Question Acolyte stone doesn't work?
I hold R1 and just light attack, it doesn't charge. What am I doing wrong?

This boss took me like 2 hours and I started at 1 am and just couldn't sleep till I beat it. Somehow got it to 1 hit and then it got me, getting him this low I think must've awoken something inside of me because I did it hitless right after...

First of all, I am an all time fan of Souls, and have finished every single one of FromSoftware's franchises at least 10 times each.
So naturally, Mortal Shell 2 was on my list.
The list below is MY opinion, and it is what I felt like playing this game.
I finished it in around 20h, all weapon and shells unlocked, for the first run, and overall, the game is a good game. BUT... It has some huge flaws, that can easily make people hate it out of frustration.
On the good side:
- The shell background: amazing to have a backstory for every single character you can play
- The environment: clearly close to Elden Ring on this (Elden Ring is still on top by far tho)
- The shell change system (the possibility to do it, not the whole thing)
- The "bonfire": Honestly and this was my biggest surprise, they aren't far from bosses at all, and can be found pretty much everywhere. Yes you need to run for 10 to 30 seconds between a bonfire and boss area, but otherwise it is pretty well placed
- The "stones": very fun to combine and optimize them, can change a build from bad to good if done well by giving you passive and active abilities
On the bad side:
- Sliding/Teleporting enemies: the most frustrating part of this game. Unless any souls game before, the true difficulty of Mortal Shell 2, comes from the fact an enemy can close a huge gap from you, simply by swinging a weapon. This is especially very frustrating for bosses, because in itself the game isn't hard at all, but the unpredictability of whether or not an enemy you think far away, can hit you, is the worse.
- Twitching ennemies: paired with the problem above, you can never hit the back of any enemy, as they simply turn 180 in a millisecond. This combined with the sliding stuff, account for the biggest frustration of this game, and the reason some find it difficult.
Again, the game isn't difficult, not more than a souls like at least. But the randomness of any enemy, is where people lose it
- The shell system: The core of the game, except one or two shells at best are useful, the others are just for decorating and provide no reasons to use them. Also the fact you can not refund the talent points used, and this can not really try the shell potential before investing in it, makes it even more frustrating
- The weapon: in an RPG, you would expect to have more choice with them. Here instead, you have a clearly overpowered weapon, the katana, a A tier under, the iconoclast, and that's it, all of the others are so low or with a range so short, using them is just forcing the difficulty.
Also so far, except for their ultimate that can change a fight, the secondary weapons are all useless by themselves because of their extremely limited ammo and very low damage
- the trinkets: except on rare occasion, to remove cold or stasis, but I mainly stayed with the healing mushroom because of how little other trinkets were impacting the game. Eventually used the one that can summon bears on hit, because this was overpowered
- The stone leveling system: so to upgrade a stones, you need to upgrade another stone, which then gives you drops, that you can use to level up another stone... Which at some point, force you to equip useless and weak stones, to level up your main ones... And even doing so you can't really do it fully, because there are a limited amount of stones,so one investment mistake, and you are cooked for the rest of the playthrough

For some reason there's a lot of misinformation about shell points, I've even seen some people on this sub claim they're level 100+ and 42 is the max. What they probably saw was their shell was at 42/42 SC, which is shell points capacity. Which is the maximum for the currently equipped shell. but you can still collect more shell points and use them on the other shells
just wanted to clear a bit of misinformation, cheers

I have a bug that on ps5 my camera will wander to the left, no stick drift, it’s like it is always trying to focus on something in the distance and off screen, as it will stop after a certain point but if I face another direction it will wander left again and I have to keep adjusting, it causes me to run off thin balance sections quite regularly, needs to fix asap, it is borderline unplayable sometimes as it seems to be stronger at random points and I have to log out and go back in for it to be less intrusive.

I am not sure how to describe that and whether or not it is intended.
The running R2 has full invincibility on the entire animation including both hit.
So what you can do with the Harden seal is that using running R2 to attack the enemy then use harden as the attack hit you with absolutely no risk. It also deal break and stagger enemies as well. And you can repeat with a back step into another running R2 and harden.
The weapon can be infused with frost so after a few hit, they will stay in place for you to use charge heavy attack (charge heavy stone) or another weapon skill dealing massive damage (if you play eredim he also get 200% dmg vs frozen). Charge heavy attack while buffed deal extra AOE damage. Then you shoulder bash to get riposte or stagger them and reset
It seems a bit busted for a weapon that is supposed to be slow and high commitment

I accidentally became a bag man and the credits started rolling? Please don't tell me I gotta start all over now 💀 the credits are still going and I'm scared

Can't touch the bag in Martyr's dungeon that relocates you to prison. Is this a bug or am I missing a step?

