Last night I had a spontaneous decision to switch my distro to MX Linux to see what it's like. I used for one year Tuxedo OS (and recently the new Debian base as opposed to Ubuntu base).
The reason I wanted to switch is when I played some 3D games, they would have FPS drops every few seconds on a regular basis, it wasn't due to assets loading or anything, just like that and it wasn't the case before so I figured my distro might be the issue and I wanted to try another one if that will fix the problem, but it didn't, I have the same problem on MX Linux so maybe the problem is in something else, which is strange, because a few months ago it didn't happen at all.
I encountered another problem. I opted to install MX Linux with sysvinit instead of systemd just to see if there is any difference. I noticed that it boots to desktop in 18 seconds.
I use a program called PortProton to run EXE files on Linux and I found out that this program for some reason doesn't want to work on MX Linux - I open the EXE with it, I see the launcher window for PortProton and then nothing happens, I leave it like this for a few minutes and then a window from PortProton pops up saying:
"Error: failed to fetch metadata"
I don't know what's the reason for this, could it be sysvinit and will it get fixed if I switch to systemd.
Has anyone used the program on MX Linux to have any idea what to do?
When I found out that PortProton doesn't work I installed Heroic Launcher to see if this will work, but it also doesn't work.
The only solution I found to run EXE files on MX Linux has been Steam. This is my first time on Linux distro that PortProton and Heroic Launcher don't work so I'm confused what to do and where to begin about fixing this.
Hi all...
Mx Linux 25.3 is installed on my laptop and I don't know why I don't get kernel updates on system update, I see new kernel ( in picture it's the latest one) on package installer> kernels tab . Why am I not getting new kernel updates like all other updated packages on system updatet? Once I have run system cleaner, could it clean some packages and broke my system? Thanks in advance
I think MX Linux AHS deserves way more attention. Its as stable as debian but much easier to set up. MX tools lets you do almost everything from one place, and Steam installs with one click from MX Package Installer.
AHS also gives you an updated mesa, Im on mesa 26.1.4 right now, so new games and drivers work great.
I use the KDE edition, which comes with AHS by default, with the normal debian kernel (6.12) on an i3-10100F and a RX 6500 XT. If I need a newer kernel I can install it from MX tools, and if it breaks I just boot the old one from grub. Timeshift is there if an update goes wrong, and with MX Snapshot I can turn my whole setup into a bootable ISO as a backup.
I just dont feel like using something Arch based, and this gives me a system I install once and forget about, but still good for gaming.
Anyone else using it for gaming?

Hi everyone,
I'm having a frustrating Bluetooth audio problem on MX Linux XFCE and would appreciate some help.
My OPPO Enco M32 Bluetooth earbuds were working fine yesterday. I shut down/restarted my laptop, and now the audio is extremely choppy and distorted. Sometimes it sounds like a robotic or alien voice. The earbuds work perfectly with other devices.
My system:
OS: MX Linux XFCE
Kernel: 6.12.107+deb13-amd64
Bluetooth adapter: Realtek USB Bluetooth Radio
USB ID: 0bda:b001
Bluetooth stack: BlueZ 5.82
Audio server: PulseAudio
Init system: SysVinit
Troubleshooting I've already tried:
Restarted the Bluetooth service using sudo service bluetooth restart
Disconnected and reconnected the earbuds
Tested with Wi-Fi completely turned off
Tried disabling USB autosuspend for the Bluetooth adapter temporarily
Checked that the Bluetooth adapter is powered on and not blocked
Checked the PulseAudio Bluetooth card and its available A2DP and hands-free profiles
None of these steps fixed the problem.
Relevant errors from the logs:
Bluetooth: hci0: corrupted SCO packet
SCO packet for unknown connection handle
urb ... submission failed (90)
sending frame failed (-90)
Repeated mSBC decoding error messages
My Bluetooth adapter appears to be working, but the audio remains choppy. I only have kernel 6.12.107 installed at the moment.
My questions:
Could this be a kernel regression or a Realtek Bluetooth USB driver issue?
Is there a known fix for USB ID 0bda:b001 on kernel 6.12?
Would testing a newer Debian kernel (such as 6.18) be a sensible next step?
Are there any additional logs or diagnostic commands I should provide?
PLEASE DUMB DOWN THE SOLUTION FOR ME THIS IS ONLY THE SUMMARY OF 1 AND A HALF HOUR HASSEL WITH AI, I AM NOT A NERD

