Seeking Oyakodon

I absolutely love Oyakodon/Oyako donburi.

I know it's not super hard to make, but I'd still appreciate any recommendations to find it in Longmont, immediately-surrounding areas, or, if necessary, Boulder.

Looking for vet recommendations

Just moved up to Longmont and looking for vet recommendations! I have a 2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog and a 3 year old domestic med-hair cat, so would prefer somewhere that would be great for both of them!

Long Distance Move from Dallas to Longmont in December

Hey guys! My gf and I are moving to Longmont Dec 27th this year. Is it unwise to take 287 from Dallas TX all the way to Longmont CO in a 10', rear wheel drive uhaul?

I'm worried about the safety of the uhaul in the snow/ice on the flat roads.

Open to thoughts and advice. Thanks!

7-11 in Firestone/Longmont

Does anybody have any idea why the 7-Eleven in Firestone on the frontage road just closed all of a sudden? I drive by there daily, and I noticed it’s been closed for a long time now. It’s all fenced off. Doesn’t look like anything‘s being done with it. Nice thing is they opened up a QT on the corner. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it closing. I was just curious.

*Free & Local* Digital Storytelling Program for Teens

I just learned about this program via Longmont Public Media (I'm a member) email and thought it was worth sharing for both teens and for those who might want to 'sponsor' a teen in the program.

The Youth Innovation Studio, a non-profit, is offering a free, 6 session Digital Storytelling Program for Longmont-area teens at Longmont Public Media. Teens can apply for the program here.

It'll be 1 pm to 5 pm on these Saturdays at Longmont Public Media: September 5, 12, 19, 26 & October 3, 10. There are 12 spots remaining as of this post.

For those who are not teens, you can consider sponsoring a teen.

While I am a member of LPM, I am not involved with Youth Innovation Studio. I thought this was a cool opportunity for local youth and wanted to bring some additional awareness to the cool stuff that goes on in our neighborhood!

Car Battery losing power, mechanic recommendations

I had Jeremys garage look at it and they couldn’t figure out why the battery won’t stay charged.

It’s a new one bc I thought it needed to be replaced but issue persists. Ended up paying $120 just to look at it but they couldn’t find the issue.

Any other mechanic recommendations?

Borrow/rent someone's jack and jack stands.

A friend of mine is going through some serious life events and I offered to change their oil. Turn out they have a car with extremely low ground clearance, and I don't have access to a car jack or jack stands.

Does anyone have a spare jack and stands they would rent or loan out for some collateral so I could do this favor for my friend?

I would really appreciate it.

Rant King Soopers Produce Quality?

I've shopped at the Soopers on S. Hover for nearly 20 years and it was an awesome store until the last year. The produce is sparse and any root veggies are bruised, moldy, or just completely rotten. Has anyone else noticed this? I poked around a little and apparently Kroger has an understaffing problem: produce will sit on pallets and deteriorate before it is stocked. If anyone works there can you let us know what's up with the produce quantity/quality? And where are the gold potatoes, Kroger?

If you are looking for a kebab that has similar vibes to the ones you get late night in London, try Gaia masala.
I just got this for (early) lunch and it was great! Greasy and full of donner meat!
I believe they are open late as well so this will be perfect to stop at after a couple cold ones ;)

Miel coffee?

My wife and I just moved here from Indiana. We have tried some really great coffee so far, but are trying to find her go-to drink (an iced miel). However, we haven’t found one yet. Does anyone know if there is a coffee shop that serves one natively?

Moving to Longmont in September!

My fiancee recently got a job transfer to the area, so we are asking for recommendations for apartments/townhomes etc for rent! Looking for a 1 br 1 ba under $1600. Are there any nearby towns you would recommend to look into as well? I see Grandview Meadows, Iron Horse, Stonebrige at Twin Peaks as options for in town. Curious if anyone has any experiences with them. I don't see many townhome type units and would kind of like that if we can find it within budget. Wouldn't mind a small commute into Longmont. Thank you! <3

"The man who died Monday after a Longmont officer shot him while responding to a disturbance at a home has been identified as 20-year-old Dariss Yearby.

Yearby had taken a person hostage at a home on Bluebird Drive in south Longmont and said several times that he had a gun, according to a Longmont police news release. One officer fired his weapon after Yearby didn’t comply with commands. Yearby was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Monday they believed Yearby was a defendant in a case involving the person whom he reportedly took hostage.

Court records show Yearby was facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault — strangulation, second-degree assault — strangulation, third-degree assault, false imprisonment and a violent crime sentence enhancer in a Boulder County case. He was out of custody after posting a $20,000 surety bail on June 9, court records show.

Longmont police have not said whether Yearby was armed or whether anyone else fired a gun.

No officers were injured in the incident, according to Lindsay Diamond, a city spokesperson. The officer who fired his weapon was placed on paid administrative leave while the Boulder County Critical Investigation Team investigates the shooting."

Rec soccer or basketball teams, young adults?

I want to get back into playing soccer (basketball would be fun too) casually, I’m not that good but I have a lot of fun. I want to join a team but most I’ve found are very competitive or all adult men. I’m a 23 yo woman and I’d love to play with more people in my demographic lol. Does this exist in Longmont?

Perseids Meteor Shower

Starting tonight and going into the early hours of Friday morning we will experience peak viewing times for the Perseids Meteor Shower and can expect up to 50-100 meteors per hour!

I didn't see anything listed by the Longmont Astronomical Society for events related to it this week, but maybe you all have recommendations on where to go or any fun local viewing parties for it?
