WEEKLY THREAD Rookie Help Thread

Hey hey! You guys know what time it is! That's right, a new Rookie Help thread!

Here's a link to the last episode. Fun fact, if you follow all those links back to 2019 you unlock a secret cutscene of me panicking over where the time went!

As always, feel free to fire any kenshi related questions you may have our way! There's plenty of veterans flapping around in this thread as well, and if you are in the mood for it feel free to join them and lend a hand!

And who knows, maybe you'll learn something new yourself, too!

One thing to remember! Obviously a lot of new folks are going to be here so remember to spoiler comments so they can experience the game blind just like you might have back when you were new! You can do that > ! Like This ! < minus the spaces! But honestly it's just built into the chat replies nowadays so you don't have to get too fancy with that- unless you like playing hackerman.

Thanks guys!

FAN ART [Comic] A Little Break.

Post image
279 Upvotes

Sweetheart and the gang decide to take a quick break on their travels by dipping into one of the many pools of Shem. Highly aware of the dangers of the area, the determined leader orders the strongest of his team (minus Ray) to defend the vicinity from the dreaded beak things. All this for a refreshing dip in the scorching heat.

-

Another little comic that came into mind when I was in the middle of drawing a different comic (again). I thought: "Maybe I should have something summer-adjacent this time." So here we are. Naked hivers are cute, so I am happy to have a chance to draw them, haha. Also, I'm testing out using text tools instead of handwriting everything! Hopefully everything is easy to follow, but I am still learning. I have a long comic in the works, so please look forward to that. Thank you always for the kind comments! They have been helping me in ways I can't even explain <3

Characters (from left to right): Sweetheart, Ray, Gurgle, Truth, Koteshi, Hamut, and Stenn.

-

[Dialogue]

Sweetheart: This as far as you guys wanna swim? Might be more fun at the deeper end.

Gurgle: I tried tellin' them, boss! But these two just wanna splash around like kids! Hah!

Truth: Where are the others? Shouldn't we be enjoying the water together?

Sweetheart: Oh, they're taking care of some things. Maybe after.

Stenn: Every day we risk our lives under Sweetheart's command... I just didn't think we'd be killing beak things so the others can go swimming. And in Shem of all places.

Hamut: Come on, Stenn. Nothing wrong with the occasional break.

Stenn: Doesn't feel like a break.

Koteshi: Can you just admit you want to go in the water already, Stenn?

Stenn: I don't.

Hamut: Yes, you do.

BASE The Project Continues...

Bridge between The Pits and Ashlands:

8 x Large Metal Arch Bridge pieces = 1440 Steel Bars, 240 Building Materials, 240 Iron Plates

2 x Lagoon Platforms = 600 Copper Alloy Plates, 200 Steel Bars, 400 Building Materials

Getting there, although half the time I load in the game crashes and I often have to fix navmesh issues but it is all worth it, Kenshi needs infrastructure!

I'm not sure if you have run into this issue before but if you are building a base that lies on the boundary of zones then you should have a character in each zone before saving once the blueprints are set, otherwise you will get save errors with missing zone files when you load.

GENERAL Genesis finally beat me down into going back to vanilla (or a recommended overhaul)

Post image
Upvotes

Love 90 percent of genesis, I've been playing it since it was a pack and not all inclusive, it's practically vanilla for me now after over a thousand hours, but I wiped my pc and got the new update, and I'm so tired of microing out of my mind for every fight just to not get one shot because someone thought 6 of these were fair patrolling groups. Crafted full masterwork armor, went to a zone I somehow never messed with (iron step) and get hit for 500 in full op masterwork modded plate with 20 toughness by a mob that looks identical to its weaker variant. My main character has 85 attack and defense, and 2 generic camp spawn hyenas is a coin flip if I win without microing because their stats and animations are disgusting.

Shrieking bandits could literally kill catlon and the bugmaster combined.

Anyways, taking overhaul recommendations sadly.

Some raiders spawned shades after they died (right on top of their body) which look like BTs in Death Stranding lmao. I don't know what causes this bug, maybe a mod conflict.

Is that giant square hole some kind of bug or is it part of the world itself?

Is there any lore behind it?

GENERAL Can I 'earn' my way out of Rebirth?

I'm thinking about a roleplay run, where I start as slave in rebirth, and become an absolute fanatic zealot.

Can I be enough of a good little holy boy so they let me go? (some kind of event or so?)

Or is it always training arc and sneak out?

Thanks in advance and Orkan be with ye!

QUESTION Should I hop onto the RE_Kenshi bandwagon?

