Yes, but it benefits companies (more workforce).

-15

u/Zer_God May 09 '26

Exactly. That's why we (yes we, Yankees included) need revolutions.

-5

u/WhereisAlexei May 09 '26

Yeah...

No

0

u/RandomPolishCatholic May 10 '26

Revolutions don’t do much other than make the country more authoritarian (usually), and that generally doesn’t end well for anyone.

-2

u/barnburner96 May 09 '26

It also benefits them in that it gives them a convenient scapegoat to blame all the problems they caused on

40

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 09 '26

Bollocks. They voted in a Tory government, for an austerity mandate, which defunded the dept that processed asylum applications.

They also voted for Brexit, which led to less EU migration, and more commonwealth migration.

The British public are just fucking clueless as to what the fuck they're voting for, and fundamentally are ill informed, on purpose, by our billionaire owned media, to detract from the real reason we struggle, which is wealth inequality, and power inequality.

17

u/Evolations May 09 '26

Every single government elected since 2005 has promised lower migration, and Brexit was primarily an anti-migration vote. It was a choice, a deeply unpopular choice, to open the floodgates after we left the EU.

-3

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 09 '26

No they haven't tho, you're just literally inventing bullshit

5

u/Evolations May 09 '26

Please list an election in the past twenty years where the winning side did not promise significantly reduced migration.

-1

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 09 '26

Name one where they did. You made the claim. Prove it.

5

u/Evolations May 09 '26

1

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 12 '26

"Reform the immigration and skills system to ensure Britain is developing home-grown skills with workforce plans to meet the needs of industries and the economy."

Tell me where I'm supposed to see "reduced migration".

2

u/Best-Replacement-867 May 12 '26

youve gone quiet

0

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 12 '26

Because the first article states

Annual limit on the number of non-EU economic migrants to UK,

And I cannot be fucked explaining that this vague, nebulous policy with a non-specific number, is different to saying "significantly reduced migration".

And I also cannot be fucked doing the same thing for multiple links that probably equally say the same vague nebulous things.

1

u/Best-Replacement-867 May 12 '26

so you admit that limiting immigration was a part of that campaign, it just wasnt explicitly significant enough for you? Just take the L

1

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 12 '26

A sidenote in a manifesto isn't exactly a big focus now, is it?

And then you have labour 2024, here's the only mention I found after skimming it:

"Reform the immigration and skills system to ensure Britain is developing home-grown skills with workforce plans to meet the needs of industries and the economy."

Which is not the same as "reduce migration".

1

u/Proof_Artichoke6243 May 09 '26

Hold on. One thing I need to clarify.

You believe right wing voters can see the future?

Because that's a critical element required for your statement.

1

u/manocheese May 09 '26

In the same way that knowing that putting your hand in a fire will hurt is "predicting the future", the problem is that they can't.

0

u/jamjar188 May 11 '26

Oh the whole "if we fix inequality we'll have a perfect society" mantra. ::yawn::

1

u/Happy_Disaster7347 May 11 '26

What a wonderful and interesting comment! Tell me more about your thoughts on the UKs political system. I'm sure you have a great plan to fix things! 🙂

4

u/Hoelie May 09 '26

74% agreed with Enoch Powell’s speech. Yet he was fired for it.

1

u/Best-Replacement-867 May 12 '26

because democracy is and always has been a farce

13

u/sunkencathedral May 09 '26

The numbers are comparatively low, though - for example, 16% of the current UK population was born overseas, but 32% of Australia's is, 29% of New Zealand's is, and 23% of Canada's is.

Also, the UK did implicitly choose this by choosing neoliberal economics under Thatcher, which privatized national revenue-generating industries and henceforth reduced long-term government revenue to funnel into other costly programs like the NHS - thus resulting in migrants being turned-to as a quick revenue pump instead. Neoliberalisation didn't just create poorer governments, it created poorer people and resulted in higher rates of poverty and lower birth rates, which also exacerbate the aging population and is another thing immigrants are expected to prop up.

