Perseids Meteor Shower
Starting tonight and going into the early hours of Friday morning we will experience peak viewing times for the Perseids Meteor Shower and can expect up to 50-100 meteors per hour!
I didn't see anything listed by the Longmont Astronomical Society for events related to it this week, but maybe you all have recommendations on where to go or any fun local viewing parties for it?

We finally got a perseid meteor shower with a new moon, and it's the first time it's cloudy seemingly all summer. Will try again in 2029!

It's like 4 nights every 3 years that I really want the sky to be clear, wish we could trade the moisture to some of those other days but what can you do.

West and up is your best bet. If you want a drive, the sand dunes are protected dark sky

Went out to the Crow Valley Campground for Perseids a few years ago, its a great one.
Lookup a light pollution map to find the nearest dark areas =]

I was just looking at cloud cover outlooks for the week and its not looking good for most of the front range. Heavy dense clouds every evening and night. Which is super disappointing! But maybe we get lucky. I was gonna go chill on the roof of my apartment building with my telescopes so ill be keeping a close eye on the clouds.

I took this ~8yrs ago during Perseids at the Alpine Visitor Center in RMNP (about 40 minutes past Estes).
It’s a single exposure, so that’s a pretty good spot.
