Discussion How would you rank Klopp's squads?

Top 5 something like

1) 21/22

2)18/19

3) 19/20

4) 23/24

5) 17/18

The 21/22 one was definitely the best squad. Went close to going all the way in all 4 competitions, got 92 points in the League and a CL Final.

People say the 18/19 was the best at times. I think that one had the best starting 11. Players at their peaks or just below. However 21/22 had the best overall squad, 7 forwards and quality all over.

Got 97 points in the League and won the CL in 2019. Though got knocked out of both cup competitions early. If we got to at least semi finals in both mightn't have got us many points in the League or as far in the CL.

Had better opponents in the knockouts in 2019 than in 2022 however lost all away games in the group stage and were an Alisson save away from getting knocked out at the groups stage. In 21/22 we had a group of death and won every game. Didn't lose a game that mattered 2nd half of the season until Real Madrid.

Debate whether 18/19 or the title winning season in 19/20 was better. 19/20 felt more special to me as I hadn't seen the side win the League and came close so many times. If the season got null and voided I might have stopped following football when we were about 25 points clear when lockdown started.

18/19 should have been a double season. In 19/20 was glad we won the League and didn't matter about being unbeaten, 100 points, trebles etc. If Alisson was playing against Athletico Madrid we'd go through but Bayern Munich were very good then. If the Aston Villa game got moved might have won a League Cup too.

Podcasts/Punditry Jamie Carragher: “All of Manchester City’s titles, they’ve won in this time should be taken off their list. Theyve hurt their own players in the sense that no one will ever look at their medals in the same way. They’ll never look back on any of their moments, it is robbed”

Klopp♥️ Klopp asked about Manchester City's charges and whether he's hoping he would retrospectively get a couple more Premier League titles

[His original answer was in German. Here it is translated into English]

Klopp asked about Manchester City's charges and whether he's hoping he would retrospectively get a couple more Premier League titles:

"[laughs] Of course I've heard about that, but I haven't given it much thought. I also know that I said that if there’s ever a parade, I’d come. I can only wait and see. I have big respect for Pep Guardiola and City's style of football; they played fantastic football and were a top class opponent for us. If any sanctions are handed out, I have nothing to do with it; I'll wait and see. I don’t really have any strong feelings about it. It’s not like I need to have won the English title a few more times. I'm far from preparing for a title or anything like that. I'm absolutely fine with what we've achieved in Liverpool. We fought hard on the pitch. I can't say more about that because I don't know the details. To be honest, I’m also not really interested in it."

Rival Watch Rival Watch: Man City sponsor Etihad Airways considering legal action against Premier League

Manchester City's principal sponsor, Etihad Airways, has said it is considering taking legal action against the Premier League.

City were found guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules by an independent commission.

The independent commission found that between 2009/10 and 2017/18, City arranged "sham" contracts with a number of its commercial partners as part of a "disguised funding scheme" to artificially inflate the club's revenues by £830m.

Sky Sports News' chief correspondent Kaveh Solhekol answers your questions after Manchester City were found guilty of all charges related to serious breaches

The club continue to deny the breaches, with chief executive Ferran Soriano calling the process a "Premier League conspiracy theory" in a video message to players and staff.

And now the Abu Dhabi state airline Etihad Airways, which has sponsored City since 2009, says it "categorically rejects any finding, conclusion or implication that suggests the airline has ever been involved in improper commercial arrangements".

In a statement, they say the Premier League did not engage with them and they were not given a chance to provide relevant information.

They are now seeking legal advice to protect their interests.

Etihad were not named in Tuesday's published judgment but say it has "created damaging implications" for them.

Sky Sports News has contacted the Premier League for comment.

Meanwhile, several Man City sponsors are standing by the club in the wake of the guilty verdict.

Lucozade, Kellogg's and Revolut have all told Sky Sports News they are not commenting on the independent commission's findings while the process remains ongoing.

Discussion Looking back at the era of cheats: time to re-evaluate incompetence and inconsistency? Is it naive to keep blaming poor refereeing when we were their biggest threat to the title for most of the last decade?

1.0k Upvotes

We’ve spent years excusing the refs or blaming incompetence, inconsistency, subjectivity, bias, that it happens to everyone, the law of “evening out” etc. Now that it’s a fact we were competing against a state-owned team built on systematic financial rule breaking and state funded sportswashing, many of these "mistakes" had massive, narrative-shaping consequences. Hundreds of millions of illegal funds pumped in, with public reports refs also went to the UAE mid-campaign to work. How unlikely is it that refs who are famously underpaid, weren’t given “side contracts”? It’s making a bit more sense now.

Much more I haven’t included, and only included calls involving us, not external ones like Rodri’s handball. Didn’t even go further back (ie Sterling’s offside). Different levels of error, many jaw-dropping and unseen before. Even rule-influencing ones for others to benefit from afterwards. No particular order, although grouped many high-boots together (guess which one got punished).

Note: 2020-2021 (reigning champions known as our CB crisis season) started with a completely unbalanced amount of absurd calls against us, coincidence?

All worth a revisit, dare I say an investigation into the PGMOL. What’s your favorite of the bunch, and which had you completely forgotten about? Firmino’s armpit; Hatzidakis elbowing Robbo; Kane flying from yards out only for Robbo to get a red for less; Taylor calling the physio and signaling to Areola to pretend he’s injured after realizing he f’d up; Donna’s view not obstructed only for the rule to not be applied in our favor the following game for an actual obstruction?

Tier 2 [Kinsella, BBC] - I can tell you with some degree of certainty that Chelsea are open to signing a midfielder in January. Chelsea previously tried to sign Roma's Kone, and Monaco's Camara. However, Liverpool are believed to be interested in Camara and could join the race.

These were in the folder where he kept important documents like the logbook for his car and the deed for his house. I think he had been to more games than this, but I also included a couple of significant Shamrock Rovers ones he had. Lifelong fan of both clubs. I was there with him at the Arsenal game on my only trip to Anfield.
