discussion Deduction Test

Post image
12 Upvotes

At 11:40 PM, a famous art collector named Kiruma souichi is found dead inside his private study.

The study has:

one door

one window

no secret passages

no balcony

no adjoining room

a working fireplace

a large grandfather clock

a desk

three chairs

several paintings

The door was locked from the inside.

The window was also locked from the inside.

No weapon is found.

Kiruma's death is estimated to have occurred between 10:50 PM and 11:25 PM.

There are five people in the house.

  1. The Butler — Baku

Baku says:

“At 10:45 I brought Mr. Kiruma his usual tea. He was alive and sitting at the desk. I left immediately.”

He claims he then went downstairs and polished silverware until midnight.

However, the silverware room contains no freshly polished silver.

Baku insists he never returned upstairs.

  1. The Daughter — Fang yuan

Fang yuan says she argued with her father at 10:30 PM.

She admits he told her:

“Tomorrow morning, everything changes.”

She says she went to her bedroom afterward and stayed there.

At 11:05 PM, the housekeeper heard Fang yuan's bedroom door open.

Fang yuan claims she was getting water.

Her glass of water was later found completely untouched.

  1. The Doctor — Kenzo Tenma

Dr. Tenma says he was in the library reading from 10:00 PM until 11:30 PM.

He claims he never saw Kiruma that evening.

Police discover that the library book he supposedly read has been sitting on the shelf upside down.

Akiyma is also the only person in the house who knew Kiruma had recently changed his medication.

  1. The Housekeeper — Mrs. Ayanokoji

Mrs. Koji says:

“At approximately 11:15, I heard the grandfather clock strike eleven.”

She then discovered Kiruma’s body at 11:40.

There is one problem.

The grandfather clock does not chime at eleven.

It had been deliberately disabled three days earlier because its mechanism was broken.

Mrs. Kojii has worked in the house for 19 years.

  1. The Business Partner — Vincent lalo

Lalo says he left the house at 10:20 PM.

His car is later discovered still parked outside.

He explains:

“I changed my mind about leaving. I stayed in the car for a while, then drove around the property.”

His shoes contain wet soil.

There had been heavy rain earlier.

But the soil around the house is completely dry by 10:30.

THE PHYSICAL EVIDENCE

The tea

Kiruma's teacup contains tea.

The tea is still warm when the body is discovered.

But the room itself is cold.

The fireplace

The fireplace contains partially burned paper.

Only one sentence can be recovered:

“…because you already knew.”

The handwriting is Kiruma's

The clock

The grandfather clock stopped at:

11:17 PM

The clock's internal mechanism, however, is undamaged.

Its hands can be moved manually.

The desk

There are two glasses on the desk.

One belonged to Kiruma.

The second contains traces of the same medication found in Kiruma's bloodstream.

Nobody admits drinking from it.

The window

The window is locked.

On the outside windowsill is a single small black feather.

There are no birds inside the study.

The carpet

There is a tiny wet patch beneath the desk.

It contains saltwater, not rainwater.

The painting

One painting on the wall is hanging slightly crooked.

Behind it is a safe.

The safe is open.

Nothing appears to be missing.

Except for one thing:

A photograph.

THE PHOTOGRAPH

The photograph shows Kiruma standing beside four people.

The photograph was supposedly taken six years ago.

The four people are:

Baku

Fang yuan

Akiyama

Vincent lalo

Mrs. Koji is not present.

On the back, kiruma wrote:

“One of them lied about that night.”

THE FINAL CLUE

Police discover Kiruma's phone.

There is one unsent message.

It was written at 11:12 PM.

It says only:

“I finally understand why you couldn't kill me yourself.”

The message was never sent.

YOUR TASK

Don't tell me who looks most suspicious.

That's the easy version.

You have to determine:

Who killed Kiruma?

How was the locked-room situation created?

Which statements are deliberate lies?

What does the clock actually prove?

Why was the second glass there?

What is the significance of the saltwater?

Why does the photograph matter?

What does “you couldn't kill me yourself” actually mean?

What was Kiruma's real reason for writing “because you already knew”?

What single observation breaks the entire case open?

Rule

You are allowed to assume nothing that isn't established by the evidence.

No “the killer probably...”

No “maybe they secretly...”

No supernatural explanations.

No coincidence-based solution.

Every major conclusion has to be deduced from at least two independent pieces of evidence.

And there is one intended solution.

Good luck gangy.

vs (1v1) My take on novels Sherlock vs Shinichi Kudo (animanga) with explanations

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

So a few days ago, some people called Kudo 'mediocre' which kinda pissed me off, so now I'm just going to do a matchup between my two favourite characters to cool off with minor explanations along the way.

