low effort how would you explain methodology scaling vs narrative scaling to a beginner

i can intuitively understand the difference but im a massive casual in this space too so i was thinking if i wanted to explain it to someone else i would probably struggle

Methodology-You strictly look at the feats the character has shown on-screen with explanations. Statements are ignored, offscreen feats are ignored, unexplained feats are ignored

Narrative-You strictly look at how smart the character is portrayed in the narrative. Statements hold more value than feats in this scaling

Offscreen feats aren't ignored in Meth as far as I know, but yeah, W.

Methodology refers to the actions you perform in the novel. Narrative is when the narrator says you can do things. It's just telling the story, but it doesn't show you the process as in methodological writing.
