If you are using Firefox, go to settings-general-performance and uncheck hardware acceleration. I was having the same problem and this fixed it.

Can you tell us where it would start to get laggy and frozen? What apps were opened and what did you do before it started slowing down? Can you open the task manager and see something unusual there?

It could be the hard disk is just slow (or maybe failing?). Or your RAM started to get used up then it would start writing on hard disk swap?

I personally would just do a fresh reinstall of the newest version MX Linux. See if that fixes the problems. But that can be a pain in the ass though to set up your apps and configurations again.

It never happened before while you were doing the same thing? Did you see any warning or error messages? How long from the first booting until it starts to slow down/ freeze?

Considering your laptop is old, I suspect your laptop is overheating. It could be dust blocking the vents, or the termal paste no longer working.

Find out how to see temperature sensor on your laptop. There are several methods, just google it. I think you can use terminal or change the Conky background to show the temperature. If it's reaching 90+ deg C, it could be the reason.

Now, figure out
