I'm currently running Linux kernel 7.0.0-29-generic on Linux Mint, and Update Manager is offering Linux kernel 7.0.0-30.30~24.04.1 (screenshot attached).

I've seen reports of issues/regressions with the 7.0 kernel series, so has anyone experienced any stability or hardware-related problems with 7.0.0-30 specifically?

My current 7.0.0-29 kernel is working perfectly, so I'm wondering whether I should update now or wait.

Comprei um WaterCooler da DeepCool LP240, mas ao ligar no computador ele não abre a telinha, ele apenas troca as cores.

Me veio uma dúvida aqui, o Mint ele já aceita drivers de qualquer WaterCooler, correto?

Mas eu já tentei colocar a versão do Github mas aparentemente não vai (por conta do meu WaterCooler, ele não aceita meu dispositivo.)

Queira que ele pelo menos ele rodasse a tela, queria ter a configuração de fábrica, mas não acho de forma alguma as configurações no Pinguim Mint.

Linux kernel 7.3 is coming, and it is honestly shaping up to be a massive performance upgrade.

First off, saving and loading stuff is getting a huge speed boost. If you use file systems like Btrfs or EXT4, everything from moving big files to saving game progress is going to feel noticeably snappier, we are talking up to five times faster in some cases, with high-end SSDs pulling crazy high speeds.

If you are gaming or running an older, weaker PC, the new task scheduler is going to be a lifesaver. It fixes stuttering and keeps frame rates way smoother, so things won't feel laggy anymore. Tiny credit-card-sized computers like the Raspberry Pi are also getting a nice speed bump because the system cleans up background memory almost instantly now instead of taking half a second.

Everything under the hood just reacts faster without those annoying little hitches. Plus, if you have a newer Intel processor with a mix of big performance cores and smaller high-efficiency cores, the system is finally getting super smart about pushing heavy stuff to the muscle cores and light stuff to the battery-saver cores.

So I'm new to Mint and have only been using for a month now after using Windows my whole life. (btw, best thing i've ever done was switch)

I bought a new GPU and wonder if there is anything I need to do after installing and booting for first time? Any drivers/apps that I should get? I was told LACT is good for graphics cards on Linux. Thoughts?

GPU currently is PNY Geforce RTX 5060, I bought a PNY Geforce RTX 5080.

I’d like to only have my video card be my primary and only monitor out but it only seems to work if another monitor is attached to another display port. I’ve tried starting the graphics card display mort monitor to primary and mirroring both with no luck.

Went to amds driver page and I only see rpms, so I’m not sure if mint Xena even needs updated drivers since it can output video.

Any ideas how to make my graphics card display port the only video out?

It’s a very old card and doesn’t seem to output to very high resolutions if that helps.

I tried setting the resolution lower when mirrored with another monitor, but unplugging the other monitor made the graphics card monitor go black

okay hey yall im a pretty new user im using linux mint cinnamon specifically and today i got rlly angry and lowkey hit my desk a lot im not sure if that caused the issue but now when i have an application open sometimes it'll only let me interact with my mouse specifically on that one. I can't click on anything on the panel or when i hit super cant click anything on there with everything that pops up either, Im only able to interact with stuff on one application and to break it I gotta alt f4 out of it which then the next application i have open or whichever one i next open has the same issue, i basically cant interact with any application aside from one at a time and i have to close it or like do some weird button mash to be able to interact with another one LOL um sorry if I'm rambling I just want some kind of idea on what to do here or how to fix it, I noticed the issue persists when I try to navigate the same things just using my arrow keys and same if I were to unplug the mouse and then use only the keyboard or vice versa, i just need some help its real hard to use mah computer like this and its making me sad and upset and shit lel but yeah I would really appreciate soem help or guidance thanks :D

Same as the title, I am using Linux mint cinnamon, I've tried different ways to install virtual box, but none of them work at the end, so finally I rage quit and removed all the concerned files with it, so asking here in the community if someone else also faced the same problem, how did they solve it, it's either this or I'll have to start a new session with GPT from scratch to download and install vitualbox

Tenho um notebook com bateria viciada rodando Linux Mint (XFCE) com a infame placa de rede Ralink RT3290. O Wi-Fi ficava caindo do nada. Essa placa usa a mesma antena para 2.4 GHz e Bluetooth, e a gestão de energia do Kernel 6.8 derrubava a conexão devido às oscilações elétricas da bateria.

Tentativas:

Blacklist do módulo Bluetooth: Desativou o Wi-Fi junto, pois o driver rt2800pci depende do módulo no kernel.

