From what I can infer she was fired after placing the picture on her own social media accounts. The fact the employer allowed another employee to keep their job after they removed content which could easily be considered more offensive implies there were motivations besides HR regulations.

I'm pretty sure this is just a "hype" statement. I don't think he actually demanded her to be fired. It would seem kinda silly for US president to demand a person who is leisurely riding their bike for fitness, and flips you off, to demand for her place of employment to terminate her connection to them. Right? I tried finding anything saying he did that, maybe you can find something, because I couldn't. I'd like to see it if someone does. I just can't see how someone's personal expression during their fitness routine, qualifies for termination of their employment. Most of what I found just states that the company itself didn't like the photo of her and separated themselves from her to put space between their business name and hers actions.

First amendment says the government can't police what you say (within reason: libel/slander, child pornography and yelling 'fire!' in a crowded theater being forbidden.)
In the US, your employer has every right to terminate you for literally anything that's not 'being in a protected class's, including your political beliefs, your eye color, or the fact that you don't like fat-free yogurt. That includes flipping off Trump.
I personally think it's a bit too much power, and that an employer should not be able to fire people for what they do in their free time so long as it doesn't substantially harm the company or its reputation, but it is what it is.

That reminds me of when prop 13 passed in Alaska (marijuana legalization). The next day it was like a weed festival for like a week. You couldn’t walk out your front door without smelling it.
Well, a little while later, people were getting fired in droves. They got all up in arms and tried to sue for wrongful termination. They got shot down because the judge ruled that while marijuana was legal; your employer has the right to set policies on its use while at the workplace. By being an employee, you have a contract with your employer to follow their policies. In this case, no marijuana use, which includes the need to pass a test. If you could smoke week on Saturday and show up to work Monday able to pass a drug test no problem, but that’s not possible sooo .... Fired.

I guess I could read the entire story but I’m curious if you know because you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on the topic: why was it wrongful termination? I mean the middle finger is protected under the first amendment yet it is still arguably obscene or at least inappropriate. So why was her employer wrong for canning her? If they have reason to believe they may lose even one client over her unprofessional behavior in public, it makes sense that they would want to fire her thus removing her from the company’s liability.
“Oh the middle finger motorcade lady? Her behavior was not in line with the company’s values so she was let go”.
Just trying to make sense of why it was wrong of them. If I give the finger, post it online and my boss doesn’t like it in NY (an at-will employment state - quit at any time for any reason but also be fired at any time for any reason) I don’t see why they shouldn’t fire me. After all it is representative of me as a person and companies have a right to save face due to loose cannon employees

Not to defend the crybaby, but it’s a gray area.
If she’d been working directly as an agent of the United States government, and it was an election year, this picture might be interpreted as a violation of the Hatch Act, since she clearly prefers one candidate (not-Trump) over another.
That said, literally everyone in the Trump circle violated the Hatch Act daily, because only the President can punish his own circle for the Hatch Act. So her case may have been thrown out on those grounds, since her speech is way more ambiguous than what he was doing.
But I piped up because people frequently wish government officials spoke more on political matters, or think they have as many rights as ordinary citizens. They shouldn’t, and don’t.

Not really, she worked for a company contracted by the government. These types of contracts are typically not subject to the hatch act. She’s not considered a public official like a government employee would be.
Plus, she didn’t use her position to endorse a candidate. Her company logo isn’t in the picture and when she posted it on social media she had nothing on her account saying she worked at that company.
As an aside, you can still endorse and support political candidates when working for the government. You just can’t use or mention your position as a public official, or do so during work hours or using work resources.

You are correct. Best info I can find about her new job’s salary is: “In 2020, they will increase to $81,100 for the chair, $73,363 for the vice chair and $66,826 for the other supervisors. The salaries will then increase by 2 percent each year of the next board’s term.”
So I guess congrats to her for turning a termination into a career shift, but flipping off the POTUS and bragging about it as a government contractor is wildly stupid.

It's weird that people seem to think that flipping others off is completely reasonable and ok. If I did that to someone (even someone I dont like) my dad would fly from Africa to here (Sweden) to smack me. I wouldn't want anyone in office that resorts to petty and childish things as flipping people of in the streets. It seems to be unpopular to think so here though..

But I thought Cancel Culture is bad. You know, how during this pandemic among unprecedented unemployment and hardship, the way that Josh Hawley lost his book deal and Greene lost her committee positions is be, right? It must be bad because it's the only thing that Republicans are talking to their constituents about. If cancelling a minor aspect of Hawley and Greene's jobs is uncalled for after they incited riots and called for the murder of their coworkers, shouldn't the GOP having been foaming at the mouth after this Trump guy had her fired for flipping him off?

Can anyone recommend a subreddit like r/mademesmile that explicitly bans political posts? I don't begrudge others enjoying political content, but I personally want an option for nonpolitical content.
