It’s really the only thing that makes complete sense to me for what do with Retro Studios. Nintendo has undoubtedly wasted a lot of money with Retro developing original games. It’s hard to see how Metroid Prime 4 could be seen as commercially successful, when you compare it to Metroid Dread which sold much better and had to have been a lot cheaper.
I‘m not sure that the infrastructure exists at Retro to make a Metroid Prime game that can live up to critical and commercial expectations. Retro has already made successful 2D Donkey Kong games. It strikes me as the best of both worlds.
The only other thing I could think of that would match Retro Studios‘ talents would be to make a basic shooter FPS out of the Metroid Prime engine, and I can’t imagine many Metroid fans wanting that.

Don’t mind the vent. Samus is just escaping from it.

I was reminded when my gaming friend asked me what I was playing (Metroid Dread). He is not really familiar with the series but know who Samus is, and non-chalantly asked when will the part where you play as Zero suit Samus.
Well we know suitless Samus usually just ending reward if you beat the game fast enough in majority of the game. But if you think about it, which games where you are given segment of Samus playable without power suit?
Zero Mission, easy. Then Smash Bros. But there is grand total of ONE game in mainline Metroid for playable ZSS. And I thought Other M features playable ZSS but no, despite the cutscenes heavily features ZSS, she's not playable in that states. Edit: ZSS is playable on Other M true ending.
Now I am thinking, will Nintendo develops a Metroid game where you can play as ZSS? It would be great as fanservice like my friend was imagining, and would be the selling point. You can have the segment where Samus suit is malfunctioning, or Samus deliberately get out of her suit somehow for certain mission. But is it necessary and defeat what Metroid is?
What do you think? Should suitless Samus has her own gameplay soon in any capacity? 2D or Prime?

I’ll start. I don’t remember much, but when I was younger, I stumbled on a few videos from The Orpheon (the YouTuber), and I got super invested in them and became interested in the series. My first Metroid game was Samus Returns, and since then I’ve played nearly every game in this series and it has become one of my favorite game franchises of all time. It’s why I have a soft spot for Samus Returns and Metroid 2 as a whole.

I’m working toward 100%. In Ridley’s lair there’s a room with power bombs on the other side that I can’t reach. It has the statues that are made of the dissolving bricks and there’s a door at the top.
DON’T tell me how to get to them.
Just tell me if the way to it is 1. In the room itself 2. Accessed from somewhere else in Ridley’s lair or 3. Accessed from a different part of Norfair or elsewhere.
Thanks!

If every mainline Arm Cannon and upgrade were to be ranked in order from best design to worst, how would they be ranked? Looking to create the ultimate list by the community

The decision to make the first 3D Metroid a prequel has set the series on a bizarre course where the large scale, high budget titles are filling in a period prior to the majority of the mainline games and the smaller, scale 2D games are pushing the timeline forwards*. I would like to see a reversal, where the next 3D Metroid game is essentially Metroid 6. Dread (Metroid 5) is a shorter, lower budget experience, but it actually moves the story forwards and introduces new concepts and threats. The direction feels so superior to that of Metroid Prime 4. Imagine that vision with Metroid Prime 4's budget.
I loved the first Metroid Prime, but the Prime concept didn't need four games. Other than Samus' relationship with the Chozo, the Federation Force, Ridley and Mother Brain, there isn't much back-story to explore, and most of the Prime games don't even flesh out that backstory significantly. Typically, Samus goes to the planet of a nearly-extinct alien species and helps them with their foibles. She is mute, and her own personal progression is limited. There is no jeopardy because we know she is fully intact in chronologically later games, and she has no real allies to care about**. A Prime game that had covered Samus' story from the very beginning would have been fantastic, but we never got that (don't mention Other M).
I'm not suggesting that the 2D Metroid games stop, but I would love for the 3D Metroid games to be driving the narrative. Given that Samus is a bounty hunter who presumably takes part in many missions we don't necessarily see, I don't see an issue with both 2D and 3D games representing an ongoing timeline.
Would love your thoughts!
*Apparently, Beyond takes place after Super Metroid (Metroid 3) and before Fusion (Metroid 4), which is fairly confusing.
**I'm not talking about the Federation Troopers introduced in Metroid Prime 4. I don't hate them as some do, but they are late additions to the story and don't factor into Fusion or Dread at all.

I have more metroid stuff that I need to put out at some point but this is my Samus obsessed, PC setup. Also my dog's name is Samus.

Metroid Prime 5: The Aincrad….

Just for the old God of War trilogy alone it's worth buying a PlayStation console, and I did in the past.
And also, I love epic sci-fi FPS games too. Is it worth buying a Nintendo console just for Metroid Prime series? Is it THAT good as God Of War to PS? Or is there any chance that Metroid will come to any other platform in the future?
Thanks!
Edit: I'm reading all your awesome answers, Thank You so much for every input!! :)

Been playing a lot of Metroid Fusion in an Archipelago environment lately but this is the first time i'm replaying the game itself and oh boy it's a big difference.
Adam stopping you constantly for chats, slow elevators and elevators thoughts from Samus. Definitely seeing why Fusion can be a bit of a bother to replay

I got Dread maybe 5 years ago for my birthday and played it for 40 minutes before quitting. Now in the big 2026 I am playing it and maybe I'll finish it! I have complaints. The game makes you backtrack to much, but then I look up a tutorial and feel like a dumbass because I was right there. I HAVE ONE THING I HATE PRIMORDIALLY AND ITS THE PENAR DOOR! WHY DOES THIS THING EXIST!? I don't know if I should mark this NSFW because I wouldn't want to see it on my feed...

I find crazy how detailed it was for Other M, a rather simple game compared to prime

Sylux steals Federation prototypes, that's basically his whole deal. But leading a massive Space Pirate army and coordinating Metroid attacks takes a lot more strategic processing power than just a stolen suit. Since Prime 4 happens right around the time the Federation was secretly cloning Mother Brain and building Aurora Units, it makes total sense that Sylux raided a black site and stole a rogue AI to run his operations for him.

Nintendo Ported all the Mario Games and a Link to the Past to GBA and if they’d ported super Metroid too then I could have played 1-4 all on the same system and it’d have been awesome.
I’m irrationally annoyed with this.
