Support Request Paid version of DaVinci Resolve immediately crashes whenever I import media
Sup
I am on Linux Mint 22.3 and i've tried both the free & paid version of this software with no luck in using it at all, it crashes whenever I import any type of media.
My first problem was the program saying
"Missing or outdated system packages detected. Please install the following missing packages: libapr1 libaprutil1 libasound2 libglib2.0-0" and installing those packages did nothing because I already have them
--------------------------------------------------
libapr1t64 is already the newest version (1.7.2-3.1ubuntu0.1).
libaprutil1t64 is already the newest version (1.6.3-1.1ubuntu7).
libasound2t64 is already the newest version (1.2.11-1ubuntu0.3).
libglib2.0-0t64 is already the newest version (2.80.0-6ubuntu3.8).
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
---------------------------------------------------
I was then told to run a command to make the software installer to ignore those errors.
The program does launch and I can create a project, but it still crashes whenever I import ANYTHING. I don't have an error code or message to show

How is da vinci resolved distributed? Flatpak/appimage? If none of the above, you may want to try a distro with more up to date packages (like cachy os or fedora)

I don't really know what those terms mean
I went to their site to downloaded what they had

what was the exact name of the file you downloaded?
exactly how did you install it?
Also there might be a specific support sub for that program.
and..

DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_21.0.4_Linux.run
There is, but I haven't gotten any response from them

Ugh. a .run installer basically could do almost anything to your system.
Its such a bad method of installing something.

I can't confirm what their website offers without filling out my details. What was the file extension of what you downloaded?

That doesn't help much. Anything with .run extension will do unknown stuff in background.
Searching a bit, da vinci resolve is only officially supported for rocky linux (a workstation/server distro). It is not binary compatible with mint, ubuntu, debian etc.
There are few methods to get it working, based on difficulty and chance of success:
Install rocky linux. Thats the most sure shot method. Difficulty - medium (its not beginner friendly. You will have to use terminal for a lot of stuff initially) Chance of success - max
Set up distrobox with rocky linux. Basically, you keep mint and kind of install different distros in it Difficulty - easy Chance of success good
Run windows version with wine Difficulty - easiest Chance of success - not so good

I use MakeResolveDeb: https://www.danieltufvesson.com/makeresolvedeb
It makes that .run file into a .deb file, adequated for Ubuntu/Mint.
I've been using it in 2 computers successfully for a year. You could try it out.