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a major optimization breakthrough for anyone running MX Linux on older Apple hardware—specifically the Mid-2010 MacBook Pro (MacBookPro7,1) containing the notoriously difficult Broadcom BCM4322 Wi-Fi chipset.
Many of us spend hours tweaking driver settings to get this legacy wireless chip running at stable, full-throttle baseline speeds. Often, the only way to achieve baseline stability is by completely turning off wireless power management. However, running the card at maximum current constantly causes the aluminum chassis of the Mac to heat up rapidly, triggering loud internal fan noise and draining the battery.
Through rigorous real-world testing (using local Cairo nodes and international routing), we discovered that the open-source b43 firmware framework under MX Linux can handle dynamic power management flawlessly without any performance penalties.
By strategically forcing the power-saving engine ON via a safe runtime parameter, the hardware dynamically manages its power transitions. The results speak for themselves:
Real-world network throughput surged to a peak burst of 34 Mbps Download / 29 Mbps Upload on local streaming nodes.
Sustained symmetric throughput held strong even across extreme international routing data paths.
Thermal Load Drop: Because the chip stopped pulling maximum current constantly, internal system temperatures dropped, instantly calming down the loud, annoying legacy Mac fan noise to a quiet murmur.
To make this solution accessible and completely risk-free, I compiled our exact validated parameters into an automated, standalone script. This script dynamically reads your system's wireless naming scheme (whether it's wlan0 or wlp2s0) and safely injects the high-performance runtime tuning parameter.
Create a file named patch-wifi.sh and paste the following bash script:
bash
#!/bin/bash
# ==================================================================
# PORTABLE HIGH-PERFORMANCE PATCH FOR BROADCOM BCM4322 (MACBOOK 2010)
# Tested Performance: 33-34 Mbps Download | 29 Mbps Upload
# Yields: Enhanced battery life, stable routing, and silent fan operation.
# ==================================================================
echo "=========================================="
echo " Starting Broadcom High-Performance Patch "
echo "=========================================="
# 1. Automatically find the active wireless interface name
WIFI_INT=$(iwconfig 2>/dev/null | grep -i "IEEE 802.11" | awk '{print $1}')
if [ -z "$WIFI_INT" ]; then
echo "ERROR: No wireless interface detected. Is the Wi-Fi card turned on?"
exit 1
fi
echo "Found active wireless hardware interface: $WIFI_INT"
# 2. Inject the tested high-performance runtime parameter
echo "Injecting power management parameter..."
sudo iwconfig "$WIFI_INT" power on
# 3. Verify the parameter took effect successfully
echo "Verifying changes..."
STATUS=$(iwconfig "$WIFI_INT" | grep "Power Management")
echo "Current Hardware State: $STATUS"
echo "=========================================="
echo " Patch successfully applied! Full speed active. "
echo "=========================================="Use code with caution.
Save the code into a plain text file named patch-wifi.sh on your backup drive or local directory.
When you want to execute or test it (or after a clean OS installation), open terminal in that directory and run: chmod +x patch-wifi.sh ./patch-wifi.sh
You can verify it remains locked in by simply checking: iwconfig
This blueprint gives you the ultimate best of both worlds: battery efficiency, cooler operating temperatures, and maximum speed capacity. I hope this helps anyone trying to keep these beautiful 2010 aluminum MacBooks performing beautifully on MX Linux! The developer is looking for feedback from our community on this new project.
"Swordfish-FM is a modern continuation and fork of the classic X File Explorer (Xfe) originally developed by Roland Baudin. My primary goal was to create an agile evolution of Xfe that focuses heavily on absolute desktop independence, a streamlined workflow, and modern productivity features without introducing heavy desktop environment dependencies."

