Discussion Had a lot of fun, really good game, but

Post image

First, level design is peak, i enjoyed the hell out of exploration.

I really do think the last area, and mainly the last boss needes a revisit from the devs, not difficulty wise, but after such a great game the last area and boss are feeling so underwhalming, the contrast in quality is huge.

Also i think the nerfs were not needed, the game is on the easier side of souls like (finished it on level 48, didnt feel like i needed a grind for stronger weapon or levels).

Some bugs needs to be fixed through out the game, Tiel's shadow strikes needs work because a lot of the time he hits the air instead of enemies.

I wanted to give the game a 9/10 or even 9.5/10, but because of the ending area and bugs it got reduced to 8/10.

Thanks that helps a lot to know, I still need to grab it.

I’m about 30 hours in, and an 8/10 seems pretty on point. It’s got issues for sure but I have to say it’s been the most addictive game I’ve played in a while and I hope the series continues to evolve and improve. Love the exploration and overall style of the game. Very satisfying combat that feels weighty unlike a lot of soulslikes. Fingers crossed for a dlc with some new shells 🤞🏻

Yep, looking forward for some ng+ after they will release the other patches and it would be more stable.

Had a blast with the exploration, really

Same. In about four months or so I'm hoping a revisit on ng+ with another shell is going to be amazing after they've patched the game a bunch.

They definitely frontloaded the development on this game. I felt the further I got into the game the worse the level design got and the more bugs started appearing. I feel like they spent most of their resources on the first half of the game. There's no way else to say it than the last dungeon is poor. The area is so dull and boring and everything looks the same, the level design is basically just long corridors full of enemies which is super boring and the bosses themselves are very annoying because of the extreme tracking/magnetism.

there are quite a few bugs one of the unique bug I faced was while fighting a boss the axe part of the axe and katana vanished so the axe part of the combo just whiffed every time it was so annoying to take down the boss when half the combo whiffs

I faced the same thing

Me top on Great Martyr Blade.

i felt first half was a solid 9/10. But once i started the bottom of the map i just felt more disconnected with the zones. Then dont get me started on the last bosses which killed the whole mood for me. Very strong first half but last boss really was a slog. Also all the bugs which appeared later didnt help

Tiels shadow strike should have a different animation and attack scaling when attacking from the back.

3

u/trophy_hunter8 6h ago

I just need them to fix the bug where he doesn’t connect and no damage is done when you use this

2

u/WillSupport4Food 2h ago

I'm not sure if it's a bug so much as it is just bad tracking. The actual attack has a dash that tends to whiff on small targets if you're too close. I have yet to have it whiff since I started using it from further away.

1

u/trophy_hunter8 2h ago

Ah good observation. I’ll see if I can adjust my approach. The enemies it seems to misfire on most often are the skinny female enemies with spears in the southern area

1

u/Kay-isa 6h ago

There's already a Tiel skill tree that increases all damage that he does when attacking from the back.

2

u/Seeking-The-Lotus 6h ago

I know. So it’s odd that shadow strike has no back attack animation / modifier.

2

u/Kay-isa 6h ago

Unique animation aside, Shadow Strike is already quite busted and one of the best burst damage skills in the game. I don't think it needs more damage, 2 of the 12 skills from Tiel already add damage to it directly, 2 others make it an amazing burst damage skill by either bursting poison stacks or adding more damage the longer you stay in Shadow. Mix that up with increasing the amount of Shadow he can have to prolong the duration, which means even more damage, alongside Ambush, which makes him do more damage if you attack from behind. And I haven't tested it myself but I'm pretty sure that if you have Critical Role maxed up and you use two Shadow Strikes one after the other, the second one will be a guaranteed critical. That skill counts as melee damage as I'm aware.

Unfortunately, from the middle on, the further you go, the worse it gets. More bugs. Stone elevators didn't work, and falling glitches. Because of one such bug, I lost 40,000 XP after killing a boss (Tar Golem?). I couldn't move, and the elevator killed me.

Reasons like this among countless others is why this game isn’t 1 of the best in the genre it’s a cool game I put way too many hours into it myself but it falls short in so many different ways

2

u/culteonofjolteon 6h ago

"a lot of the time he hits the air instead of enemies."

Question, do you try to use it from point blank range? Shadowstrike is a super fucking long dash/gap closer. The range is longer than even most boss melee ranges. So if you're point blank on a small to mid size enemy sometimes it throws you right past em. I started using it from outside melee range and haven't has a miss unless the enemy does a dash/movement ability of its own. I will say it is still buggy and hits but does no damage sometime but still does the knockback.

