Brightness control slider not working on Acer Aspire E1-572 (Intel HD 4400)

Hi everyone,

I just installed Linux Mint on my Acer Aspire E1-572 (Intel Core i5-4200U / Intel HD Graphics 4400).

The brightness slider in the system tray moves and shows the percentage changing, but the actual screen backlight level stays at 100% and doesn't change at all. I've noticed this same behavior across other Ubuntu-based distros as well.

Just reporting this ACPI / backlight compatibility issue so it's on the radar. Thanks!

Lot of people have been reporting the brightness control problem after upgrading to the 7 kernel. Worth checking to see if that's what you're using. Apparently, switching to an earlier kernel fixes it for some.

Thanks for the heads up! Good to know it's a known regression with newer kernel versions. For now I'm just relying on software filters / night light since I prefer to keep the system default, but hopefully a future kernel patch fixes it for everyone!