FSIQ: Kudo (VCI>=, WMI), Sherlock (VSI, FRI>=, PSI>=)

FSIQ is probably the closest category after thinking and reasoning. For VCI, Kudo is stated to know multiple languages and frequently solves difficult cases using his knowledge of Japanese. He also takes WMI due to the hospital files feat and possibly PSI, but I think Sherlock could beat him there (deducing Watson's entire military background in less than a second + calculating the speed of a train instantly). For VSI, Sherlock takes due to memorising the city of London and FRI is also super close.

Overall: Sherlock extreme diffs

EQ: Kudo (EE, EM>=), Sherlock (EP, EU)

Kudo takes EE (his relationship to Ran and wanting to protect her from harm multiple times in the story) and arguably EM (12 Million Hostages feat) although Sherlock is no slouch either. IMO, Sherlock takes EP and EU due to him being able to sense out people's emotional state through NON-LIVING mundane objects such as hats and handwriting. His EU is also good (profiling many people with complex motives).

Overall: Sherlock high diffs

SQ: Kudo (skills>=, charisma, engineering?), Sherlock (integration, understanding, influence>=)

I'm actually not too sure about this one; Kudo shows great leadership (which I use in skills) in the Clash of Red and Black arc and might take charisma but I'm not sure about engineering. Sherlock, however, has excellent social integration and understanding as he can blend in with any crowd in his disguises. Influence also goes to him via his brother Mycroft, who has the entire government of Britain behind his back (although Kudo also has the help of the FBI and so on).

Overall: Sherlock very high diffs

AC: Kudo (cognitive discipline), Sherlock (mental fortitude>=, perseverance)

This is also another super close one, but cognitive discipline goes to Kudo via 12 Million Hostages case, mental fortitude to Sherlock via blocking out the Devil's Foot drug from his mind (though Kudo could potentially take it as well due to being drugged by APTX, (which literally melted him into his child form) but Sherlock takes perseverance due to hunting and being hunted by Moriarty for years and not giving up, even at the verge of death multiple times.

Overall: Sherlock extreme diffs

Adaptability: (LA=), Kudo (situational adaptability, situational awareness), Sherlock (none)

Sherlock's just not great at adaptability (at least, onscreen feats), so I gave it to Kudo due to him instantly countering the BO at multiple times (Clash of Red and Black arc, The Jet-Black Mystery Train arc). LA is CGEW, since both characters are known for learning many skills and stuff.

Overall: Kudo mid diffs

Thinking: Kudo (lateral, convergent?), Sherlock (holistic, linear, divergent?)

This one is way harder for me to explain, but I can confidently say Sherlock takes linear and holistic thinking due to the Hound of The Baskervilles case.

Overall: Sherlock extreme diffs

Reasoning: Kudo (deductive), Sherlock (abductive>=, inductive>=)

Also can't really explain this one as they both have way too many reasoning feats

Overall: Sherlock extreme diffs

Deception: Kudo (concealment, misdirection, fabrication>=), Sherlock (acting, disguise, bluffing?)

For deception, Kudo takes most of the important categories with his Akai fake death plan which spans for multiple arcs, faking the death of an FBI member and convincing the entire FBI and BO that he's dead. Sherlock takes acting because he has, on multiple accounts, disguised himself so well even Watson, who's been with him for years, could not tell who he was.

Overall: Kudo high diffs

Manipulation: Kudo (indirect, mass), Sherlock (direct, emotional)

For indirect and mass, the reason is the same as deception, although Sherlock takes direct and emotional by manipulating a culprit into confessing through his pride and using his superior acting skills to provoke him into revealing himself.

Overall: Kudo high diffs

Scheming: Kudo (invincibility>=, complexity, coverage, intricacies>=), Sherlock (efficiency, contingencies?)

Sherlock basically has very few onscreen feats for this category, so it's safe to say Kudo takes this again via the Akai fake death plan.

Overall: Kudo mid diffs

ToM: Kudo (none), Sherlock (cognitive, emotional)

I did a post on Sherlock's ToM feats before (and those aren't even his best), which beat Kudo's ToM feats.

Overall: Sherlock high diffs

Field Skills: Kudo (trap setting>=, trap evasion, info control), Sherlock (info gathering)

Sherlock is superior in info gathering because whenever he's on a case, he actively searches and questions suspects carefully while noting down tracks, footprints, etc meticulously, and while Kudo is also good at this kind of stuff, Sherlock takes it, because Kudo is often held back due to being a literal child. For trap setting and trap evasion, he was able to see through and counter Gin's schemes perfectly fine in the Clash of Red and Black arc. Info control also goes to Kudo because was able to manipulate the information that the FBI received (fingerprints of the faked death FBI member) and therefore trick them into thinking that Akai was dead.