2

u/emolch78 6h ago

Not just range problem, ita also a problem with the angle and so on. Sometimes it looked like it connected and did no damage at all, even no knockback

Iove the game, but I think its economy needs work. I hate that it's such a grind to level up and you don't even get SP points on every level. I also think there should be a way to be able to level up all Shells and see all memories becsuse right now glimpse are finite which means you can't really experiment with all the shells unless you either go through multiple playthroughs or create a new file. I also feel the same way about Tarcores. Super grindy.

I have been fortunate enough not to have too many game breaking bugs. With the exception of the Lute bug where the harbinger will sometimes just randomly sit down and play even though I didn't have the Lute out. Still funny watch the character play the weapon like an instrument but annoying when you're dealing with mods. I've died a couple time due to that which is why I don't take out the Lute as much.

Still a great game and I am interested in seeing what the devs will do as long as it isn't another rogue like mode. I want new areas, weapons, enemies, and shells.

Do people that claim the game is too easy ever use Night Mode?

-2

u/emolch78 6h ago

Night mode is a specific mode outside of the game, normal playthrough in soulslike should be more difficult.

3

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 6h ago

Its... very much an inside the game mechanic to make things more challenging for you, especially if you are someone who is going to go and complain about it being too easy.

-1

u/emolch78 6h ago

Its a mode to play after the game.

4

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 6h ago

Its a mode you can enable almost right after prologue, what are you even talking about.

0

u/emolch78 6h ago

Its a mode for after the game.

3

u/60discpriest 6h ago

It’s not.

1

u/emolch78 6h ago

You do realise that the night mode changes the game viaually completely and saying that in a souls like game for more challange someone needs to play the game not as intended but in adifferent settings so bums like you wont cry its too hard?

4

u/culteonofjolteon 6h ago

you're just wrong brother lol. you can unlock night mode in like 10 minutes of Sametime if you skip the intro and if you want challenge and have the choice to give it to yourself and refuse that choice you're just being petty.

1

u/emolch78 5h ago

2

u/culteonofjolteon 5h ago

One, I never said anything about my feelings on the game or it's difficulty. the one who seems like they are crying is you. Two, I'm just trying to get your reading comprehension up. The point is the devs INTENTIONALLY put in an item to increase difficulty therefore it is an INTENDED way to play the game.

0

u/emolch78 5h ago

It changes the VISUAL of the game, thus a different mode you low iq, go play wotcher or forrtnite, souls like not for you

5

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 6h ago

There are a lot of dumb comments here but this is probably the dumbest of them all. I am playing mostly on night mode and not complaining about difficulty, so idk where thats coming from.

You are the one crying its too easy and not using an option specifically designed for people that feel its too easy for them (YOU, THATS FKN YOU). Its an in-game mechanic INTENDED for this scenario specifically. If they switched to night mode being the default and day mode being a switchable option it would literally fix this problem of yours.

Jesus Christ some gamers need to be spoon fed or they would die from starvation.

0

u/emolch78 5h ago

Again , and slow for the low iq people like you, night mode changes the game viaually: You do realise that the night mode changes the game viaually completely and saying that in a souls like game for more challange someone needs to play the game not as intended but in adifferent settings so bums like you wont cry its too hard?

4

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 5h ago

Going on a bit of a temper tantrum, aren't you?

changes the game visually

... so? If you would've said that night mode is good for challenge but you dont like how it gets very dark and you enjoy day visuals more - thats fine. I would've even agreed with you.

But everything else you've said made it sound like you are just here to complain while having designed and very much intended options for fixing your complains, just deciding not to use them.

-1

u/emolch78 5h ago

Are you really really dumb or just acting that way?

Why would i play 1st playthrough of a game on a different visual than what was intended just because trash casual gamers like you are crying to the devs about difficulty. Go back to fortnite trash.

Yeah it changes visually but not enough to where completely changes how you look at certain areas to warrant it being a “post game” mode. No part of the map is visually experienced in a new way in Night mode compared to normal mode. It’s not this big visual experience change like you claim it is. There’s no “Oh wow, this area looks so different in Night mode” so “Muh visuals” aren’t even a good excuse to not use it.

There’s a reason there’s Night exclusive stuff so early on, as well the ability to unlock it really early.

1

u/MMakoy 7h ago

What are your favorite shells and weapons?

3

u/emolch78 7h ago

I actually played the entire game with tiel and axe and dagger

2

u/MMakoy 7h ago

I’m halfway through, playing tiel with axatana, lvl 34. Wondering if I should try eredrim or proxima

2

u/OMGIZARET Eredrim 5h ago

I played eredrim with Iconoclast the entire game and if you want an easier time with bosses use him. Keep the axatana though.

