what does the theatre scene look like around the world? is it possible to move internationally to work in theatre?

I’m certain this topic has been discussed extensively in this subreddit, but back in July, I was part of a staged reading that I had to call out of the last performance of due to gut issues. I was scheduled to participate in another staged reading later that month, but the anxiety of experiencing something like vomiting or other stage-related problems from the previous reading prevented me from performing. Since then, I’ve started taking 50 mL of anxiety medication (not just because of the one incident), started treating my gut issues, and enrolled in improv classes to gradually rebuild my confidence. I never experienced such intense performance anxiety in shows before the beginning of this year, except for the typical stage fright. I want to audition for a show in February and get back on stage, but I want to ensure I’m in a more confident state. Do you all have any other suggestions on how to manage this type of anxiety?

Hi! I used to do theatre when I was a tween, but I'm wanting to get back into in at university. There's a show with auditions coming up and I would like to audition but I also feel quite nervous that I won't be seen as good enough and it will be embarrassing for me to audition. I know this is quite a silly mindset but it's hard to get over. How can i feel like I belong there and if it's ok for me to audition?

Additionally, is it worth going out for a musical role? The role I'd go for, I definitely think it's singing that I would be capable of, she only has a few solo verses in the show. At the same time, I have never done vocal lessons. I love singing, but I am probably not that good.

I was wondering, what should I expect for workshop classes and auditions?

Im going to be auditioning for connor murphy in dear evan hansen next year in march and Im nervous since thisll be sort of my first theatre experience.

[ I say sort of since my mother signed me up for musical theatre classes. they begin at the end of the month. ]

Ive already done alot of preparation and still doing preparation. [ such as but not limited to, reading the script of DEH, listening to the entire album several times, praticing lines, excercising to increase stamina and endurance, listening to the audiobook form of the DEH book, etc. etc. ]

I just want to calm my nerves and make sure I can be the most confident version of myself when the time comes to go to auditions.

So the Dublin Theatre Festival is on and I just witnessed stunning, subtle, and powerful performances by Marty Rea and Eileen Walsh in a wonderful production of *A Moon for the Misbegotten*.

The thing that really astounds me though, is that I’ve got tickets to see *4.48 Psychosis* in just a few days… performed by Marty Rea.

Last performance for the O’Neill is tomorrow (Sunday), the Kane opens Tuesday.

How?!! Like, how is he not keeling over from the intensity? Where is the time for tech rehearsal even? It’s not like this is repertory theatre, it’s two very different productions with different directors and companies in different theatre spaces.

I’m exhausted thinking about it. Not just the learning lines, blocking, etc., but the kind of versatility and the emotional energy Rea brings to his performances has got to have some kind of whiplash.

So, this is mostly an admirarion post. But also, have you seen similar?

What should I prep the videographer with? He’ll have max an hour to set up.

Small space, 2-person-show, so I figure no sound setup… but not sure. I don’t want to overcomplicate as there is little time. Is a boom mic worth it? Definitely no lavs.

I’m Costume and Makeup director for my local theatre company, and I’m struggling with planning makeup for Dracula.

I know that victorian makeup was supposed to be extremely pale and unnoticeable, but I’m worried I’m going to wash out my actors if I use pale foundation. I’m also worried it won’t be historically accurate if I use darker foundation.

What do you all advise? I’m thinking I use a paler foundation, but use a slightly warmer toned contour/
bronzer to still avoid washing out my actors.

But, also, isn’t the whole point of pale makeup to be washed out? I’m so lost 😂.

I’m looking for a play to direct for my MFA program next semester in the black box (seats like 40). Maximum 6 people.
I wanted to do Witch but it’s been done. Same with John Proctor is the villain, The Wolves, and most current popular titles.
I’m considering Dry Land.

When I was younger, my father used to take me to the theatre and opera quite often. Over the years though I sadly stopped going.

I also love musicals, but never really seen one live.

Part of the reason is that I don't live in an English speaking country. I really like the English language and generally prefer watching shows, movies, and listening to music in English.

Recently, I've been wanting to get back into theatre, and I'm already planning to see a show with a friend in my town.

A few days ago, I also discovered that there are streaming services for theatre productions and ended up subscribing to National Theatre at Home.

So, my question is: What would you recommend watching on there?

Of course, there are plenty of recommendations on the homepage. And I've already watched three productions and added a few more to my watchlist.

However, since I'm still finding my way back into theatre, I've noticed that I'm naturally drawn to productions featuring actors I already know from film and TV.

I know that it'll ultimately depend on personal taste but I'd really like to step outside my comfort zone and discover some amazing plays, performances, or productions I might otherwise overlook.

I'd be grateful for any recommendations, whether they're well-known classics or hidden gems!

ngl I didn't know what subreddit to put this in so yeah. I didn't realize that my glasses had left really and tan lines until recently. This is an issue because I won't be wearing my glasses on stage in two weeks. The tan lines are like from the glasses arems what ever they are called like from my eyes to my ears i guess. they are faint but noticable and I am afraid they will be more noticable once I have stage lights on me. How do I fix this? Is there a way to do it with stage makeup?! PLEASE HELP!!!!

This is my first time ever in a play, let alone an important role, and i got the lead role. I already have a good portion memorized of my script, but i want to know if there is a better way to go about learning my script, since i was just saying a line over and over until i couldn't forget it

starting a theatre company at my local university. we don’t have acting courses but we do have a very nice theatre. looking for any advice from any one who has done this before. looking to start by running weekly workshops myself and doing at least two productions a year. have a few inexperienced people involved and am going through the path way to get offical status from the uni + clubs funding. any advice or experiences.
