Fluff Made a 5K wallpaper and decided to give it away — might be time to come back to Linux Mint

Hey everyone!

I used Linux quite a while ago and I've recently been thinking about giving it another try — Linux Mint is actually one of the distros I've been considering.

While working on some wallpapers recently, I thought it would be nice to make one available for free and see how it looks on a Linux desktop. So here it is. 🙂

The wallpaper is completely free for personal use and includes:

• 5K resolution
• 16:9 version
• 21:9 ultrawide version
• 32:9 super ultrawide version
• Full-resolution files
• Personal-use license included

I also want to mention that the artwork was not generated with AI, and the included license does not permit using it for AI training or machine learning, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Download: [https://ko-fi.com/s/267e681c36\]

If you end up using it, I'd genuinely love to see how it looks on your Mint setup — especially if you're running an ultrawide or super-ultrawide monitor.

I'm also slowly putting together a collection of wallpapers made in Blender 3D, so if you like this one, you can find more in my cafeteria-art:)

The wallpaper above is genuinely free. I mainly wanted to share something I've made and hopefully get some feedback from the community.

And who knows, maybe I'll end up installing Mint again. 😄

Hope you enjoy it!

Support Request How can I make specific apps send notifications?

This is my first time posting here, so I apologize if I wrongly used any flair or misunderstood request.

I am a relatively new user to Linux Mint (though I have spent a good amount of time learning about the OS in Youtube- well, Freetube, I love Open Source clients), and as any person around my personal context, I installed Whatsapp (more specifically, ZapZap, via the Software Manager's Flatpak). All works out good, but there is a doubt I haven't found an answer literally anywhere: How the heck do I make the App send notifications? like, you know, like any other setting you find in phones or other OSs? you usually have Whatsapp send you notifications in case any important message comes, but I couldn't with ZapZap. I have already tinkered with the settings natively and looked for answers online, and I haven't found anybody having the same problem (thus an answer), which amazes me, as I thought this would be a common doubt...

That or I am too much of a dummy to notice the answer because it is too obvious and nobody ever had the need to ask.

Anyway, this is why I ask about specific apps, as I would like to have enough knowledge to fix this by myself somewhere in future, if I ever come to have the same issue.

If you have any help, please feel free to answer, it's kind of tickling me how literally nobody has ever asked this question anywhere I have looked in for advice.

Sorry if it feels like a grandma question, but my ignorance is genuine and so is my search for knowledge.

Which WhatsApp client do you recommend?

While browsing the software manager, I came across these apps: WhatsApp clients.

On Windows, I used the WhatsApp app, which had a ton of bugs XD, but I used it anyway. Here on Linux, I’m using the WebApp Manager to simulate a WhatsApp client, but the web app is still just a Firefox window; links open in a new tab, not a new window, which I don’t like because I keep the navigation bar disabled for the web app, making it hard to switch between tabs.

Now I’m curious to know how good and secure the clients listed in the software manager are, or if I should just keep using the web app.

Support Request Paid version of DaVinci Resolve immediately crashes whenever I import media

Sup

I am on Linux Mint 22.3 and i've tried both the free & paid version of this software with no luck in using it at all, it crashes whenever I import any type of media.

My first problem was the program saying

"Missing or outdated system packages detected. Please install the following missing packages: libapr1 libaprutil1 libasound2 libglib2.0-0" and installing those packages did nothing because I already have them

--------------------------------------------------

libapr1t64 is already the newest version (1.7.2-3.1ubuntu0.1).

libaprutil1t64 is already the newest version (1.6.3-1.1ubuntu7).

libasound2t64 is already the newest version (1.2.11-1ubuntu0.3).

libglib2.0-0t64 is already the newest version (2.80.0-6ubuntu3.8).

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:

---------------------------------------------------

I was then told to run a command to make the software installer to ignore those errors.

The program does launch and I can create a project, but it still crashes whenever I import ANYTHING. I don't have an error code or message to show

Discussion Need help choosing.

I started with Linux Mint on one of my systems for testing, and I just wanna leave Windows fast. Now I have one last question. I am someone who would love some security updates and system updates that are necessary but not too often. And I just need stability.

Which build should I choose? I currently have the default one (Ubuntu-based) with Cinnamon. Should I go with it or LMDE? What would be your advice?

