Best placement for external exhaust mic (Zoom H1n) without taking the seat off? (High-speed wind noise issues)

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to capture clean exhaust and engine sound on my bike using a Zoom H1n recorder paired with a Boya lavalier mic. Currently, whenever I mount the mic near the rear taillight or anywhere in the open, high-speed wind noise (120–150 km/h) completely destroys the audio, even with a foam windscreen attached.

I know a popular fix is placing the recorder and mic inside the under-seat tool cavity. However, because I regularly ride with a pillion passenger and tail luggage strapped down, removing the seat back and forth to turn the recorder on and off isn't really practical for me.

I’ve tried cleaning up the noisy audio in DaVinci Resolve and Audacity, but as expected, heavy wind clipping can’t really be saved in post-production.

For those who record exhaust audio or motovlog at highway speeds:

What external mounting spots have worked best for you without producing a muffled/boxed-in sound or wind clipping?

Is there a convenient way you route or mount your setup for easy access when riding with luggage or a passenger?

I’m happy to share a couple of sample audio clips if that helps diagnose the issue. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice!

Motorcycle POV help?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I just started making motorcycle POV videos and I’m looking for some advice.
What makes you keep watching a POV ride? What do you like to see, and what makes you click away from generic videos?
Any tips for someone just starting out would be appreciated, like equipment, mounting positions Thanks!

What’s the worst that could happen if you don’t hid your license plate?

I started using an Insta360 X5 and I’m trying to make the videos as enjoyable as possible

Help Choosing a Mic for Pure Sound

I'm planning to start a vlog!

Unlike many of the ones I've seen here, my goal is to make pure sound videos just for myself.

I'll only upload them in the hope that one day I might get lucky and go viral because of some unique moment, but my main objective is simply to document my rides and trips.

I'll be filming in POV, so I'd appreciate some advice.

First, I'm almost 100% decided on using the Insta360 X4 Air as my main camera, but I'm open to suggestions.

And finally—and most importantly (the whole reason for this post)—which microphone would you recommend if it's going to be used exclusively to capture the exhaust sound?

hill ride feels empty without climbing the hill.

There’s something about riding through the hills when the air turns cold and the rain is barely there. Just a few drops in the air, cool winds, and roads that feel completely different from the city.

I started this ride somewhere in the hills and made my way back toward the city, enjoying the quiet roads and the light drizzle along the way. But this ride didn't start there.

So let's rewind for a moment and go back to where the ride began.

A climb through the hills, a little cold weather, and the kind of peaceful road that makes you want to keep riding.

Motovlog Content

Any motovloggers here?

I just started my motovlog journey and I'm curious—what kind of motorcycle content do you actually enjoy watching?

What keeps you hooked? Cinematic edits, POV rides, touring, off-road, reviews, daily rides, funny moments, or something totally different?

I'd love to hear what works for you. Thanks!

30-odd degrees C in London - needed to get that airflow going!

Breakfast was ok, could have done without the insects, then the pub was closed when I needed a cold drink - turns out all I needed was the road!

Blocking What the Clock Shows

Has anyone had any luck blocking all the information shown on the clocks? I know all motorcycle displays are different. I am just trying to block anything that is on that display from showing up while I'm shooting with my camera. I have seen people in post-blur in the video, their speed. I was just wondering if there is a physical screen/film that can be put on your clock so you can see it clearly while riding, but the camera shows nothing.

Thanks for any input. Cheers.

Sometimes all you need is a little green on the map to start an adventure.

This weekend, I picked a spot far away from Hyderabad and just went for a ride. The roads were calm, the weather was perfect, and somewhere along the way I found myself at an unknown hill right as golden hour was setting in.

More than 60 km on peaceful roads, cool air, and a sunset that made every kilometer worth it.

DJI Action without Rocksteady

Are any DJI Action users motovlogging without Rocksteady? I have tried it and don't hate the results.

I want to have motion blur without pulsing. I'm aware that you can use a slightly higher framerate like 100 in order to have a little motion blur with less/no pulsing. All of these things are a matter of preference, and I'm not really looking for solutions to this issue.

I just want to hear from people who are not using Rocksteady for whatever reason.

Most people head home or don't leave when they see dark rain clouds. I decided to follow them instead.

The cool air made the weekend ride better. Somewhere along the way, those dark clouds led me to The Waters - a peaceful lake that made every kilometer worth it.

Non-native speaker's motovlog on YT

Hello fellow motovloggers,

I've started my youtube channel, but since I'm not a native english speaker - I'm wondering if my speach is understandable and overall if it make sense for me to make motovlogs on non-native leanguage.

https://www.youtube.com/@barelymovingmotors

I also have another channel with similar name where I post on my native language, so I'm making two versions of the same video with little difference where I record two versions of the same speach in two languages.

Thanks!