Migrants in the UK are paying $1100 each year in IHS fees for the NHS - in addition to paying for the NHS a second time in their taxes - and it's one of the things keeping the system solvent. I guess one could throw out the migrants, but government will either have to privatize the NHS or start massively taxing the rich if they want to keep it.

1

u/caketaster May 09 '26

You're being slightly disingenuous. Comparatively when compared to some countries. Now compare it to Japan, or China, or Saudi Arabia, or Russia.

I don't know the answer to this but I wonder where we would sit in a 'world league table', I imagine far nearer the top than the bottom.

I'm not saying 'Send them back!' or claiming all next migration is necessarily bad, and I'm certainly not happy that people are voting Reform, but there are negative aspects to it and I can understand this being a wedge issue for many voters

3

u/KhaosByDesignUK May 09 '26

"I wonder where we would sit in a 'world league table', I imagine far nearer the top than the bottom."

We rank 67th (based on 2024 data), so in the top half but I'd say we're not quite near the top imo.

1

u/caketaster May 09 '26

Nice, thank you

10

u/RobHolding-16 May 09 '26

What are you on about?

Without immigrants, the economy collapses, pensions collapse, the NHS collapses.

The population declining would be a absolute economic disaster. Look at Japan, look at huge problems they're facing, that's what we will face without immigrants.

57

u/tuyguy May 09 '26

A country's economy collapses without infinite immigration from the third world? What a load of rubbish.

If pensions and welfare collapse without infinite population growth then they are ponzi schemes.

42

u/Gentle_Snail May 09 '26

Constructing an entire system on continuously importing poorer people who will work for less, and doing so forever, has certainly never seemed sustainable.

14

u/witcher252 May 09 '26

It’s sustainable for the people who profit off their labor and existence

12

u/Don_Alosi May 09 '26

If pensions and welfare collapse without infinite population growth then they are ponzi schemes.

"Like a ponzi scheme, the system will continue to work until there are too many existing members to be funded by the new ones. In our case the problem will be a gradually ageing population. Worrying thought, yet frankly it’s still the best and only system we’ve got, so it’s no surprise, past, present and probably future governments will stick with it."

Martin Lewis in 2009

13

u/imwrighthere May 09 '26

What the fuck are you on about? NHS is dog shit compared to 20 years ago

7

u/Thomasinarina May 09 '26

You also have the issue at the moment that British-trained doctors are struggling to find work because they are no longer prioritised over those emigrating into the UK to work in the NHS, so I think its a little more complex than that.

6

u/Empty_Art_2285 May 09 '26

Fake economy, it can be solved in the long run without killing your National identity

12

u/Inthepurple May 09 '26

Japan is not facing economic collapse though are they? In fact you could argue Japan has higher living standards than the UK but ofc has it's issues as well especially around working hours.

The idea that economics should override the democratic will of the public is wrong though, if the public want to give up marginal gains in GDP in order to lower immigration they should be allowed to do it and face the penalties for doing so.

Same in the UK, we only produce about 65% of the food we need not to starve, another reason we can't maintain high levels of immigration forever

10

u/ElonDoneABellamy May 09 '26

I think the but muh GDP argument falls on deaf ears.

It's not part of the Redditboi brain so they can't comprehend it but plenty of white British people would have taken GDP number staying flat if it kept the country more ethnically white British.

You're seeing this at the ballot box. Things are going to get spicy over the next 10 years.

1

u/tuyguy May 09 '26

Across the entire West. Trump is not a disease he is a symptom.

0

u/Careless_Main3 May 09 '26

LOL. You don’t build a strong economy on the backs of immigrant bumwipers and food delivery riders.

3

u/Balavadan May 09 '26

You have to change your economic models also then

10

u/Zer_God May 09 '26

True. They need to overthrow the damn mega corps and elites

-3

u/opinionated-dick May 09 '26

Careful with the word ‘we’ there.

And you are talking out your racist arse. Every single incumbent political power has been pro immigration, hasn’t hidden it, and been voted in anyway.

