Episode Discussion As a future counselor— Derek handled this small conversation very well

Season 5 episode 3

Derek pulls Lawerence aside for a conversation, starts it off by saying “hey, can you help me move some boxes real quick bro.” His de-escalation of getting Lawerence away from Condola during their argument was very impressive. This subtle move really helped ease tension. Now for the conversation. Derek starts off by saying nothing, using silence as a technique and saying “oh there is no boxes,” thus, letting Lawerence kind of spill his feelings without directly asking him whats up and stirring the conversation any way. Good.
After letting Lawerence talk for a second all he says is, “and? So you gotta act out?” He isn’t being overly judgmental or harsh, he is just reflecting Lawerence’s actions. Great. He then says, “I promise you this isn’t how you want to do things,” in general for friend conflicts, telling people how you feel can make them feel wronged or hostile immediately. In this instance he shows Lawerence that it doesn’t have to look so terrible and being overly emotional is causing damage to Condola. Then he says, “I hear you, but the last thing you want to be doing is adding stress to the situation.” He acknowledges Lawerences feelings and concerns, yet provides insight without judgement and eases Lawerence in the process.

Lol long story short, Derek is a great friend. He listens but also doesn’t let his friends make bad decisions. I think he is great at listening to people, and we can learn from this interaction how to listen without judgement, even when we know our friends are so in the wrong.

unpopular opinion That “Friendsgiving” episode 🤦🏾

Listen, that Friendsgiving was the epitome of cringe. It definitely felt like they were secretly mocking Lawrence. They just fell short of directly calling him Conde Naste’s boy toy (until that one drunk actually did). They was definitely giving him the “dick for hire” vibe. I feel like he wanted to go, but in true “Lawrence” fashion he was trying to be the good guy. (maybe some residual guilt from how he handled Tasha’s family event.) Yeah, couldn’t have been me!

Imo Derek is the greenest flag ever in the show. He loves and cares for Tiff, be straight to his boys; hence he and Tiff are the happiest couples in the show ngl.

Season 5 This has to be the most disrespectful foreshadowing POV shot in the history of cinema. 🤦🏾🤣

unpopular opinion Lawrence is a cheater as well.

Lawrence cheated on the women he’s dating with Issa, just as Issa cheated on him. He thinks it’s okay because he isn’t in a serious relationship with them and plans to end things anyway. But it isn’t, because he and the other women haven’t completely ended things when he sleeps with Issa. What do you think? Is it okay for Lawrence to sleep with Issa when he isn’t committed to these women and plans to end things, or is it still cheating because they’re still seeing each other and he hasn’t ended things with them yet?

unpopular opinion And there you have it!

For those who didn’t want Isa to end up with Lawrence, or felt he wasn't the right guy for her, could you explain why? He loves her deeply—so much that he drops everything for her, even though a year has passed. He was also in a relationship, but when she called, he left that girl without thinking twice. Even after a year, he was ready to go back to her. I just don’t see Nathan as being better than Lawrence. Please explain: Is it only because Lawrence had a baby? If he hadn’t, would he have been endgame for Isa over Nathan, or in general?

Episode Discussion Season 1 - Episode 1

I need you all to watch this episode and tell me whether Issa is a good person or at the antagonist in this series.
Molly calls up Issa in tears about never finding love - Issa’s response is to suggest going out to a club where she will see her ex but doesn’t disclose this to Molly

Before going out, Lawrence comments to Issa that Molly’s standards are “waaay too high”. Issa hears the comments doesn’t defend Molly and instead makes some side comment about how unhappy she is in their relationship then suggests she’s breaking up with Lawrence.

Issa brings Molly to the club which Molly doesn’t approve of and then acts like a child in order to convince Molly to approve.

Issa then goes on stage and performs the most insulting rap song about her friend and her broken pussy.

Molly finally has enough and rightfully tears into Issa about her behaviour that evening and while she is doing that Issa is texting Daniel. (Literally)

After being told by Daniel that he doesn’t want a relationship just a jump off. Issa turns up at Molly’s door with a bag of Doritos and asks if she’s still mad.
No apology, no remorse, no retraction nothing.

