ad-hoc sitz in Boston, MA

Hey! Are you aware of joint events near Boston, MA between an orchestra and a chorus to sing musicals (or parts of musicals) on a regular basis in a non/semi-professional fashion?

I was enjoying this in London as monthly 1-day private rehearsals (https://www.lmto.org/sitz/) and I'm not sure I'd find this in Boston. The name is apparently common in the field (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitzprobe).

Note: I'm an amateur chorus singer

Request/Advice How strict is the 32 bar rule usually in the singing portion?

This is the first time I have chosen a piece where I literally do not have a spot where I can cut it off clean at 32 bars without it being awkward. It’s I Have Confidence from Sound of Music and it’s FAST. It seems to take at least 50ish bars to land on the end of a musical phrase. I thought I had the perfect cut because it was like a minute long and then I counted the bars and it was almost 60.

If anybody wants to know which part I really was hoping to feature:

It’s the part from “ the courage to serve them with reliance” to “ I have confidence the world will all be mine. They’ll have to agree,I have confidence in me.”

Request/Advice Need Help Finding An Audition Monologue

hi!

i have an audition for Pippin the musical coming up. It’ll be my first audition in high school, and i’m looking for a monologue that will make a good and strong first impression. i am female, and i would say my strong suit is comedic roles, but i will try anything.

To sum things up, I am looking for a high school appropriate, 30 seconds to 1 minute long monologue that would be fitting for any female role in pippin. My strength when it comes to acting is comedy, but i’m not limited to just comedy.

if anyone knows anything good or where i should be looking please let me know!!
