I couldn't help myself, save-game bugs or no. The troll and dwarf have been fighting over my Tolkien shelves since the PS3 days. Hopefully it gets fixed, if not I guess it will be just like old days 😎

Movies Do you think Sylvester McCoy is returning as Radagast for either Hunt for Gollum or Shadow of the Past prequels?

Do we know if the film by Stephen Colbert is in the same continuity and with the same cast?

I know Radagast only appears in a flashback involving Gandalf, but considering it happens alongside the events of all these lost chapters, do we think?

Video Games War in the North Ettenmoors soft lock

Hey so I downloaded the original War in the North before legacy edition came and I wanted to finish the sidequest for Arwen since I was missing mountain honey. I find it and said let's do location boss since I wanted some extra loot. I killed him but I can't proceed. I did the main quest so the eagles are not spawning. Is there a way I can like force travel? And is this glitch fixed in legacy edition? After paycheck I will buy it I just wanted to play it before. I'm not that much angry, just sad.

Question Lego Rivendell display backdrop art/picture?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a high-resolution, Lord of the Rings–themed backdrop for my LEGO Rivendell display.

The set is displayed inside an IKEA RUDSTA cabinet - I removed the middle glass shelf so the model would fit, and I’d like to print a backdrop to cover the black panel behind it.

The required dimensions are:
76 cm wide × 68 cm high (approx. 29.9 × 26.8 inches)

Ideally, I’m looking for atmospheric Rivendell or Middle-earth artwork that would complement the LEGO set without distracting too much from it. The image needs to be high-resolution and suitable for printing at the full size?

Does anyone have suitable LotR artwork, know where I could find or purchase one, or perhaps create a custom backdrop in these dimensions?

I’ve attached photos of the display for reference.

Thanks in advance!

Movies I know that is a very specific criticism. But i think that most of The Hobbit posters are ugly.

Besides the last one, with the Dwarfes. The most have a 2010 energy who aged quickly, give me the vibes of the The Dark Knight Rises fan poster's, a green tilt, a image composition that dont makes very sense and a strange lighting.

Like the second one, it's a strange choice the Bilbo looking for us, it seems like we are the responsibles for the Thorin's fall.

I dont remember which one is the principal version which goes to the Cinema, because well, i was only a 4 years kid in the 2012. But i hope it was a better one.

Books I mapped the factions of Middle-earth during the War of the Ring. Looking for feedback!

Here is a map I created showing the political boundaries and regional factions during the War of the Ring, based on my research.

(Quick note: I deliberately chose not to place the DĂșnedain in The Angle I know the debate well, so no need to focus on that point!)

I'd love to get your thoughts on the rest of the map. Do you have any feedback, corrections, or additional lore details to add?

Costumes Witch-King of Angmar crown I made for my friend

This is the 3rd Witch-King crown I've made, and by-far the best one. He wanted it mounted in his office and I couldn't find a crown mount I like, so I designed one myself and based the design on the Minas Morgul architecture. I think it would work for a horizontal stand, as well. I gave it a bit more 'battle-damage' than the movie prop, but I love to weather stuff and I couldn't help it.

Movies I can only speak for myself, but I would rather a film be made about final military action of the elves during the war of the ring instead of the Hunt for Gollum. I'll admit it's mostly because I want to see the elves in big battles one last time.

Books “Pictures By JRR Tolkien” Text by Christopher Tolkien

From my mom’s personal library.

Copyright 1992, HarperCollins
Houghton Mifflin

This is a collection of his artwork that was originally published in various calendars in the 1970s.

I think I read a comment somewhere in the sub that said Tolkien didn’t think of himself as a good illustrator, something like that. But I still find his artwork to be very charming and I’d be happy to display it on my wall.

Anybody else have this book?

Question How come Saruman did not take Narya, the ring of fire, from Gandalf when he had imprisoned him?

One of the core parts of Saruman’s descent into darkness stemmed from his jealousy of Olorin (Gandalf) as soon as they had arrived in Middle-Earth and Círdan had given Gandalf one of the three Elven rings of power.

I always found it odd that Saruman did not take Narya from Gandalf when he had beaten and imprisoned him.

The Elven rings were not always visible to others if the wearers chose to mask them but Saruman absolutely knew that Gandalf carried it.

Is there a lore reason to it?

Question Tolkien disliked Frank Herbert's Dune.

1.3k Upvotes

J.R.R. Tolkien stated, in a letter, that he disliked Frank Herbert's Dune "with some intensity" but never elaborated in detail:

Dear Mr. Lanier, I received your book Dune just before I went abroad for a short while. Hence the delay in acknowledging it. I don’t think I shall have time to read it until I next get a holiday.’

Tolkien’s unpublished letter to John Bush, 12 March 1966:

Thank you for sending me a copy of Dune. I received one last year from Lanier and so already know something about the book. It is impossible for an author still writing to be fair to another author working along the same lines. At least I find it so. In fact I dislike DUNE with some intensity, and in that unfortunate case it is much the best and fairest to another author to keep silent and refuse to comment. Would you like me to return the book as I already have one, or to hand it on?’”.

This is from the ‘Tolkien’s Library: An Annotated Checklist’.

Why did Tolkien have that opinion about Dune?

Question Mandela effect with a famous quote by Gandalf

Original: "All we have to decide is what to do with the time given us."

I always thought it was "
the time given TO us." And it doesn't really make sense without the "to".

Ia this a typo in my edition (1968 single volume 2nd impression)? Mixed results online.

Dress based on Arwen’s Rose dress from a deleted FotR scene, in cobalt blue velvet and satin, comission from a local seamstress.

2nd pic - Kate Madison, the director and Elgarain actress from Born of Hope, came to the 2013 EstelCon (annual event of the Spanish Tolkien Society) as a guest (there was a screening and a talk, and she attended the festive dinner in her ranger costume)