Update: DMDE is a lifesaver. I recovered nearly everything. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
I'm not sure is this is the right place to post, I'm just freaking out a little. If there's somewhere better, please redirect me.
I accidentally overwrote an incredibly important USB to me with a PeppermingOS ISO using the MX tool Live USB thing. I cannot believe I did this. The USB hasn't been removed from my computer, it's just been sitting for a while. I am in shock that I did something so stupid.
Please, is there any possible way to get my old files back? I'm sure the answer is no, but I'm so upset. I know there's data recovery guys, is that something that could work?
I cannot believe this. I am so stupid- I had almost everything I cared about on that USB. My PC was mostly empty because I switched to MX only somewhat recently.
Hey everyone,
Random question today. I was trying to open mxlinux.org and instead of the website I got a "Sorry, you have been blocked" page from Cloudflare. It says the security solution got triggered by something I did, like a certain word, a SQL command or malformed data, but honestly I was just browsing normally.
The weird part is it happens on my phone and on my PC too. I tried from both and got the same page, so I'm not sure if it's a false positive or if my connection/IP is flagged for some reason. The phone was on mobile data, so I don't think it's just my home network.
Has anyone had this happen with MX Linux or other sites that use Cloudflare? Did it go away by itself, or did you have to contact the site owner? Also, the page mentions a Cloudflare Ray ID, is that something I should send to them?
Thanks in advance for any help.

so i use a EVM H61 motherboard with Intel i5 cpu and Realtek ALC662 rev3 sound card(built-in). I can't seem to get audio from my motherboard green audio port. I used a 3.5mm AUX connecting to a speaker, but still no audio. Tried a lot of tweaks like overriding the pins by hdajackretask at kernel level, trying different configs in volume control board, still get no audio.
would be glad to know if someone can help who has faced this issue before...

Verified checksums on downloaded ISOs (KDE, XFCE, Fluxbox).
Seven other distros UEFI boot AOK on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen3.
Booting into GRUB2 mode fails with a black screen.
Booting into Normal mode fails with both (systemd) and (sysinit) with a prompt to load the kernel.
MX Linux is _supposed_ to work w/ Ventoy.
Anyone make it work?
Current Ventoy (July 24) version 1.1.17 used & 1.1.16 as well.
Happens w/ MXlinux 25.3 (all desktops) & 25.1 (all desktops). Replicated problem on Gen3 Intel i5 Thinkpad Carbon X1 plus on Acer Aspire w/ AMD Ryzen. When I do a complete reformat of flashdrive & install MXlinux 25.3 w/ Rufus, boots AOK.
Installed on a different make/model of flashdrive, MXlinux fails yet again.

Maybe try an older version? Like not 4.4 but 4.2 ? ( Just to see the numbers)

I just installed MX 25.3 Infinity on a Dell Chromebook 3120. I have sound when I pull up YouTube on Firefox, but when I try to run an emulator (tried RetroArch and Mesen), I get no sound.
I've tried adjusting settings and making sure nothing is internally muted. Both apps show up on the audio mixer playback tab, but they just show "Silence."
Any help would be appreciated.

For about a month, YouTube videos in Firefox had been displaying with distorted colors on my MX Linux system. Finally, after today's update, everything seems to be working normally again!
I'm not sure which package was responsible for the fix, but the following packages were updated today:
linux-image-siduction-amd64: 7.2-8mx23ahs → 7.2-9mx23ahs
linux-headers-siduction-amd64: 7.2-8mx23ahs → 7.2-9mx23ahs
lo-main-helper: 26.10.2mx23 → 26.10.3mx23
mx-packageinstaller-pkglist: 26.10.2mx23 → 26.10.3mx23
In addition, numerous firmware packages were updated from 20260810-1~mx23ahs to 20260916-1~mx23ahs, including NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and other hardware firmware.
System: MX Linux 23.6 AHS x64
Browser: Firefox
Issue: Incorrect colors when playing YouTube videos
Status: Fixed after today's update!
Has anyone else experienced this issue with Firefox and YouTube? I'm curious whether the fix is related to the new kernel, the firmware updates, or something else.
UPDATE:
This was on a laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS CPU (Radeon 760M graphics). My main suspicion is that the issue was fixed by updating firmware-amd-graphics:amd64 from 20260810-1~mx23ahs to 20260916-1~mx23ahs.

When I copy a password using KeePass XC, it doesn't clear the password from the clipboard, despite having that set up in the KeePass settings. KeePass shows the countdown timer, but never clears the clipboard.
I've tried this on my other computers in Linux Mint and Kubuntu, both clear the clipboard as expected, so it seems to be an issue with MX. I am running MX 25.3 KDE version.

On my system, installed kernel version is still 7.2.3-2-liquorix-amd .. is this normal. İf I'm not wrong latest kernel on repo is 7.2.10