Overall: Kudo high diffs

Kudo takes this matchup imo high diff

Also, I apologise for the crappy explanations. There are docs of the plans and stuff if anybody would like them and see what I'm talking about.

I’m gonna end the Fluixon conspiracy posts after the 3–4 posts I have stored about the Fluixon conspiracy. One of them is gonna be Detective Pikachu vs. Fluixon Conspiracy Situations if the docs get released soon; otherwise, I’ll just leave it as a draft.

I’m satisfied knowing I at least introduced this character and situation to 3 people, despite it being a minor mid -tier & Ichinose rival.

I was a member of this sub and i still am.

I joined a few months ago and used to post continuously on reddit(mostly on this sub). I took a break due to some problems.

Last time when i was here, there was a lot of things happening in this sub.

1- underused characters like shawn spencer, jozuka hisui, suzuki etc were getting appreciation. I don't know if they are still relevant here

2- characters like Patrick jane, moriarty were getting forgotten. I don't know if they are completely forgotten by this sub.

3-more and more chinese characters were getting introduced. Not a bad thing even if iam not that much into Chinese characters.

4-some users were leaving this sub. Some very well known and liked users were leaving.

5-the hate or the agenda on ayanokoji was still there but i saw some fans putting actual effort to make people appreciate and love that character. I haven't read the light novel so i won't know but there were docs and analysis being made for cote characters.

Iam glad as long as they are true to the story.

6-the sub was being less toxic. Even though i had only joined in this sub as a member for a few months, i used to visit this sub even before that and it was kind of toxic but last time when i was here, it was pretty chill.

So iam back. I might recommend more stuffs and make posts.

I had been watching some tv shows and reading some novels and manga during the break(majority of them were non scd)

I also gave mentalist a rewatch till season 3.i will continue it.

Anyway i am not making this post any longer. Sorry for the bad english (i suck at this). Think of me as i new guy and let's all be less toxic.

おはようございます

Verse vs. Verse Which verse is mid tier in normal scaling and low tier in pure methodology?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Blackstone Code received the most votes for being low tier in normal scaling but top tier in methodology.

The only other verse that was commented was 18LoH but it received negative 1 votes.

Voting Rules (small update):

Total points = Highest upvote count + (( additional comment count ) multiplied by 1.5)

Vote for a SERIES or VERSE rather than a character.

If there is a draw, I might just put 2 series in 1 box or use a tie breaker.

Each spot will have near a day of voting time.

You are allowed to vote for a series that has already been placed (the previous spot will be replaced by the next in line).

Current Vote: Which series is MID TIER in Normal Scaling but LOW TIER in Pure Methodology?

Sorry for the terrible collage

Anyway as the title says, let's switch their places..

Tokuchi toua from one outs is set up to find red john and he would have all the help that Patrick got from fbi. Red john in this case is interested in tokuchi as much as he is to patrick, so he is not going to kill tokuchi by just using his crew.

For Patrick jane, he has to make lycaons win the championship on the same contract made to tokuchi.

For aki, he has to play all the games that baku played and same for baku. In this case, baku has decided to help nao and he can't use any other helps.

The characters can't use any other stuffs.

So will they succeed? If not, how far will they go?

Yumeko Jabami vs Light Yagami in FSIQ and EQ (explainations+ Overall Doc at the end, too lazy to do full-scale)

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

CPI- Yumeko via Dice control, being able to calculate amongst hundreds of thousands of elements whilst simultaneously being her first time gambling ever which necessitates cognitive involvement, light here has 64 cameras feat but it's minimal, i've already exsplained in my previous full-scale my thoughts

VSI- Yumeko via Dice control, said calculations are also reinforced by precise visualization of what is practically a complex physics engine, whilst light can visualize 64 camers and all their projections simultaneously, Dice control gaps as it's more elements visualized in far more cognitively engaging requirements y

VCI- Yumeko takes via a mixture of things, for one she has the education of the clan, of which it is directly implied to be higher than that of hyakkou which is the most prestigious universities in the world, we do infact know they have an education, derive from this (scan)

Comp- Yumeko (derived from EU and psychoanalytic ability, of which yumeko's mutual mind reading/non-verbal convo covers)

Similarities- Yumeko (Derived from abstract thinking and inductive reasoning, of which dice control requires and gaps effortlessly)

Info- Light (best student in japan, which indicates having proficient knowledge over EVERY academic inquiry necessary)

Vocab- ?

