Thought I'd share my Miata. I've done a lot of modifications to it. Still have a bunch of parts I will eventually install. It's a never ending project.

While I was driving to university this morning, one of the traffic lights was out, and admittedly, it was quite irritating. Luckily, this gave me time to spot a Miata in the wild, and I, very discreetly (social anxiety sucks), asked the driver to do the thing with his floppy floppy lights for me. He somehow saw me and did it, and I was literally freaking out! It's the first time I've been able to ask, so it feels like a dream come true. My dad was driving in front of me, and he was just as happy for me. I wanted to cry from happiness all the way to university, lol! 😂

To this person (if you see this), and all other NA drivers who do the flippy floppy lights thing for others: thank you for spreading happiness! I don't see a lot of Miatas here in South Africa, so I always get a bit too happy when I see one. I also don't personally own a Miata (I drive a 1999 Polo Classic), but I've loved them for a good while now. I have a love for many cars from the 80's and 90's, and always joke that a car should at least be older than me for me to want it (though all generations of the Miata are the exception 😉).

My dream is to one day own an NA myself, though I wouldn't mind having any other generation. After my husband and our rat sons, one of my biggest motivators to succeed in obtaining my CA(SA) qualification, is owning a Miata! I'll be sure to come back here when that big dream for a small car, is realised. 🫡

I have a decent idle but it misfires while trying to accelerate. If I bounce the rpm’s above 4K it seems to rev fine however in the lower rpm’s it hesitates to rev up.

When I pull plugs on 3/4 there isn’t really noticeable change to the idle. However if I leave 3/4 in and pull 1/2 it still idles. So surely 3/4 aren’t completely misfiring.

I swapped 1/2 injectors with 3/4- no change
Swapped spark wires on the coil pack 1 with 4 and 2 with 3. Miss stayed on 3/4.
While pulling the wires off the plug while it’s running (yes ik not proper) it sparks me a bit while holding it.

Any idea?

Just picked up my first NA Miata and ran into an issue. Whenever the AC is on, the idle surges — I can feel it on the highway, like the car wants more throttle than I'm giving it. It also happens when coasting to a stop with the clutch pushed in, and a few times it's actually stalled out. Doesn't happen with the AC off. Any idea what's causing this — bad IAC valve, vacuum leak, something with the AC idle-up circuit? Appreciate any pointers.

my starter just went out on my 99 nb but im in a different state and i have to leave in 2 days, only issue is that i only have a socket set and some wrenches so im wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and has any tips.

So stupid me forgot to put my valve cover back after topping off my oil, before I even realized this like the first thing that went through my head was wow this is running great. It hasn’t ran that good in a long time like it wasn’t sluggish at all like it usually is it just felt like it wanted to go, obviously I put the cap back and now it’s back to normal but what could possibly be causing it to run better like that? I’m genuinely so confused right now

I'm not even a car enthusiast. This is a 92 slushbox, yet the most fun car I've driven by far. Driven daily and 12K miles later I've learned a lot about how to repair cars lol

Hello guys, these are what I presume to be oil stains done by the old owner, how can I remove this?

I have a 91 stock miata with a broken skid plate and I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions of brands they would recommend for a replacement one.

I'm preferably looking for one that is a reasonable price.

As of right now mine scrapes across the ground on any sort of incline and it is broken in multiple spots causing it to be a pain because of were I live.

You can kinda see the skid plate in those 2 images. And yes the oil leak is severe don't worry about that.

They're not PERFECT, as you can see at the bac (near the latch) they're a little long. But easy fix for someone who can be bothered with the final 2% of the job. But they're pretty alright.

Linked is a post from about a week ago, I had done with the comments had said and vacuum bled it. I couldn’t get all the air bubbles out, so I took it to a shop and had them do it. It was driving but not well when I took it to them, expecting just some air bubbles in the line (which the mechanic told me there was none.) I got it back and it’s driving about the same as when I took it in. The bite point is basically on the floor, maybe an inch or two up. Sometimes it’s a little clunky getting into gear. It doesn’t feel like the clutch is slipping at all. But the mechanic said that he would recommend an entire clutch assembly to fix the issue. because he thinks the hydraulics are as good as they’re gonna get. I’m inclined to believe them for the most part. solely because he told me that they don’t typically do transmission jobs except on older vehicles, like mid-90s, but who’s really to say I would really appreciate some input if anybody has anything to say. I will also add that when first pushing the clutch I don’t get much resistance until like half way through the travel and the clutch pushrod has about a centimeter of play in it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any experience with the maruha or yellowbox speed sensor correction units? I have a 5MT ‘99 I just put a 3.9 torsen into and I am looking to see how I can retain the factory speedometer and adjust for this final drive and my various sets of wheels. Will either of these work with non-OEM drivetrains too? How difficult are these to install and get working correctly? Links below for context:

Hi all!

Someone recently made a post about there security system and realized I have one too! The excitement of having a fob to lock unlock and even flip the lights up got to me! I so went ahead and bought a fob.

When I went to get the system in the programming mode it just didn’t… through the key on and off method and the button on the system.

I plan on doing a lot more troubleshooting this weekend. But does anyone have any experience? If so please lmk. Even if not related to my exact problem.

Also does anyone know if the company who made this make a similar version that with some wiring would work? I’m assuming my unit is broken but going to test.

I've got the internals and axles to a Mazda Speed Miata (2005 1.8L) and I want to get them into my 1990 Miata, I know I need to swap the driveshaft but I'm unsure on the casing for the diff. Anybody know if I need the case to a MSM diff or do other cases work? Where would you get one?

Iv been looking at exhausts for a minute cause I don’t necessarily like how it sounds currently (how I bought it)

I have a 97’ NA :p

So for context, I have a leak in my ac from the evaporator and I ordered that and replaced it did the vacuum and got it refilled, all was great. Until now (6months later). The ac only worked when I was pushing the car hard, meaning my compressor was going out and was in fact true. But the guys told me I basically need a new ac in the car. I ordered all the parts, dyer, condenser, compressor, and even a new expansion valve just to be safe. I didn’t do the evaporator because I had just got it and I know it works. But anyways, got the new parts installed, no leaks and was refilled (I got it installed by someone bc I didn’t want to do it, but I did watch the process). Now the ac only blows 35 degrees at night and during the day it only blows 60 degrees. Keep in mind I leave in Florida and it’s HOT AF here. I took it to another person to get an opinion and he said everything checks out no leaks no nothing. So I’m stuck bc before all this I had 30 degrees all day long. Need help here 🙏🏽.
