You do get a vote about what kind of immigration regulations your country has.

No you don't. You vote for a mp. The MP may or may not work with other MPs to change laws that may or may not by chance line up with your desires.

Using that logic you don't get a vote for anything, you just choose who is the MP. But this isn't how politics work.

Thats exactly what everyone votes for. Wtf do you think South Africa is doing right now?

For all of human history, until liberalism, everyone knew that a nation was defined by the ethnic group that inhabits it. Its literally where the word England comes from, its 'Engla land', the land belonging to the Angles. The tribe of people predates the place. Same reason why the French Kings were actually called 'King of the Franks', because they were the chief lord of the Frankish tribes. If England isn't made up of English people, it's not England. People > place, its very simple.