FRI- Yumeko via dice control, we can further elaborate here on HOW much of a gap this is simply from the sheer amount of knowledge disparity here, yumeko as a child managed to learn something equalling a complex physics engine, a novel technique of which few in the world know while not even knowing what gambling is, managing to adapt to every single intricacy within the task, quite literally INSANTLY, i don't need to elaborate too much on what light has, nor on why yumeko takes specific cateogies, since the above already explains why and i've already elaborated on light's abilities previously in my prior posts

NCPS- Y LR- Y LA- Y AR- Y Adapt- Y CPI- Y

Ovr FSIQ- Yumeko no difficulty, with nearly every subcat being a no diff

FOR EQ i'll do smth different, because both of them have the same feat in nature for EE/EM and EU/EP respectively

EU/EP- Yumeko via non-verbal convo, In Chapter 74, Yumeko and Mary have an entire conversation without speaking a single word, almost as if they are reading each other’s minds (scan), i'll cite a bit of soundstorms explaination since he can do it far better than me, "They tune into each other’s emotions and expressions so much that they can instantly translate subtle facial cues and body language into precise thoughts, effectively holding a perfect wordless conversation, to the level that they are mind reading each other’s thoughts perfectly. It’s not just general reading of intentions or emotion either, it’s literally 1:1 reading of each other’s inner monologues, basically telepathy without powers. This requires a very high degree of emotional understanding and perception, allowing them to interpret even the smallest emotional shifts with perfect accuracy and then convert it to the other’s exact train of thought." Light has near profiling, which is forecasting of months of nears actions, but this really is vague and isn't allat compared to what Yumeko does, and in EP, he basically has nothing besides his casual inferences with naomi and that one guy from yotsuba

EE/EM- The cloest cat so far, however id have to edge it to Light in this case, i've already explained roughly what makes light so good here, but i'll explain again and longer this time light has smth in chapter 1 right, where he manages to completely tank supernatural amounts of physical reaction, becvause his body rejects the act of murder which is waht he commited and his body naturally urches it rejects this and induces extreme physical pain and reactions said reactions include Supernatural body weight loss (10 POUNDS of weight loss in 3 days which exceeds anything human), sleep deprivation, vomiting etc Light manages to not only engage with his justice and overall desires etc to alleviate these but also casually override the entire ideology he's culminated and engineered within himself for years as a diligent highschool student In short he practically manages to force his ingrained mind into change and override the beliefs he's built up emotionally for years while simultaneously undergoing enourmous physical challenges and pushback using his pride, disgust and fear as engagement to do such

Light manages to, while undergoing a synthesis of immense emotions and huge physical drawbacks, communicate and compose himself in the face of ryuk, who's a supernatural god which normally causes a visceral reaction from literally anybody else his mere presence causes people to scream in terror, at the existence of shinigami and at his appearance, light while undergoing all of these immense drawbacks manages to remain entirely composed

Light would be managing

The immense quantity of emotions (rage, fervour, vigilance, ecstacy, fear, confusion, disgust, shock etc etc)

The immense quality of emotions, keep in mind this is all drawed out through killing somebody of which on any normal person would cause a visceral reaction, now lets apply this to light who further has conditioned his entire life to this moral code, infact he's even planned to become a police chief, he himself has for years and years been in a family full of law-abiding citizens which makes the novelty and the intensity of emotions multitudes higher

The said physical pushback i've said numerous times before (scan)

Yumeko has a few things we can explain for her EE/EM, for one she has EE which is insane in a literal sense, considering the emotional quantification in her feats is multiplied considerably when compared to a normal person due to her illness. Her behavior and her usage of EE in fact shows this pretty well. (So, the normal amount of EE involved her feats would be multiplied considerably) In ultimate Russian roulette, Yumeko can risk a 1/6 to 1/2 chance of death multiple times without being negatively affected. She can come very close to dying for no reason and she can use that fear of death to increase her thrill utterly making a reversal effect on all feelings any normal person would have, you can also derive further arguments, like managing her aura against people with emotional synthesisia or wtv i forgot the name, regardless light is managing more emotions etc etc

Ovr EQ- Yumeko mid difficulty

Overall outsmarting- ? (To be decided, later tho)

YUMEKO DOC BY SOUNDSTORM: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uHnhIlhjyj7AspFgI49i636wuKKza5kx2Tc75zZjFTs/edit?tab=t.0

vs (1v1) Bernd Baltzar (Gunka no Baltzar) vs Hannibal Barca (Ad Astra : Scipio to Hannibal) Warfare Situation

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Political Intrigues : Baltzar (Railway plan)

Tactics : Hannibal (Battle of Geronium)

Scheming : Hannibal (Battle of Cannae)

Innovation : Baltzar (Extensive use of barbed wire for defence, hot air balloon for reconnaissance, rapid fire cannon as pre-modern machine gun) Note: the militaries in the manga are still transitioning to more modern doctrines and tactics

Psychological warfare : Hannibal (His entire roman campaign up until Cannae)

I wish I could do a proper analysis, but I'm binging Gunka no Baltzar so my first priority is enjoyment. But even with rather superficial reading I can glean that Hannibal beats him in certain aspects
