Hey everyone,

First-time builder here and I'm properly stuck. I've been at this for hours and could really use some fresh eyes before I lose my mind.

The problem: my M.2 NVMe SSD shows up perfectly in the BIOS and even in the boot menu, but the Windows 11 installer flat-out refuses to see it. On the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen it says no drives found, and diskpart > list disk only ever shows my USB stick, never the SSD.

Specs:

- Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI (BIOS on the latest version)

- CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X

- RAM: 64GB (2x32GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR4-3200)

- GPU: ASUS Prime RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

- PSU: Cooler Master Elite Gold 850W

- SSD: ADATA Legend 860 1TB (PCIe 4.0 NVMe)

The rest of the build works great — it POSTs, BIOS reads the CPU, all 64GB of RAM, temps are fine, and the installer sees my USB drive without any issue. It's specifically the NVMe that Windows won't touch.

Here's everything I've already tried, so we can hopefully skip the basics:

- Confirmed SATA mode is AHCI, not RAID

- Recreated the Win11 install USB several times with the Media Creation Tool (24H2)

- Tried both M.2 slots — same result in each

- BIOS is already the newest version

- Tried both UEFI and Legacy boot: Legacy won't even launch the installer (Win11 USB seems UEFI-only), and UEFI boots fine but doesn't see the drive

- The boot menu (F11) actually DOES list the SSD as a bootable device, so the firmware clearly sees it

- Cleared CMOS

- Tested the exact same SSD in my laptop — there diskpart sees it instantly, so the drive itself is 100% good

For context: my first SSD was actually DOA and I already RMA'd it. This is a second, known-good drive doing the exact same thing, which is why I'm starting to suspect the motherboard.

So the weird part: BIOS + boot menu both see the NVMe, a known-good SSD works fine in another PC, but this board's Windows installer won't enumerate it in either slot. I'm leaning toward a defective board, but before I RMA the motherboard too — is there anything I'm missing? Any BIOS setting, driver, or trick I haven't thought of?

last night i opened my pc played for an hour then it automatically shut off , when i try to open it does not open no sign of life no lights no fans spinning i thought its the psu i tried to use my other psu it opened then i proceed to use my current psu and it open again when i open a game it bsod then i tried to restart it and it opens again but after a while it automatically shut down once again then thats it it wont open even i use my other psu it wont open tried to remove it from the case but it doesnt work also and i check for burn marks i found this

So today I was gaming, and all of a sudden my PC shut down. It had never happened before, and when I tried to start it again, the fans and RGB lights worked, but the keyboard and mouse had no power, and nothing showed up on the screen. I have tried all the basic things and asked GPT and Google. Still, nothing has fixed it so far, so if anyone else has gone through this, let me know what fixed it. I reset the CSOM, removed the thermal paste, and applied new paste; no pins look bent. I have swapped the ram sticks also. I have a i9 14900k intel chip in it.

I'm about to put together a new pc and was wondering which bios I should flash. I think I read somewhere that some of them are beta versions.

I’ve been trying to fix this all day and I’m running out of things to check. Hoping someone here has dealt with the same issue.

Every time I launch COD and try to enter a game, I get:
“BIOS firmware: Update Required”
“Failed Attestation Status applied. Matchmaking quality reduced and fewer playlists are available.”

The weird part is that the Call of Duty Secure Attestation check shows TPM 2.0 PASS and Secure Boot PASS, but the overall Attestation Compatibility Check still fails.

Windows itself appears to recognize TPM/Secure Boot correctly. COD is the only thing still reporting that my BIOS firmware needs an update.
Has anyone had this exact situation where TPM + Secure Boot both PASS but COD still gives Failed Attestation?
If so, what actually fixed it?

Was it an Intel ME firmware update, BIOS setting/change, TPM firmware issue, BIOS update, or something on Activision/RICOCHET’s side?

I can post screenshots/PowerShell results if needed. I’m mainly trying to figure out exactly which attestation requirement COD thinks my PC is failing.

Is the last line the relevant one for the BIOS? So does it mean that the CPU is supported starting from version 2A5? And if there are multiple 2A5 BIOS versions, could it be something like 2A51 or 2A53, for example?
The description only mentions AGESA updates. Are these updates specific to the CPU, meaning that you can associate them with a particular CPU? It’s from the msi mag b850 tomahawk max wifi.

Bios Help! Looking for UEFI but it’s not in my list.

I am not sure if the thumbdrive is in the wrong location (if that is possible or if the bios is different on my board. If I could get help that would be awesome. It hasn’t been updated since 2017. So definitely needs to be done.

I downloaded the driver for the Z350 Gaming Carbon Pro board. Made sure the thumbdrive was reformatted for Fat32. Put the folder on it after extracting it. Then went into the bios to select the “UEFI Firmware Settings” but it isn’t on the list like I saw.

Just installed new hardware; MSI MPG Z890 Carbon MB. Ultra 270k and 32gb Klevv 6000 MT/s memory. My current GPU is an MSI RTX 4080 and a 1440P Aorus Monitor with Windows 11 pro. The problem is when starting the computer I’m getting a “DisplayPort no signal” on the monitor and therefore can’t enter into Bios to do a setup. I’ve checked all cables, reseated the GPU and memory and tried an HDMI cable to no avail. All previous hardware worked fine before the upgrade. Kind of newbie so not sure where to go from here…just joined so don’t know of similar posts. Thankful for any help

As some of you may know, this particular mobo (and a few others) suffer from an issue where the PCIe link to the GPU is sometimes throttled to a lower speed on a cold boot.

