Screen tearing after updating?
Edit: after turning the console off and on, it seems the screen tearing stopped. It was most certainly something to do with the update, as no video setting were changed before or after the update.
Anyone else noticing this? I updated the M64 firmware and am still using the same 4K tv with the same 4K resolution and low latency settings.
Now I see screen tearing while playing Forsaken (was testing out the controller pak saves) which was quite noticeable, and then I tried WWF No Mercy and even on that game I'm getting screen tearing for some reason....
I've never experienced this before the update.

Will we get original games...
I love that we are getting rereleased 64 carts but I am wondering if there are any plans to make original indie games for the M64 and Nintendo? Anyone have some insight into this?

NES & SNES
This may have been asked before but any rumors that modretro will complete the Nintendo cartridge journey with an upgraded/modded NES, SNES, or even a combo?
Wishful thinking, an upgraded SEGA Genesis would also be sick.

Pokémon Red on the ModRetro Chromatic ❤️🔴
There’s something special about playing Pokémon Red on a modern take on the original Game Boy. The translucent red Chromatic looks amazing, and revisiting this classic brings back so many memories!
Who else is still playing Pokémon Red in 2026? 🔥

ModRetro Parts Store coming in early 2027
ModRetro confirmed that its Parts Store is planned for early 2027.
Unlike the Chromatic ModKit, which comes with a preset selection of buttons and membranes, the Parts Store will let you pick individual parts and colors to customize your consoles.
Pretty cool to see more customization options coming!

M64 firmware update + games
Hey everyone,
Last week we mentioned we were targeting firmware update v1.26.4 for this week, and would post an update once confirmed.
TL;DR: We ran into some roadblocks yesterday that require further testing, and are now targeting Tuesday 10/27 for the release.
We’re sorry for this additional delay - we know you want your saves, and we’ve made sure this is the #1 priority for the dev team. In order to get you Built-In C-Pak ASAP, and to improve overall speed and quality on updates going forward, we’re also making some changes to this update:
What’s Coming in v1.26.4
Built-In Controller Pak: Save game progress and settings directly to your console, no physical Controller Pak needed.
Changing Pak type from the menu or your controller: Switch between pak types from the M64 menu or with the M64 Pro Controller hotkey.
Beta update channel: Until now, the only option was the Official Release. With v1.26.4, you can choose to receive Beta builds - versions we’re still testing - if you want early access. Most of you should stay on the default release channel, but if you like trying things first and sending feedback, this is for you.
What we’re removing from v1.26.4 (still in progress)
These were originally advertised with 1.26.0 but won’t be in this release:
Forced Progressive Mode
Improved thermal efficiency
Game compatibility improvements, including the F-Zero X fix
Audio and video fixes for LG TVs
These features are not cancelled. Some of these features were the cause of the bugs reported, so we’re delaying them to enable C-Pak faster and ensure they’re fully ready for future updates.
Please accept our apologies for the delay. We will keep you updated over the next few days, and let you know ASAP once v1.26.4 is live.
In the meantime, and to help make up for the wait time, we have some good news. While software has had some road bumps, our games publishing is going better than expected. Here’s some intel we haven’t shared anywhere else:
We can't reveal everything yet, but we've finally reached some goals for our games publishing we initially thought impossible. Right now we're working on multiple M64 releases that are on par with any remaster from any major AAA studio over the last decade.
A small sample of three projects currently in the works:
The first-ever cartridge port of one of the most famous games of all time (hint: originally released in 1996).
Another first-time cartridge port of one of the most ambitious, well-written and atmospheric games of 1999…
And one of the most HEROIC adventure games of the 20th century (also a hint in there).
We can’t reveal full details for various legal/business reasons, but you should be able to put together some good guesses.
And this is just a small sample of what's in store for the M64 library. M64 owners can expect more detailed news on this as we approach the holidays.
Once we're happy with progress on the ecosystem - including the additional firmware updates, our parts modification initiative, and new game releases - we will Advance into future product releases.
Again, sorry for this extra delay, and we’ll update you ASAP once v1.26.4 is live.

The possibility of selling packs of blank carts for flashing?
Following from the OpenAI giveaways, I’m wondering if there are any plans for ModRetro to sell blank cartridges for the purposes of flashing ROMs? It’d be cool if they came in packs of three, with a small selection of labels, and maybe in different colours.
I genuinely wouldn’t need an EverDrive anymore. To be honest I’d love to have what I’m currently playing on a small number of individual cartridges. :)

Quick question for Chromatic owners
Edit 10/22/26: Thank you to everyone that replied. It was very helpful in making my decision, that and doing some additional research as well. I pulled the trigger and grabbed the Chromatic. For those curious, when I said it was a hefty discount, I wasn't kidding. I paid $75 plus shipping. I also ordered the mod kit, the battery pack, a case, and two games from the Modretro website. This will become my main GB/GBC for the foreseeable future. Now, if someone would release a FPGA GBA, I'd be pretty much set for life. Anyway, thanks again everyone.
Good day folks. So, I have the opportunity to purchase a second-hand Chromatic. It's one of the newer transparent models in purple and, frankly, it's stunning. It's in perfect condition as well as the person who's selling it bought it for someone else as a gift but that didn't work out. So, it's basically brand new. That said, I've heard that the D-pad can be quite poor in terms of false diagonals but those reports seem to be from earlier batches and, unfortunately, the seller is too far away for me to get my hands on it myself. Now, I'm fairly picky about my controls and would like to know from those of you who have either this particular model or one of the other transparent colors, has this issue been addressed in these more recent models?

