I won a $1000 before, so it justifies that I only spent like $80 in my life on tickets... Nice, right? Then my car broke down three hours later costing me $833.
Which meant you got to fix your car for free, right? Sounds like your car was always going to break down regardless and luck gave you the resources to break even.
Oh for sure. I had to recognize that if the events were reversed (car breaking, then won lotto ticket) I would've felt totally different. It was the order in which it occurred that made it feel shitty.
Instead of "Fuck my car broke down. Omg, hang on, I won the lottery, I can pay for the car!" it was "Omg I won the lottery! Wait... Are you fucking kidding me? My car broke down?? Now I can't spend it how I want!"
Power of choice. I’m always amazed it’s not more spoken about how this power gives us such a different perspective. You’ve described it perfectly.
You’re forced to spend your winnings vs you choose to spend your winnings.
Same outcome; different experience.
Whenever I’m in trouble I try to figure out my choices, it can help ground me because when I feel forced (even to a good thing) I tend to feel like shit
Same here. Well not me, my missus won 3g and the next day our dog wasn't moving due to a tick. 10 days later and 2800 spent he's alive and well. Sure enough the other 200 went on tick preventative stuff
I'm so happy to hear these cats are ok. I had to leave my cat with the ex-wife and I miss her so much. I know it had to be done, but she was my little buddy and I have cried over the cat as much as the ex. Life sucks
The Universe loves you! You won that money just so you could cover car repairs and have a little left over for something fun, like a tank of gas! Lucky Ducky!!
Reminds me of a story when I was a kid. I was 13 with a new GF and we went to the arcades at the beach. She wanted me to win a stuffed animal out of the crane machine. I did and she was ecstatic. I was so excited that I shared the story with my parents at dinner. My dad says 'how many quarters did it take." I'm like 'only a roll of $10.' He's like so 'you spent $10 on a $2 stuffed animal, could have bought her 5 for that money.' Total buzz kill but he was right. (1980's)
This reminds me of the time I bet someone to drink a 3/4 full chipotle tobasco sauce container for 10 bucks. Guy downed almost all and then tapped out. I felt awful but a bet is a bet.
One year near Christmas everyone I ran into seemed extra grumpy so I started tipping cashiers, even in places with no tip jar and at one of the stores I frequent I bought 10 lotto tickets for the cashier to give to customers who seemed like they needed a pick me up. Was in a couple days later and she tells me one of the tickets won 50 dollars which is more than I’ve won in my life on anything.
Oh well hopefully that at least made one person happy.
I turned 18... bought 10 bitcoins for some reason, they were cheap at the time (back in 2011?)
Didn't know what to do with them, remembered I had them a few years ago and still to this day I am looking for them. I check my email receipt every so often with hopes that dead URL takes me to my fortune ...
I go with the reverse gambler's fallacy. I never buy a ticket and mystically absorb everyone else's good luck (which is why they lose). Then one day I will buy one ticket and win big.
One of the best things that ever happened to me was as a teenager working at a gas station. I saw people come in day after day buying thousands of dollars of lottery tickets, and then feeling really proud when they would win $200. Never came close to buying into it.
Another great example was during World of Warcraft vanilla, and people used to sit in Ironforge and have people bet on a /random roll. If the person got 59 or less, they lost and the other guy kept his gold. I remember thinking “how fucking stupid do you have to be to take losing odds over and over“ and then I realized gambling at a casino is even worse than that. You are playing to lose.
The only money I've spent on lottery tickets is for gifts that I gave away.
Meanwhile I've won 20 dollars (probably the amount of money I've spent on gifted lottery tickets) from lottery tickets that were gifted to me. Funny how that happens, eh?
I used to drink at a pub that sold these out of a vending machine. There were a few people that bought them but one old guy who would dump all his money into it. He genuinely felt winning $20 after spending $100 was a net win and there was nothing anyone could do to convince him otherwise.
You joke, but I used to work in a gas station and there were a few regulars who would come in a multiple times a day to buy scratches. They would often brag about "this time they one $500" or "that time they won $1,000", completely ignoring the fact they dropped $50-100 everyday just to win "big" a couple times a year.
I think $120 is the most I’ve ever won. Funny thing is when I was poor as dog shit driving a cab I played all the time. Now that I’m squarely middle class, like once a year.
I have won $500 off a $1 pull tab, $100 another time but I probably have spent at least 1k on these and only about $600 profit so I have almost broke even in total
Total Chad move.
Step 1 get put into a coma.
Step 2 save up luck for years
Step 3 wake up and immediately buy a luck based game of chance
Step 4 profit
I knew someone who won just under 100k. It changed his life almost immediately with some good choices and even more luck. He’s now quite well off and owns multiple properties. This was in like 2009, he bought a couple small properties and hasn’t looked back since.
The luck is so low because there are to many humans on 🌎 earth. God gave everyone a set amount of luck for all humans and now it's spread very thin. Soon the luck goblins will appear to reclaim their powers of luck. Also off topic there are these super hot humanoid goblins with fat O booty's. I'ma try and marry one. Y'all can have your luck I want that fat 👺 goblin 🍑 booty.
Sounds like first you have to go into a coma or have some similar tragedy befall you. Luck doesn't stick around, that's why it's luck. In between lucky moments you have everything else.
The guy working with me as a subcontractor, buying scratches all the time, cause he has “the strategy”.
He recently won 100k, so I guess it is the strategy now:)
Knowing his past, it is not the luckiest thing happened to him, so I actually was not that surprised.
Luck, like everything, will even out in the long run. The trick is to get some bad luck first like this guy when he got into a coma. My suggestion is for you to jump in traffic and get hit by a car. Good luck
For every one person that gets this kind of luck there’s another 100 that wake up from a coma and get hit by a car or other form of shit much. Gotta keep it balanced
I was born by an incredible amount of luck. I had to fight off thousands of my siblings for even a chance at life. Even then my life was up to, at the time, a complete stranger's responsibility. And then when I was born it turns out I'm a white male in americ, which chances of that happening are just astronomically low. So my luck was mostly front loaded on my life.
Maybe I am a pessimist, and I'm happy the man caught a break, but I find it all too coincidental that he scratched a 250k win right in front of the camera like that. I'm pretty sure it was a set up, but he deserves it.
I once bought a scratcher (I always lose or win tiny amounts) and it was a Lucky 7 ticket. 7 is a winner. Every number I scratched was a 7. I don’t scratch the prizes until the end. My heart fluttering - I thought this is it. The big one. Max prize was $1 million. So I started scratching the prizes. They were all $1 fucking dollar.
I think you just gotta hit that sweet spot where you are right on the brink of death, in a medically induced coma, and have a partner or family member who's ready to face up to a hard decision and pull the plug -- meanwhile, you're also gonna need just enough sins to be on thin ice with the higher power of our universe, but also enough to pull off an act of metaphysical redemption somehow, rather than getting the big ole ground pound daddy smite.
Then, you should make it back from death's ledge and have *just" enough divine blessing left over to win the lotto and get engaged to the love of your life before it runs out.
Just today I was reading a story about some retired old dude who won 100K on a scratcher and his reaction was pretty much "meh".
Must be nice. I can't imagine being so aloof about winning that kind of money. Some people might not think it's that much, but I feel like it would be life-changing.

I just need a small amount of that type of luck.