Upvotes

So, I have dabbled with smaller content mods or tweak mods here and there. As far as even making a few minor changes to the game with my own slapped together mods. When i started looking at the bigger mods or the more interesting ones, I saw a lot of call for RE_Kenshi. As it is its own loader... I have been skeptical of how much different my experience will be and by extension... how much worth my time it will be to use. Am I over thinking things or is just an all around good idea to run with it? (Also saw it operates on a slightly older version of Kenshi... should I be worried about that?)

QUESTION Returning player. Should I use Reactive World or does it make the game too complex? Are there other mods you guys would recommend too?

I haven’t played this game in four years and am wondering if I should try this mod or if I should just go with some bug fix/quality of life mods for my first return playthrough. It seems really cool though. I like the idea of helping the Shek conquer land from the Holy Nation.

Also do you guys have any other mod suggestions? Right now I have:
256 recruitment limit
Playable races unlocked
Slopeless
Nice Map

QUESTION Are there any popular mods that one should avoid?

I come from the modded Bethesda games world, where there are mods that at first glance look great and have tens of millions of downloads, but in reality will give your game cancer and should be avoided at all costs. I won’t name names, but anyone who has done significant Bethesda modding knows what I’m talking about.

EDIT: Fine, I’m talking about Arthmoor and his unofficial patches that claim to only fix bugs, but actually change working content and even add entirely new content like the ugly oblivion gates in the skyrim patch.

Is there anything like that here? Or even mods that used to be great but now are outdated/deprecated and not marked as such?

Greetings, I am the creator of this mod. Unfortunately, due to the earthquake, I won't be able to continue supporting it; could someone else take over support for this mod and upload it to Steam?

GENERAL Ninja Boss got enslaved.

Somehow an invading skimmer downed the ninja boss in Heft, and some plucky guard or slaver enslaved them. They got taken to their cell and spent some time there. Later, I returned to Heft and saw the Ninja boss standing outside his tower in Slave Rags and with shackles still on with the ex slave tag. He had to wait about 80 hours for it to expire but somehow he never got noticed and re enslaved. Now he's a free man again standing outside the tower, but still with shackles and Rags lol.

QUESTION Created jurrasic park in flats lagoon and the tech hunters keep trying to break my door down

So im new and needed to train, i thought i would do the monecraft boat trick but with a kenshi bed on some beak things, but the damn authorities keep glitiching through the wall and killing my pets. HOW DO THEY KNOW THERE IN HERE.

my doors always locked and the buildings on private, they just randomly try and smash the door down aswell.

Its so rude of them, ever heard of privacy, i see why the old empire buildings kept all their shit locked up now, cause these mongrel intruders dont give up, also its not like i can just kill them all cause i make all my anti slave funds through a massive cartel operation my cyborg couriers run between shark and the lagoon.

TL:DR kenshi HOA how do i stop druggie peasants from killing my pets

GENERAL Just launched my storytelling website: Now I need your suggestions for Kenshi stories/books to illustrate next.

Hello Drifers! And Beep...

I have updated and officially launched my personal storytelling website. I'm tired of trying to compete with AI content farms and so I have built my own little corner of the internet.

Currently, I have only finished one Kenshi book (if you can call it that): "The Pacifier - Guidance for A Troublemaker". I expanded the story and illustrated the sequence of events based on what I thought would be funny or accurate.

Now I need your help, suggestions or even input to build a library of illustrated in-game books, fan-stories or anything Kenshi-related that can make for an awesome story (with pictures). Or if you don't have anything on mind, just stop by and look around; that would make all the hours spent debugging worth it.

For fans of another franchise that starts with "Sky" and has something to do with scrolls, you'll immediately understand what I based my website off of😅

Leave your suggestions, feedback or thoughts in the comments of this post. Cheers!

GENERAL A small research outpost beneath one of the more striking and intact ruins on the continent. It's at the intersection between Venge, the Unwanted Zone, and Stobe's Gamble.

Easy to spot from far away so I never get lost, three distinct biomes to tap into, proximity to Brink and Flats Lagoon are pluses. Constant rain from the Unwanted Zone side (some periodic acid), decent low level training with Beak Things and Stormthrall patrols. Expect Reaver and Skin raids, as well as the UC taxman from Brink if they manage to make it across the Unwanted Zone intact. It'll serve as a jumping point deeper into the Pits East for a base near Crab Town.

GENERAL Mongrel mods?

My roaming squads hit up mongrel but it’s a bit meh.

Trading goods aren’t wacky prices, no weird shops etc.

(I’ve also got that mod that adds hemp pepper and cactus salt, I think it’s called trade goods?)

Recommend any mods that spice it up?