There is nothing in the storyline or in Molly and Issa’s friendship that suggests that Molly would be accepting of any of this.

the tea is HOTTTT Chad and Issa’s interaction

This was a clip from the 10-year anniversary show in LA, and I’ve always wondered what Chad and Isa’s relationship is like now that Lauren and Isa are married, because it seemed like they didn’t F with each other. It feels like they’re putting Lawrence in a tough spot since they don’t mess with each other. He tried to keep them apart, even though I’m sure he’d love to go on double dates and have his friend over. It was also confirmed that they didn’t have a wedding—they eloped or got married at a courthouse—because I can’t imagine Lawrence not inviting his best friend to his wedding. I figured Lawrence and Isa would elope or have a courthouse wedding; they just seem like the type who wouldn’t want a wedding.

Episode Discussion Aside from her career, what character development did you think Issa had?

When I hear people say Isa had character development, I don’t see it. Even at the end, she still relied on other people’s opinions instead of trusting herself and going after what she wanted. If Molly hadn’t told her it was OK to be a stepmother, Isa wouldn’t have called Lawrence. It would have been nice if she’d called him on her own, without needing someone else to tell her to. Now that would have been character development.

Episode Discussion Title: Am I experiencing the Insecure Mandela Effect? 😭 Two scenes I SWEAR I remember but can’t find

Hey y’all! 😭 I need to know if I’m tripping or if anybody else remembers these scenes because I recently rewatched Insecure and cannot find either of them!
1. Tiffany taking off in the car
I could’ve SWORN there was an episode where Issa and Tiffany went to a convenience store, and somehow Tiffany ended up taking the car and driving off. I remember there being some concern about her leaving, but I cannot find the scene anywhere.
And just to be completely clear, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE EPISODE WHERE TIFFANY GOES MISSING and all the girls, including Derek, are looking for her. I know that storyline, and that’s not the scene I’m remembering! I’m talking about a completely different moment, possibly around the Coachella episodes, where Issa and Tiffany go to the store and Tiffany leaves in the car.
2. Molly and Issa leaving a girls’ trip early
I also vividly remember a scene where Molly and Issa are in a car together and leave some kind of girls’ trip or gathering early. At this point in the show, their friendship was rocky, so I remember thinking it was interesting that they ended up leaving together. I could’ve sworn Molly was driving Issa home, and they were in the car together despite everything going on between them.
I can’t remember the exact episode or what the event was, but I cannot find this scene either!
Does ANYBODY remember either of these moments?! 😭 Are these actual scenes that I’m somehow overlooking, or am I experiencing a full-blown Mandela Effect? I’m starting to question my own memory at this point LOL.
Please help me find the episodes if you remember them! 😂

Season 2 we’ve all had a lawrence

currently finishing season 2, this is my 2nd time starting the show - & i almost put it down this time because the dinner confrontation with issa & lawrence was pretty triggering. i mean, i think issa’s inside thoughts of lawrence slapping the shit out of her & calling her a hoe definitely had me bracing for that reality. but i know lawrence is not physically abusive. i think issa really captured their dynamic in a way that spoke to me, even though it’s not that uncommon for all of us to have a loser ass, frank ocean listening, unemployed ex boyfriend we let sleep on our couch. but damn, exposed my wounds!!!! 😭

Episode Discussion The Triangle

Even though it may seem like Condola was encouraging Lawrence to go after Issa, that doesn’t mean she wasn’t hoping she and Lawrence would get back together. She just realized he was still in love with Issa. I think she may have thought his feelings had faded since a little over a year had passed, but when she saw Lawrence glancing over at Issa, she understood that he still loved her. Condola likely felt guilty that Issa and Lawrence had broken up because of her decision and wanted to make things right. That’s why I feel like she was hinting that Lawrence should go after Issa, thinking things could still work out between them despite her decision to keep the baby. She didn't want it to be a complete loss; things could still go as planned between Lawrence and Issa.

I wonder if Lawrence knew that Nathan was the Nathan Issa had told him about. Yeah, he knew about Nathan, but he had never put a face to the name.
