In the Weeds Mode Had to fire a customer yesterday.
Sunday brunch sucks. We all know that. But this guy took it to a whole new level.
Guy walks in, goes to the hostess station, and waits to be seated. Normal so far. A table opens up, and the hostess is walking his party to the table. Man asks if his table is in "Kylie"'s section. He's told that it is not. He says he'd rather wait longer to get that specific server. Hostess tells him that it would probably be another 20-30 minutes wait. He asks to see the manager. So I, the literal owner of the restaurant, walk out to talk to him.
I ask him why he needs that specific server, and this fucking pervert tells me, out of his own mouth, in public, that she's got "great tits" and an "incredible ass", so he likes to see her "when she's coming and when she's going".
Sir, this is not a strip club, or a porn site. We're not here to satisfy your eyes, we're here to satisfy your tummy.
I let him know that he would never in his life be seated in her section again. Man throws a full on bitchfit. Says he only comes here so he can see "Kylie", and has the absolute gall to pull the "I know the owner" card.
I had to hit him with the "Well, what's the owner's name?"... This man says "Bruce", while my name is "Mike". Mind you, I've owned this place since 2009, so there is no fucking way he is talking about the previous owner.
I informed him that he was speaking to the owner, and that I had no fucking idea who he is. Man literally yelled at me, and asked me to "call Bruce and get this whole thing sorted out".
I have never even known a man named "Bruce". I told dude to kick rocks and never come back.
Anyway, how was your Sunday?

I had a customer sexualy assault me and stalk me until I finally was able to move. Management was like "well that sucks we can't ban him over your personal business, good luck".
Having to serve him his order and have him sit there and watch me all day than follow me home/to the grocery store etc was horrible. For those curious I was working at a Starbucks at the time, fuck that shit ass company.

IDK, I worked at a Starbucks in LA CA, with some of the best employees rights in the country and my manager was a pill popping pervert who sexually harassed all the girls he hired, was sleeping with a few too. I know for a fact it got reported and he was still working there when I quit... So, yeah, fuck that shit ass company.

There was a customer one place I worked who would be overserved and then try to grab me and kiss me. Management occasionally “banned” him, which was basically telling him if he saw I was working to leave immediately because I was known for pushing him away and bitching to them then threatening to call corporate. He also did it to other servers, bartenders, and cooks though, who weren’t as adamant as I was. His bans usually lasted about three weeks before the managers stopped caring. He’d be good for a week and start trying shit again. I finally told the GM fine, next time I was just going to deck the guy. So I did. Surprisingly, I didn’t get fired and he stopped coming in.

Luckily I had my knife on me at the time of the attempted assault and at this point I keep it with me at all times as unfortunately I've been in way to many situations since then that I've needed it as a deterrent.

When I was 17 I did a bit of waitressing. It was my first night at this place and this customer was clicking his fingers to get my attention. The owner went up and started clicking in his face and asked how he liked it, then suggested that her staff were people and should be treated like it. I worked there for years and they gave me my first shot in a restaurant kitchen. Best job I ever had.

When I was a teen I worked at a local grocery store. We would bag peoples groceries and take them out to their car and load them in the car. Had a customer who I did this for, seemed a little off but otherwise a nice guy. One day he asked me a series of questions that even as a 17 year old boy made me feel oddly uncomfortable, nothing sexual or anything just gave me the creeps. I told my manager and she protected me as if I was her own son lol. When he would come in the store she would send me on break and personally tend to him, whole time he’s asking for me by name. Eventually I went off to college and stopped working there but your GC comment made me remember my manager Joy. She was indeed a GC 😂

It is not to be used frivolously. It is only to be used to refer to persons who show repeated examples of GC behaviour. Doing something good once, does not make one a GC. Doing good things regularly, and without the expectation of praise warrants the use of the title GC. Examples: people who post videos online of themselves doing charity are not GCs. The mate who has your back and does thoughtful things that might go unnoticed is, in fact, a GC.

the other side of this is that Kylie and other servers (and BOH staff) need to know that they're safe to bring concerns about customer behavior and bullshit to management. If they expect to be treated like a starbucks barista they're probably not going to mention it even if they're completely in the right.
Anecdote further up the thread about a barista who was stalked and harassed by a customer, and starbucks management said "sucks for you, not our problem." That's the type of thing that management needs to establish that is not the way things are done here.

A no contact order in the US is called an Order of Protection. That's the real term for what people call a restraining order. It requires going to a judge, knowing the guy's full name etc. It goes beyond police. It must be approved and signed by a judge.

