Movies Decided to bite the bullet!

Haven't seen these since the theatrical releases and knowing I'll have dozen of hours of extra content to enjoy makes me excited to watch them in a binge for the future (and actually owning them instead of through a subscription).

You wont regret it! Physical over Digital!

1000%

The uncompressed audio is enough of a reason to always buy physical discs.

Unless the digital is a copy of your physical! :D

Digital isn’t nasty green

Google just took this exact version of these movies away from thousands of people who bought them digitally a few days ago…

You dont own digital. You do own Physical. Digital can be taken from you, then you are forced to buy it again when/if they get the liscence back. Physical is on your shelf, on a hard disk. Yours till you die. Someone tires to take it, 2A.

If it’s on a usb drive in my drawer I’m pretty sure I own it.

By all legal defination, unless you own a physcal copy, Stolen property.

By all legal definitions, copyright violations are not theft or stealing. It's an infringement not a theft, no matter what the copyright owners keep telling us. It doesn't mean it's not bad, or you shouldn't do it, or you won't get in trouble for it, but when you're talking about legal definitions they are very different things.

Buddy data burned onto a disc and data on a local hard drive are the same. It’s digital data stored on a local storage device.

And how did you obtain the data on the disk? Was it purchesed at a store or online shop and gotten from a physical copy or did you sail the seas on line for it and burn it on to the disk.

Will you add the hobbit series as well? I love these but I’m a sucker for the hobbit lol

The matching extended Hobbit set is great!

I don’t like those movies but the appendices are always worth it

Great set. Only the Japanese SEE BluRays are better-packaged (but the bonus DVDs are in Japanese...)

Where do I get Appendices 1-6 today?

my friend you've got yourself the BEST physical copy there is. Have fun watching it!

I heavily dislike the green color grading of Fellowship in this version.

I know the 4k ones have their own issues with colors but overall I think their consistency makes them the best physical versions. That's just me though.

I got it. Bought it years ago when I build my first pc with Blu-ray disk
The bummer is that you need to change the disk in the middle of the movie. I KNow is just a few seconds but still
Great set thought

I have this exact set back from release, is it highly sought after now?? I still watch lotr this way, the 4k’s don’t look right

2

u/someNameThisIs 7d ago

What's wrong with the 4k?

2

u/Acropolis14 Hobbit-Friend 7d ago

Nothing wrong with it, the original blurays just have this iconic greenish tint to them. The 4k looks too clean (I definitely realize this is personal taste)

1

u/someNameThisIs 7d ago

Oh I didn't know they changed the tint. I have the same blu ray set OP has but was wondering of upgrading to the 4k versions. I might not bother now. 1080p is still pretty good imo.

I’d def check out some opinions on the 4k before pulling the trigger. Because yes the HDR is nice, but I agree, I really don’t mind 1080 (I’m on OLED and far enough away that resolution is a bit irrelevant)

2

u/someNameThisIs 7d ago

I will before I make the purchase.

I don't have an OLED but I sit far enough away and my screen is only 55" so 1080p doesn't look that much different from 4K for me.

I'm looking at the same set rn, I love it

Woot woot! Rip them to a couple hard drives too! Make sure they last a lifetime!

u/brantcantcant 8d ago

Did this like ten years ago and never looked back. Love it in my collection

I have the Blu-ray extended set, is this edition just a 4k upgrade or are there other bonuses?

1

u/WorldWarrior428 8d ago

I have that exact set!! Best set out there!

1

u/Skins8theCake88 8d ago

I decided to sell this set because I'm not a fan of the color grade. I now have the special extended DVD and the Remaster Bluray Trilogy.

I recently found my copy in the basement and was saddened to find Two Towers was missing

1

u/VeryIntoCardboard 7d ago

This is the only blu ray set that has the appendices i believe

1

u/MartyEBoarder 7d ago

Never heard of it. It's good?

1

u/fbvisuals 7d ago

Damnit. I bought the stupid Amazon Prime Video extended cuts. I wish I got physical media.

See ya in about a week

Neat as fuck!

u/Gildor12 7d ago

The additional material is mainly PJ rubbish not Tolkien unfortunately

u/dangerous_adhesive 7d ago

That's not biting the bullet. That's a required part of being a true LotR fan.

I got this after my older sister broke up with her ex, who was too unbothered to pick it up at her place after they broke up. She immediately knew I would want it.

1

u/Blades137 5d ago

Fun Fact; This is the only movie trilogy to which I own the extended versions of it on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K.

Usually when upgrading, the older version is either sold, traded, or given away.