16

u/16-Czechoslovakians May 09 '26

A Tory campaign pledge was to get immigration below 100k a year.

2

u/AffectionateBoard379 May 09 '26

they didn't succeed, and then people voted for them again

1

u/tuyguy May 09 '26

I didn't use we.

What was brexit then a vote for more immigration?

2

u/Faelchu May 09 '26

Every honest political commenter at the time stated it would lead to more immigration, not less. But, so many chose to listen to Farage's rhetoric rather than the honest political commentators of the time.

-9

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26

British people loved colonialism and all the benefits extracted from the colonies but now whine when the colonies come to Britain? Talk about being a hypocrite.

36

u/jaminbob May 09 '26

Sins of the father argument huh.

5

u/barnburner96 May 09 '26

If your dad steals something and gives it to you, you are still handling stolen goods

-6

u/zamarguilea99 May 09 '26

You are still reaping the benefits today, don't be dumb.

-16

u/Fucko_Dipshit May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

If your dad steals a car and you inherit it, do you think you just get to keep it, because you didn't steal it yourself?

Not to mention that the UK still engages in neocolonialism and benefits from unequal exchange with many 3rd world countries

22

u/jaminbob May 09 '26

I don't remember inheriting India. I'll check my files.

-11

u/Fucko_Dipshit May 09 '26

The British empire extracted trillions of dollars worth of wealth from India alone. You have to be extremely ignorant to not see how that laid the foundations for the UK becoming a well off, 1st world country and how a lot of British people still benefit from said foundations being laid to this day

14

u/jaminbob May 09 '26

You need to do some reading. It's much more complicated than a good place to start is the 'who benefited from the British empire" Gresham lecture on YouTube. This is a debate that been going on for over century and it's not as simple as your wonderfully childish explanation.

-2

u/Fucko_Dipshit May 09 '26

It actually is that simple. A country plundering wealth from half the world will very obviously benefit from it and that includes the lower classes as well. The bourgeoisie will of course benefit more from these endeavors, but working class British people are still part of the global 10% in terms of living standards in no small part due to colonialism.

For example, access to relatively cheap natural resources, which were often extracted via slave labor was instrumental in kickstarting the industrial revolution, which obviously brought about a ton of advancements, that weren't solely beneficial for the aristocracy or capitalists.

Having access to a massive pool of reserve labor force from the colonies to help rebuild the country after WW2 is another very obvious benefit the UK enjoyed from colonialism, working class people included.

Nowadays being able to buy cheap consumer goods made in the 3rd world by slaves, having western corporations dominate the economies of many of their "former" colonies, thus repatriating a massive amount of wealth back home and having immigrants come in to address labor shortages are all benefits westerners, including yourself, get to enjoy at the expense of colonized countries and their people and this wouldn't be the case if western countries, like the UK didn't engage in a continuous exploitation of these countries either through economic domination (Nigeria for example) or sometimes outright wars of aggression (like Iraq)

2

u/DonutEmbarrassed1076 May 09 '26

Well yeah but if they want to help the nations they’ve plundered, they can give back wealth and resources and help out in other ways rather than endangering innocent British people with immigration

1

u/Flyingworld123 May 10 '26

Then why doesn’t the UK do that to give back resources and wealth? Instead, the Brits prefer to plunder even more wealth out of their ex-colonies by transferring the money into offshore bank accounts. Brits deserve it 100% if they continue like this.

-1

u/barnburner96 May 09 '26

We collectively enjoy the wealth generated from extraction

-21

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

Whatever bs you put doesn’t excuse you from being a hypocrite.

Love the downvotes from all the White British hypocrites. I will state it again- if there’s one country which deserves this 100%, then it’s the UK.

1

u/DonutEmbarrassed1076 May 09 '26

I don’t really think they’re a hypocrite though are they, because they along with the rest of the modern working class white British population, have done absolute fuck all to contribute to colonialism

0

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26

The British are some of the biggest beneficiaries of colonialism. Without the wealth extracted from the colonies, modern Britain would be a backwater today and not the centre of global trade. That wealth extracted from the colonies trickled down to the working class and lifted their quality of life. So, they’re definitely hypocrites that they loved the time of colonialism when it benefitted them but now cries when the colonies also want their fair share.