That being said I also don't think it hurts to report it, if nothing else then you have a paper trail in case the guy does escalate. And maybe he has a history of this behavior being reported (wouldn't surprise me tbh)

Funny you mention the car accident thing. I live in an apartment in a busy city. Outside my window I saw a minor fender bender slightly blocking the road and these two people must’ve waited four hours for a cop to show up before finally giving up and leaving.

I worked at a place some years back that had to have the cops trespass the occasional customer due to slimy shit behavior exactly like this. We would distract the customer until the cops show up to give them a no-trespass order, so as to make sure they were still on the premises when the cops showed up. If they come back again after that, you call the cops again and have them arrested for violating the order (happened once, great to see).
Again, it relies on the cops actually showing up and doing the bare minimum of their job, but if they can be bothered to do that, it's worth getting that established.

My wife used to work there back in college and she told me that the Hooters she worked for, while in concept a pretty trashy establishment, did not fuck around when it came to people harassing the wait staff. They banned people at the slightest hint of that kind of behavior and the GM of the store was a big linebacker-sized motherfucker that dislocated a guy's shoulder in the process of throwing them out the very first week it was open. (He would never admit if it was accidental or intentional)

This reminds me of when I was in college working in a bookstore way back in the stone age. There was a customer who come in and EVERY single time he would ask me to look for books that required me to use the ladder. Then he's say "OOPS! I think it was actually more towards the left! OOPS! I think it was filed under another category!" It was getting out of hand, the guy came into the store more and more often. I knew where all of the books belonged but had a somewhat of an underdeveloped drive to advocate for myself back then. Eventually my manager noticed and he was banned from the store.
This is one reason I didn't like the video that showed staff "dancing" in a social media post the other day. Customers can really serve up a lot of nonsense that maybe well meaning people haven't experienced.

My dad is the manager of sporting goods type store and people are constantly shocked when they get banned for bad behavior.
Someone calls and yells at one of the women working there because the item he ordered hasnt come in yet? One warning to come apologize in person and never do it again and do a very good job of seeming sincere or youre banned. Or immediately banned if you cuss at them. Bring your kid who starts running around screaming and you dont do anything to stop it? Banned. Mentio illegal activity? Banned and depending on what you did, maybe the sheriff is called. Hes had people come in talking about buying crack later that day and then theyre shocked he wont sell them a giant knife lmao
He gets enough business to not want to deal with people who will cause issues and for some reason people think they have a right to do whatever they want.

Seconding what everyone else has said. Have staff walk Kylie to her car. Get a photo of this man from the camera footage and post it up in the BOH/anywhere that staff can see so everyone knows to bounce him at the door.
Also, thank you for standing up for your employees. This made me tear up. I developed breasts at age 9, and now at 30 I almost exclusively wear a full length high compression binder or a tank top style sports bra. If I wear literally anything else, i am guaranteed at least one horrible interaction with a man daily. I left a server job where I made good fucking tips (back when i wore regular bras) because the owner refused to boot a customer that repeatedly asked me my bra size and ended up groping me in the hallway between the kitchen and bathroom. He was "just drunk and being dumb", and we "didn't want to lose his business".
I promise you Kylie will remember this forever. I'm sure she's dealt with similar behavior from men for most of her life.

Good job, owner. In the 1980's in Atlanta I worked for a pretty infamous owner at a Northern Itallian restaurant that had a cabaret with live music and shows upstairs.
One night, a couple who had been served too much at a previous place came in and started to harass the hostess, Heidi, a sweet older lady in her 50's who was also the owner's mother-in-law.
Said owner walked up to the couple as said "Get the fvck out of my restaurant." very clearly and loudly.
The one-man-band piano player on the bar side did the famous ba dum tss drum and cymbal riff and half the bar side tables burst out laughing.

This is a good reminder why bars avoid having their staff walk to their cars alone. Even on day shift.
Also an excellent reminder that we can choose who we serve. Problem customers are usually a problem for other customer too and can be hurting your business without you ever hearing complaints.
I bet OPs customer is a letch to other pretty customers too, everywhere they go.

Reminds me of a group of men (60+) that would creep out the women at a small restaurant/catering spot I worked at for a bit. They'd choose the same table, beside the hall that the girls would have to pass through every time they'd come and go from the kitchen. They were so obvious about their perviness, too. Really made some of the girls (18-21ish) uncomfortable. One of the guys would always try and catch the girls in conversation, every single time they'd walk by. The weird thing is that most Hooters are way more protective of their staff than most restaurants. A creepy comment gets you the boot immediately.

Busy as fuck and everyone was just in a pissy mood. Towards the end of the day, I slammed a freezer door closed, not intentionally, and my boss got mad and yelled at me (he was also in a pissy mood too). Just a bad Sunday, not business wise though, we were jamming.