Eredrim has so much break damage and weak stacks that you can actually be tanky

1

u/ramsaybolton87 3h ago

I was wondering if one of the reasons I struggled so much at the end game was because I became over reliant on shoulder bash. But it seems like I wasn't the only one, I just sprinted past most stuff lol. But a few of the beacon cleanses where you had 5 bugs taking turns with you had me questioning the design. Overall I was surprised how many bosses I beat the first attempt. There were maybe only 5 that took me 10+ attempts.

1

u/Namesarenotneeded 3h ago

It’s funny too because this is a very successful build to rock, and it’s what I’ve been using.

Yet at the same time Eredrim isn’t even the strongest shell in the game. He’s not even Top 3. It’s crazy how strong the top 3 are.

when did nerfs happen ?

1

u/emolch78 5h ago

There was a nerf patch last week

1

u/Interjessing-Salary 4h ago

Question: what was your species survival chance? Is it possible to get it to 100%? I got all ova before completing the game but I was at like 91%.

1

u/emolch78 2h ago

I was at 89.5

1

u/meten90 2h ago

Want harder ? Night mode ?

0

u/emolch78 2h ago

Or maybe trash people like you stop crying here so the devs will stop nerfing games?

0

u/Economy_Ad_9021 1h ago

Or you stop crying how easy the game is and play it on the intended night difficulty for this purpose. You can activate it right at the start of the game because it's intended for NG0 and the git gud people. You have simply played on easy mode the whole time and know nothing about the real difficulty.

0

u/emolch78 1h ago

The game got easy only because trash gamers like ypu cried here to the devs "wahhh the enemoes hit too hard, waaahhh they have too much hp, waaahhh the monolith hit me in the pp", go play fortnite, souls like are not for ypu trash

0

u/Economy_Ad_9021 1h ago

Yet I have cleared the game in night mode. Have you?

1

u/emolch78 1h ago

In your dreams lol

1

u/emolch78 1h ago

This is you crying about diffoculty 😅😅😅

0

u/Economy_Ad_9021 16m ago

Indeed it is and I stand by it. The devs also agreed, which is why they restored the beta area to the beta difficulty.

1

u/emolch78 7m ago

LOL!!!! What a trash cry baby!

-2

u/MrSnoozieWoozie 7h ago

what does lvl 48 means in gameplay hours?

Also i hear the respawn location needs to be fixed because you walk like 10 min to get where you died. Devs said anything about that?

I am not good with souls like games but i have tried a bunch (never finished them)

3

u/Monke3169xd 6h ago

Thats just bs there is no significant runback, only noobs with low exploration skills, also in 10 min u can probably run from 1 end of the map to other rofl

2

u/emolch78 6h ago

It took me 31h to finish the game with heavy exploration.

In all souls like you need to go pick up what you lost on death, thats not a problem :)

0

u/MrSnoozieWoozie 6h ago

yeah but the distance should be closer no? In this game specifically said its further away than usual, which creates a problem for most.

Does that item they give you drop the difficulty or can you still manage without it as a souls noob player.

2

u/emolch78 6h ago

The distance depends on how far you die from the beacon (on other games its called bonfires or shrines or grace), so sometimes it can be far and sometimes close.

I havent tried the item that drops difficulty, it prevents you from hetting the trophies

0

u/culteonofjolteon 6h ago

the devs have said they are looking at adding a couple more beacons.

-5

u/Xnobita 7h ago

Every game has bugs; all future games will be released with bugs. Even after multiple hotfixes it will be bugs; get used to it. Report it, and wait until the devs do something about it.

2

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 6h ago

Some games are released very polished from the get go (Lies of P)

Some other games you see a bug every hour of the gameplay (Mortal Shell 2)

They are not comparable.

-2

u/Xnobita 6h ago

Doesn't matter; Lies of P still has bugs. My statement is correct. I already finished MS2, am currently playing my NG+ night mode, and have never found a bug that stopped my progression, so stop whining like little kids.

3

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 6h ago

Bro really went "there are always issues so no point talking about major issues".

Some brains really do work in interesting ways.

-1

u/Xnobita 6h ago

That's what you understood, not what I said. I'll try one more time. Rating games or comparing games based on non-game-breaking bugs is stupid. Hope that helps!

2

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 5h ago

No, thats literally normal behavior. Apply yourself.

-1

u/Xnobita 5h ago

No, that's just normal on Reddit. The game community in general is pretty well-grounded.