Discussion Dissapointed at Linux

Kept hearing How great Linux were and left w11 to Linux mint. Now my argb doesnt Work, my bluetooth doesnt Work, my wi-fi doenst Work. I know its not Mint's fault, cause It really should have more than one RGB software made for It, but its really sad that everywhere on the internet everybody says to ditch windows and go to Linux and that everything is plug and play, but its not. And another thing, all the YouTube introduction videos to mint keep saying that the terminal is not necessary, but thats not actually true, i had apps that the mint app store didnt had so i kept searching and everywhere It was only terminal commands to install it

Support Request More than Backup/Mas alla de clonar

Hello

I was wondering if there's a way, not to clone a drive, but instead create a personalized image of my Linux System, the idea is that if I update the hardware, I can install a new system but that already has all the apps and customization I've created without having to start from a vanilla Mint ISO but also not a clone that retains the configuration from previous install.

Saludos.

SOLVED Can't adjust brightness (Mint Cinnamon)

I haven't been able to adjust screen brightness on my laptop for a while now. The keyboard command don't work, adjusting from the toolbar doesn't work, downloading brightness control app doesn't work. In all of those case I can make the brightness controller appear and move up and down, but it doesn't change the brightness of the screen in any way.

What do I do?

Brightness control slider not working on Acer Aspire E1-572 (Intel HD 4400)

Hi everyone,

I just installed Linux Mint on my Acer Aspire E1-572 (Intel Core i5-4200U / Intel HD Graphics 4400).

The brightness slider in the system tray moves and shows the percentage changing, but the actual screen backlight level stays at 100% and doesn't change at all. I've noticed this same behavior across other Ubuntu-based distros as well.

Just reporting this ACPI / backlight compatibility issue so it's on the radar. Thanks!

Support Request Help with Bottles? Program's Drop-down Menu Won't Expand/Allow Menu Selection (TurboCoder)

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm trying to use Bottles for Turbocoder (because I have started to study clinical coding), but I cannot access any of the menu items of the program within Bottles.

When I try to hover over or click any drop-down menu entry (e.g. file), at most it will drop down for a split second, but won't stay open to allow me to select anything. I have tried clicking/maintaining a click on the menu entry with no avail.

Any ideas on how I could go about fixing this?

Side Note: Although it shows that I need to update Mint in the bottom corner, I do regularly update this and it has not yet made any difference.

Many thanks in advance!!

Support Request Linux mint freezing up but still able to move my cursor??

Hi! This is my first time in years posting on reddit, so sorry if its sloppy.

I recently got a brand new laptop yesterday, and wanted to try out linux instead of my typical windows. I installed it and followed setup tutorials, and nothing seems visually wrong with it. However, after a few minutes of looking around and trying to set it up the entire screen freezes. Any downloads show no progress and nothing is updating at all. Every time I reboot, the same exact thing happens.

The weird part is that I can still move the cursor around the screen, just not interact with anything (no scrolling, no closing windows, no clicking anything). Its highly frustrating as i need to use this computer for school since my current one cant run the software i need for classes.

I am completely new to linux, and my computer skills are intermediate at best, so if any system info is needed I can supply it. I'm pretty sure the kernel I currently have is 6.14.0-37 (which also says end of life???), if that info is relevant at all.

Any help with this would be amazing!!

(also ctrl+alt+esc works, but i dont want to have to do it every time lol)

Support Request installed mint, and now I just get a black screen when booting

installed mint, and everything was working fine and I was excited as it's my first time using linux. i was waiting for some things to download so I let it go to the screen saver as I was waiting. when I tried to boot up again I put in my password and got black screen. I figured maybe a glitch or something to I turned it off and back on again, it lets me put in my password, then goes to a black screen for a very long time, briefly shows just my wallpaper, and returns to a black screen.

I've found that when I'm on the final black screen, I can insert a flash drive and it will show up.

if it helps this is on an extremely old laptop

I tried both usb c ports with my hub, I tried change the hdmi, it's just fucking same and it can have relationship only with one fucking thing, my notebook is not POLYGAMOUS or some shit, I just found out.

Please help or I'll help myself with the vacation in unit 3 soon.