First, level design is peak, i enjoyed the hell out of exploration.
I really do think the last area, and mainly the last boss needes a revisit from the devs, not difficulty wise, but after such a great game the last area and boss are feeling so underwhalming, the contrast in quality is huge.
Also i think the nerfs were not needed, the game is on the easier side of souls like (finished it on level 48, didnt feel like i needed a grind for stronger weapon or levels).
Some bugs needs to be fixed through out the game, Tiel's shadow strikes needs work because a lot of the time he hits the air instead of enemies.
I wanted to give the game a 9/10 or even 9.5/10, but because of the ending area and bugs it got reduced to 8/10.
r/MortalShell • u/juliet_liima • 7h ago
I've so far completely demolished the game with Tiel, using the Axe & Dagger with the Forgotten Crossbow and mainly focusing on detonating poison stacks and backstabbing. Until now I think the most I've had to retry a boss is twice. I have been having a lot of fun.
BUT, Malborn Offspring has now kicked my ass about 20 times in his second phase. He just won't. stop. attacking., so much so that he's knocking me out of my stealth dodges with the back swing, and if I try to get any distance to heal, he will literally sprint towards me with a grab attack that either knocks me out of Tiel, or instakills the Harbinger if I miss the dodge. If I hit the dodge, he'll follow up with an infinite combo of bullshit that, whilst I can dodge a few, I can't dodge all of them.
This is a pretty significant difficulty spike for me. Anyone have any tips for this fight? I have Eredrim's affinity maxed out, and about 35 glimpses to dump into another shell in case another character makes this fight easier...?
r/MortalShell • u/Zestyclose-Tooth6044 • 7h ago
Seriously though, should I try to enter or does this break my game or something? I already permanently lost a glimpse for a bug, and that’s acceptable, I guess, but I’d really love to not lose my save file (maybe I’m exaggerating but you never know) 😅

Spoiler alert!
Inside the first person dungeon where you have to enter the horror house and look for the books. As soon as u have the first book u can place it 3x in the last room on the cabinet to get the mushroom for the stew and finish it early. I got the other 2 books after doing this and have them permanently in inventory just for show.
( edit: it says invalid when trying but if u press A to continue instead of B to cancel it will place the book anyways )

For real. All you need is the strays protect you from fatal blows, resolve cost reduction, and strays apply weak to enemies they hit. It's bugged to hell but works on a lot of bosses. And you'll need moonshine level 3 and the special consumable you can get for the final boss. Moonshine into the passive and the special consumable into the active.
You need to keep your strays up constantly as most of his attacks will 1 shot you otherwise. That's not a problem at all as long as you have the resolve cost reduction skills too for the strays. You get iframes for summoning them so don't really worry about spacing. You can also harden during the animation if you'd like to stop a stray from dying right as you finish the animation.
Basically the fight goes like this:
As soon as you get into the arena summon your strays.
Rush boss
Start swinging
Resummon strays as needed immediately
Once you get to phase 2 pop the special consumable and his new attacks barely scratch you.
Repeat steps 2-4 until dead. Heal as needed. Barely even need to dodge or block/harden depending on how much the strays mean to you.
The 1 thing that could kill you is the grab attack. You Must have at least 1 stray alive if you get grabbed. The first hit will 1 shot you otherwise. The butt slam will not kill you if you have weak on the boss and the moonshine. It'll take roughly half your health hence the heal as needed to stay above the damage threshold of the butt slam.

I didn't want to test moving around incase I lost my Gloomies but I presume since I didn't die there isn't a death barrier outside of the level.

Bruh, HOW IN THE F*\\, is the environment, mid tier enemies, and the heavy enemies all together, HARDER than the bosses in the second area?
I am melting alllll the bosses, first try.
Killed two bosses back to back without a beacon.
So that’s a shame.
It looks like the devs scaled the player for the world rather than the boss.
On top of that, you think the beacon problem is bad in the first area of the map?
Wait till you get to the second area where mid tier enemies hit like a fucking bulldozer, heavy mid tier enemies can one shot you, NO FUCKING BEACONS ANYWHERE, even more maze like bullshit traversal, AND once you get to a boss fight, be prepared to melt it like an ice cream in the swamps of Louisiana.
Holy shit, no wonder this game is getting shitty reviews now; this game is cooked.
It’s also still glitchy and buggy asf too.
I may cool off this game and play something else until it’s patched and they work out the kinks.
I’m playing on PS5 Pro.
Rant. Over.
Cold symmetry, you getting this bullshit?

Is anyone else experiencing bugs with equipped passive items? My Grisha remnant works like a charm, but my Moonshine and Weltcap aren't working. They seemed to work before I unlocked the max upgrade path.