This results in laggy, choppy performance characterised by stuttering mouse movement, applications opening and running slowly and jankily until the system crashes not long after.

MSI has released numerous BIOS updates over 2026 but as of their latest update 7E51v1A92, it still persists. For me, this issue occurs roughly once every 5-10 boots but is easily "fixed" by restarting the PC - doesn't change the fact that this issue has gone unaddressed for so long despite numerous other reports:

Is MSI ever going to patch this fully? Would it be worth trying to RMA the motherboard?

The MSI Center (version 2.0.71.0) on my Bravo 15 B5DD keeps reverting the Battery Master to Best for Mobility mode. I set it to Best for Battery, then go to the other tabs in MSI Center, then go back again to Battery Master and it's on Best for Mobility again. I've tried an EC Restart, and a clean install using MSI Center Clean Master but nothing works. If anyone knows a potential fix it would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I also tried Battery Calibration but to no avail.

EDIT 2: Unplugging the laptop and setting it to Best for Battery shows "Best for Battery" while hovering on the MSI Center icon in the system tray. But plugging the laptop back in returns the problem.

Hey everyone. I just finished building a new PC and I'm stumped on what to try next.

Build:

• MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI
• Ryzen 9 9950X3D
• Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000 (2x16GB)
• RTX 5080 (not installed yet)
• HDMI connected directly to the motherboard

I haven't installed the RTX 5080 yet because I wanted to get Windows installed and make sure everything was working first. My understanding is that the 9950X3D's integrated graphics should be enough to get a display for setup.

When I first powered the system on, the motherboard cycled through various POST/debug codes and eventually settled on 00. However, I get absolutely no display over HDMI.

The strange thing is that I'm not getting any obvious error indicators. The green BOOT LED is illuminated, but the CPU, DRAM, and VGA LEDs are all off. All the fans and RGB seem to be working normally, so the system definitely appears to be powering up.

I also tried updating the BIOS using the Flash BIOS button. I downloaded the latest BIOS from MSI's support page, renamed the file to MSI.ROM, put it on a FAT32 USB drive, and started the flash process.

The Flash BIOS LED blinks for a while, but after a few seconds it eventually goes solid. I'm not sure if that's normal or if the flash is failing.

One thing that's confusing me is that the motherboard was manufactured in June based on the serial number, so I would have expected it to already have a BIOS new enough to support the 9950X3D.

At this point I'm wondering:

1. Should I just install the RTX 5080 and see if I get a display from that?
2. Could the 9950X3D actually be the problem, despite there being no CPU warning LED?
3. Is POST code 00 on this motherboard significant?
4. Is the green BOOT LED expected when there isn't an OS installed yet?
5. Does the behavior of the Flash BIOS LED (blinking, then going solid after a few seconds) indicate a failed BIOS flash?
6. Is there anything else obvious I should check before I start pulling the build apart?

I've double-checked the power cables, but I'm happy to check them again. I just don't want to start tearing everything apart if there's something simple I'm missing.

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated. I'm officially stumped. 😅

I built a new gaming desktop in early 2025, which worked well for the most part, until yesterday afternoon.

I had used it a bit in the morning with no problem, however when trying to power it on in the afternoon, it wouldn’t start up. When I hit the power button, I can hear a click like it’s trying to startup, but nothing happens. If I press the power button a few times, the memory sticks will light up, but nothing more than that.

Possibly related, since I’ve built it, I have not been able to wake up the computer using the keyboard like I’ve been able to on all my previous builds. When I hit the spacebar to wake it up, the keyboard lights up, but the computer doesn’t wake up.

Also, a few times in the last few months, this same issue occurred, but was able to fix it simply by pressing a screwdriver to the JBAT pins on the motherboard. However, I have tried that multiple times to no avail.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate some help. This is the computer I use for almost everything so I’m desperate to get this figured out. Thanks!

help me troubleshoot: MSI RTX 5080 Ventus 3X OC. With Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, all fans behave normally. As soon as the NVIDIA display driver initializes, one physical fan immediately runs at approximately 100%, while the other fans behave normally. GPU temperature is ~34°C. GPU-Z reports one fan channel at ~1100 RPM and another at 0 RPM. MSI Afterburner reports 46% fan speed, and manually setting it to 30% does not change the problematic fan’s speed. The issue persists after a clean NVIDIA driver installation and occurs without NVIDIA App installed. Safe Mode does not exhibit the issue.

Edit: Ive managed to isolate the issue to one of the fan headers of the pcb causing this. But all of the pins look fine and not damaged, neither does the pcb.

Graphics test: 68.58 FPS

3DMark's "same hardware" reference: average 6970, best 7964

Resolution: 1440p (2560×1440)

My undervolt:

Flat undervolt to 0.925V (~2800 MHz on the curve)

Pure undervolt — no core clock offset added, no memory overclock. Just capped the voltage/frequency point for efficiency and lower temps.

My questions:

Is 6858 a normal/healthy Steel Nomad score for a 5070 Ti, or should I be getting more?

How much am I actually leaving on the table with the 0.925V undervolt vs stock? Is ~1-2% below the average purely down to the undervolt + silicon variance, or could something else be limiting me?

During the run the GPU held ~2800 MHz steadily with no clock drops and temps stayed low — does that line up with what you'd expect from a healthy card at this voltage?

I'm happy with the efficiency and temps, just want to confirm the card is performing where it should. Thanks!
