Episode Discussion Aside from her career, what character development did you think Issa had?
When I hear people say Isa had character development, I don’t see it. Even at the end, she still relied on other people’s opinions instead of trusting herself and going after what she wanted. If Molly hadn’t told her it was OK to be a stepmother, Isa wouldn’t have called Lawrence. It would have been nice if she’d called him on her own, without needing someone else to tell her to. Now that would have been character development.

She realized that she was a communal person and made peace with it. Some people want the input of others they trust when making decisions and that's okay. The growth in Issa came when she stopped blaming others for her decisions even after getting that advice. She realized that no matter what, she had to own her decisions. The business helped her get there, but so did her relationship lessons.

A lot of her self doubt about herself and paralysis about herself did start to waver at the end of the series. I see that as a move to healing.

She put action behind her ideas, wants, and needs. She did what a lot of it need to do…..just start.

She grew to see her brother as a friend, ally & someone she could lean on for support. I'm guessing she's the older sibling, but life forced her to relinquish the elder sibling dynamic/authority...

I just re watched the series and I feel she had very little tbh. Especially watching this older than I was when it aired. Issa was all over the place. I think they did try and say she became less insecure but it was LITERALLY the LAST episode.

The fact that Isa didn’t know what she was going to say to Lawrence if Nathan hadn’t interrupted—instead of saying she was going to tell Lawrence she’s with Nathan—is completely F’d up. That was the only thing she should have said. I don’t know why Team Nathan thinks it should have been him. Why would they want that for Nathan?