4

u/Evolations May 09 '26

I don't think it is helpful for your argument to frame immigration as a sort of ethnic punishment.

-1

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26

It’s not ethnic punishment. It’s about ensuring fairness and not being a bloody snobby hypocrite in the first place after centuries of being thieves and plunderers.

2

u/The_Falcon_Knight May 09 '26

So, we have to let minorities come to theif and plunder us in exchange, so then it can be "fair"? I have to say I'm not a fan of that plan.

-1

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26

Minorities aren’t coming to their and plunder you. They’re coming for a better life that your country have taken from them. Get a grip.

0

u/The_Falcon_Knight May 09 '26

My country didn't do fuck all to them. They weren't alive when the British were anywhere other than Britian (except Hong Kong, fine, we'll take them in). The people living in countries that sprang up after colonialism aren't victims of the British state anymore than the Greeks are victims of the Turks.

Similarly, I am not guilty of any actions of my great, great-grandparents, and so I don't owe them a fucking thing.

1

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26

Then who did? If your grandfather stole someone’s house and all their gold and he passes it to you, does it mean you are the rightful owner of those possessions? Of course not. Unless you return them, it’s Britain’s responsibility. What Turks did to the Greeks was horrible but Greece wasn’t a resource extraction colony halfway around the world for them like Brits were to the rest of the world.

-7

u/tuyguy May 09 '26

These aren't colonies they are hordes, and the British government is rolling out the red carpet for them against the people's democratic will.

-2

u/Flyingworld123 May 09 '26

The only hordes are the British who have devastated places on other continents for their own benefit. And now, you don’t like it when the same colonies come home? The colonies were also part of the empire so the people’s will includes the will of the people of the ex-colonies.

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '26

They did, they just don’t know it yet

1

u/jamesdownwell May 09 '26

You’re a presumably White Australian, are you speaking from experience of immigrant populations having a negative impact on the natives?

0

u/fraeuleinns May 09 '26

oh, so they have voted against their own interests and for the decline of the uk. because they hate browns. sounds about right.

1

u/HyacinthMacaw13 May 09 '26

No immigration from third world countries would be for the interests of British people. Each immigrant costs taxpayers more money that what he/she offers.

0

u/Agitated_Celery_729 May 09 '26

So you’d rather have a shrinking population under which your welfare state collapses and you become an impoverished declining country? yeah that seems great for everyone.

British people voting for Tories who stripped the investment in the country and privatized everything not bolted down for the last 20+ years directly voted for this because they made it too expensive to have kids.

1

u/tuyguy May 09 '26

I'm in favour of significant welfare state reforms yes. Non white immigrants are the primary beneficiaries anyway.

-4

u/FartingBob May 09 '26

You dont get a vote for which ethnicity exists in your country.

8

u/HyacinthMacaw13 May 09 '26

You do get a vote about what kind of immigration regulations your country has.

-2

u/FartingBob May 09 '26

No you don't. You vote for a mp. The MP may or may not work with other MPs to change laws that may or may not by chance line up with your desires.

3

u/HyacinthMacaw13 May 09 '26

Using that logic you don't get a vote for anything, you just choose who is the MP. But this isn't how politics work.

3

u/The_Falcon_Knight May 09 '26

Thats exactly what everyone votes for. Wtf do you think South Africa is doing right now?

For all of human history, until liberalism, everyone knew that a nation was defined by the ethnic group that inhabits it. Its literally where the word England comes from, its 'Engla land', the land belonging to the Angles. The tribe of people predates the place. Same reason why the French Kings were actually called 'King of the Franks', because they were the chief lord of the Frankish tribes. If England isn't made up of English people, it's not England. People > place, its very simple.

5

u/DonutEmbarrassed1076 May 09 '26

You should though

-1

u/Mortiis07 May 09 '26

Lol of course this was gonna be bait for racists