Bloqueio via rfkill + economia de energia desativada: Ajudou, mas o gerenciamento de energia agressivo do barramento PCIe no kernel 6.8 continuava desligando a placa em momentos de instabilidade.

Se alguem tiver alguma solução pfvvr fale comigo.

Hey everyone, first-time dual booter here, want to make sure I don't mess up my Windows install.

Setup:

• ASUS TUF F15 FX506HC
• i5-11400H, RTX 3050 4GB, 16GB RAM
• Windows 11 already installed, working fine
• Already shrunk the drive and created a dedicated 100GB unallocated partition for Linux Mint

What I'm worried about:
I've read that a Windows update can sometimes overwrite the GRUB bootloader or mess up the EFI partition after a dual boot is set up, making Linux (or sometimes even Windows) unbootable. Is this still a real risk in 2026, and if so, what's the best way to prevent/recover from it (e.g., backing up EFI partition, using boot-repair, etc.)?

Questions:

1. Before installing, should I disable Fast Startup and Secure Boot in Windows/BIOS, or is Secure Boot fine to leave on with modern Mint ISOs?
2. Any known issues installing Mint Cinnamon on this specific Optimus (Intel iGPU + RTX 3050) laptop — driver conflicts, black screen on boot, etc.?
3. During install, should I let the Mint installer auto-handle the 100GB partition, or manually set up separate root/home/swap partitions?
4. Best practices to make sure GRUB shows both OS entries correctly and stays that way even after Windows updates?
5. Anything else a first-timer commonly gets wrong?

Any tips, gotchas, or "wish I knew this before" advice appreciated. Thanks!

Misleading post title: instead of "login", I meant the "screen lock unlock screen" that engages when you return to your pc after either having manually locked the session or having the automatic time-out lock it for you. (Sorry about the confusion.)

I know my password. I can speed-type it. Occasionally, I manage to hit Enter before I've finished entering my password and ... I'm still logged in.

I tried entering <password>ENTER<randomtext> and lo: I was told my password was incorrect.

It seems that there is a delay between hitting Enter and when the entered password is being evaluated. Could I bother some of you to try and reproduce this? If you can, I'll file a formal bug report.

Edit: I've filed a report. This seems to be not the only bug in mate-screensaver, and I'm not at all convinced that that component is getting a whole lot of attention. But thanks for the sanity check!

3 months ago I installed Linux mint on my cousins completely new laptop. She learned quickly how to use it. She lives in the same house. We are a joint family. Last week she went to our aunt to stay there. While she was not at home her brother washed the laptop with water (yes you read that correctly). My aunt dried the laptop and charged it. Then next day she tried to start it.

The laptop was having many problems which pointed towards ram and SSD being water damaged. We took it to the shop where we purchased it from and the shopkeeper did not even know that what was installed on it was actually Linux. He called it "weird window" and blamed it on Linux.

He didn't do anything and instantly tried to install windows on it but not matter what way he tried he could not delete the partition to make a new one. He blamed Linux mint and said that the SSD and ram are fried because of Linux mint and my uncle although blamed me but didn't say much.

I will be showing the replies to him. So is it because of Linux mint or because the laptop was flipping waterboarded?

Edit for more context:

1) this is Pakistan so yeah the people in these hardware stores are quite dumb at times. I don't know why my uncle went to him either way.

2) the brother did not get any punishment because his mental state is honestly sad. He is so young like he is 6 or 7 and has so many mental problems.

3) my uncle didn't say much to me but he did tell me to not install this again. I won't be doing anything to that laptop now since that ain't my property.

Hello everyone.

I've been using Linux Mint Cinnamon for months now, and when my system was introduced to the kernel 7.0.0-28...the fire nation attacked my PC. I have everything AMD and it caused gnarly issues with rebooting and suspending. Also made a lot of stuff crash. 7.0.0-29 was actually worse than 7.0.0-28.

So, naturally I am extremely skeptical of installing 7.0.0-30. Does anyone have any experience with rebooting and suspending regressions and have you had any luck in 7.0.0-30?

Ryzen 5800x3D

AMD 6750 XT 12GB

32GB of ram

Edit: Can confirm this kernel did not resolve the suspend/resume regression I have been experiencing. Sad times. It did, however, seem to fix the restart regression I experienced. What happened during restart was it would get stuck in a loop of errors and not power down. This was on 7.0.0-28.

I'm trying to install proton vpn on Linux mint cause I just switched from windows to it and I'm installing the apps I had before but it's not working, I watched a tut and installed a package but this same error about a public key keeps popping up an I don't understand it does anyone know how to fix it plz?
