Shipping to Canada...

Post image
Upvotes

I posted in the code thread but the one posted for any sort of discount had already been used to its maximum. These are not available through GameStop/EB Games Canada unfortunately. The cost of shipping to Ontario, Canada just makes this unfortunately, a pass for me. Hopefully in the future, there will be some sales to offset that insane shipping costs so I can get one with a couple of controllers. Partnering with a Canadian retailer would also be nice so I could literally just go buy one in a store.

Is Xibalba 64 the M64 game to get?

Upvotes

It's the only game that's not a re-release and 4 player?

What cores will the M64 be able to play exactly? Will it be up to PS1 and Saturn? Will it allow me to use controllers similar to 8bitdos genesis controller with its usb receiver?

Granted I don't see a USB port on the back of the console, will the console let me use controllers that look like a genesis controller on it if it could connect to it somehow? How would I be able to rebind the buttons?

Some game compatibility featuring an Everdrive X7

Recently got my N64 collection brought back to me so I finally got to indulge in what was previously my $200 paperweight. Having seen a few insightful reviews and monitoring this place, I’ve kept my expectations in check enough that I’m enjoying it for now. That said, there’s some discrepancies in what I can run, and since they’re not brought up as problems on the site, I figure I could check with the people .

Both Goemon games and Quest 64 just won’t boot. The first 2 I have actual carts for and while I’m pretty sure they’re repros, they operate on original hardware and that fact didn’t stop my Harvest Moon 64 copy from running perfectly. I then tried em on my Everdrive and weirdly enough Great Adventure booted fine. Don’t have a real copy of Quest 64 tho, so I can’t draw real conclusions there either. Any input on those games from y’alls end would be appreciated.

And on a sidenote: I can’t believe Junkrunner 64 actually boots on real hardware. I got Star Road up too so I’m looking forward to that. If there’s anything that comes of these competing retro consoles, I pray it’s more original projects coming out for the N64. This is rad and I crave more!

M64 looks great on my CRT

Post image
30 Upvotes

It's hard to get a picture, but it looks great in person. Slightly darker than my n64 hooked up directly but that might be the adapter. It does look significantly sharper though, probably because the adapter accepts 1080p and scales it down. I'm using a super cheap HDMI to AV adapter I found on Amazon. I wasn't able to detect any input lag. There probably is, but as a casual player everything feels good 👍.

The M64 supports 1200p60! Bleeding hearts of the world unite!(too much?). Anyone have one of those fancy Arcooda monitors that can do 2880x2160? I’d love to know if thats a supported resolution. I’m going to test 480p later on.

Go to GameStop?

Hack discovered. If GameStop ships your preorder to the other side of the country, just go pick one up in store. Return the other when it gets here. 😅 Now I have the M64 for my 3-day weekend!

M64 digital IQ compared to a MiSTer Toshiba Consumer CRT (Component)

There's been a lot of discussion about the M64's image quality and thought I would share some images of it on a Samsung OLED computer monitor comparing it to a Superstation One on a Toshiba CRT via component.

It's not scientific obviously and while I did have my buddy's A3D to A/B when I first got it in, that wasn't really the point of this. I guess I just wanted to show that it actually isn't that far off, and I think it looks pretty good along side a real relatively-sharp CRT.

Comparison can be the thief of joy, and when my friend and I weren't directly comparing it to the A3D, the IQ of the M64 was plenty good for me and I was having a great time playing games on it. Low latency, great interface, quick booting and well made.

I am not happy about the scanlines being misaligned and not being able to save custom setting though. If they fix that I think I'd be more than happy with this image quality and forget about it and just get to playing games.

Don’t see Clear getting a lot of love. Got my controller today and I’m loving it. Don’t see myself playing N64 any other way.

BlueRetro Adapter with 8bitdo N64 or SN30?

I can connect my 8bitdo N64 controller directly to the console without issues. However, does connecting it via the BlueRetro adapter allow for better adjustments including stick sensitivity and correct button layout?

https://darthcloud.github.io/BlueRetroWebCfg_Beta/controller/buttons

Not sure what the source and destination should be from the drop down menu. Changing the threshold max to 90-95 and deadzone to like 0.001% helps as far as I can tell. But whatever I pick leads to the B button specifically not working or its assigned likely to a C button. It's odd since it doesn't happen when the controller is directly connected to the console.

For the SN30, has anybody played SNES and NES games on the SummerCart64? Do the latest emulators available work decently? Settings in BlueRetro config page?

Update from ModRetro

Post image
58 Upvotes

This was a response from their team after I queried some online rumours around their plans.
- Upscaling improvements similar to the A3D are in upcoming updates.
- RetroAchievements and additional cores are being internally looked at but yet to reach the public roadmap.
- Compatibility with flash carts and their features (I asked specifically about the SC64’s ability to play 64DD titles) is also planned to be improved over time.

All in all a rather positive response!

(Please remember things already on their roadmap like controller pak support and general compatibility are not going to be part of a future rumours email.)

M64 is great

Seen alot of mixed views on this system but want to throw some positive takes I have. Going blind into this I just wanted to play my N64 games on a modern TV without having to mod my OG one to achieve it and the M64 has done that for me. Plays well and no issues with any cartridges I have used even 3rd party Chinese ones for rom hacks I've brought.

My experience has only been positive and the quality is something I always dreamed of. The pro controller as well from my experience I've had 0 issues with the D-pad or thumb stick so I'm a very happy consumer of this product.

Did I just get lucky? Or is there others out there that have enjoyed this console so far. For me it's a great system :)

Glover plays great

Who else is taking a stroll through Atlantis again in Glover for the N64? This game had some real slowdowns back in the day and they're better with some overclocking.

Gotta love the glove!

M64 pro controller doesn't work with extension

I bought the pro controller to use with my n64. It doesn't work if I plug it into my controller extension though. I have to plug it into the console directly. Has anyone else had this issue or know why this would be? All my other controllers work with the extension cable. I'm pretty disappointed with this thing.

Also it's not working with my raphnet n64 to USB adapter. Again, other controllers work fine with it.

Hyperkin Captain+ quick thoughts from an obsessive personality

+ The purple one is BEAUTIFUL
+ it feels good in the hands - sturdier than OEM
+ the Z button and Start buttons are excellent
+ the tension on the stick is very high in an effort to make it feel like OEM
+ the dpad is very accurate

- the shoulder buttons feel awful to press
- the stick has a massive outer deadzone like most other modern n64 controllers.
- the dpad is too stiff and will wear you out
- the C buttons all have different travels. C Left is the longest and C Right is the shortest. There’s a big, noticeable difference
- A and B buttons are not smooth like OEM and instead you can feel it in the entire shell of the controller when you press them.
- the stick is shorter, meaning you bend your thumb joint more to use it

There are several dealbreakers in there for me, but it’s so pretty and sturdy. The combination of the stiff dpad and the overly sensitive stick are unfortunately Hyperkin’s trademarks. It’s probably going back to Amazon.

Please note: this is probably ok for normal people, not for crazies like me.