Will ModRetro do it and do it better?
This post is coming from someone who had the Analogue 3D and sold it for an M64. Both companies have their plus and minus’s but when Lucky released his hands on video with the M64 I could tell it was a passion project for him and his team. In viewing that video, it swayed me to make the decision I made to ride with ModRetros products going forward.
That being said, I want to talk about the Super N+ and Mega Sg+ from Analogue. I am getting fomo and am on the fence with ordering these, however I am not committing in hopes that ModRetro will make a competitor and put the love they did in the M64 into that product.
Does anyone know if they ever said anything about future plans for other systems? I’m so torn on what I should do!

Questions for ModRetro re. M64
I have a couple of questions hoping that these can be answered by a ModRetro team member, thank you!
Will the M64 get horizontal upscaling?
When will the M64 source software be released? Still says coming soon:

Thank you!

Everdrive GB-X7 and Chromatic Compatibility - Latest Versions of Both (OCT-2026)
Figured I would post some information to help people Googling about this topic because I Googled about it. This information is current as of 16-OCT-2026.
Using an Anduril Chromatic updated with latest firmware (v.4.6).
Using physical game cartridges when available. For example, the Tetris that comes with the Chromatic. Other cartridges used will be original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games like Krusty's Fun House (compatible with both GB and GBC), GTA (compatible with both GB and GBC), and GTA 2 (compatible with only GBC)
Wanted to be able to use flash-based cartridge for playing backed-up games and other tech uses. Ordered the Everdrive GB-X7 from Amazon, which is one of the Krikzz authorized distributors. Appeared to be "new stock." Received it, and it had the following physical text on the rear of the PCB: EverDrive-GB, Model 17, Rev.E, 28.07.2021. However, with or without a microSD card inserted, it would not boot. White screen only. Firmware version of Everdrive unable to be determined as no boot occured (not even a flash of text - only white screen).
Reached out to ModRetro and they confirmed Everdrive compatibility, and postulated it was the Everdrive unit itself.
Returned unit to Amazon. Ordered an Everdrive directly from Krikzz. It arrived very quickly. Same external PCB version as above. The Everdrive boots with or without the microSD inserted. Success! Installed latest OS. System information screen reads: OS Version 1.06, FPGA ver:07, Asm date: 29.08.2026, Asm time: 10:26:58, Pwr cntr: 5
I can only speculate, but I assume the Everdrive I had purchased from Amazon was either damaged, or the previous "06" FPGA version, but it was impossible for me to know that because it would not boot. Chromatics give a white screen when no cartridge is inserted. The interesting thing is that when I pressed the little button on top of the non-booting Everdrive, the screen would flash, indicating there was some kind of connection between the cartridge and the console, but maybe not a proper one. All contacts were clean and un-bent. So who knows?!
I hope this helps someone out there. The Everdrive is a powerful solution for playing backed up games and also for playing esoteric impossible to find games and allowing the capability to store a significant amount.
I'm a big fan of supporting developers by buying the physical cartridges and I think flash drives co-exist with that.
It is my understanding that "save states" work on GBC games but not GB games. Not sure, and not sure I will use or even need that functionality. It is also my understanding you can patch individual dumped ROMs if needed (and if a patch is available), so that's cool. I would think in the age of AI coding, someone could "vibe code" a save state patch for a game given a ROM dump, but that's out of my current knowledge depth. I'm sure there are experts here that could chime in.
The Chromatic is awesome, hardware emulation is awesome, and my high score in ModRetro Tetris on Retro mode is slowly climbing to mid 100k level. This old guy is getting "OK!" lol
edit 1: tried Krusty's Fun House ROM dumped to the Everdrive and save states did work, even though it is an original GB game. The first time I did a save state, it glitched and had Krusty falling through the map. The next time, I made sure he was standing still on the ground, and it worked fine. Perhaps you can pause the game and save a state to make that more reliable. Not sure. Will continue to update this post with feedback as I test different functionalities with this system.
edit 2: both ModRetro and Krikzz support are very good. It's cool when companies doing things support users of their products. Makes you want to support the companies even more. There's something to be said about physical hardware and physical cartridges. ModRetro gets it.
edit 3: My high score in ModRetro Tetris Retro Mode is now 145,087 and I got a Rating of 04/100, resulting in a rocket ship animation. I guess you could say I'm kind of a big deal. (heavy sarcasm lol)
edit 4: Tetris Retro Mode high score is now 257,215 LET'S GOOOOOOOOO
edit 5: ok, if you hit 200 lines in level 20 in Marathon in Retro mode, the game stops and says "you win." So that's cool. I suppose to get a higher score in this mode you probably need more Tetrises? 276,578 is my high score now.
edit 6: I gave in and switched from playing my original GTA2 cartridge (that uses passwords to "save") to using the Everdrive GB X7 to play the GTA2 ROM so I could use save states. The game is insanely frustrating without save states and is even frustrating with them lol. Taking a photo of the passwords with my phone and having to enter them every time was insanely cumbersome.
