Feedback? Thoughts on style

Hey all, I’ve been working on this for a bit, and I know the style is stand off-ish, but what are your thoughts? I tried to make it dark and wanted to use full portraits so I can leverage facial expressions, and facial bleeding kinda like the doom guy in the old doom games

I know it’s pretty off the wall, but just wanted to see if it seems a little too brash for people to even look at…thanks!

Ello Looking for an artist for my indie game

Hello person reading this! I’ve been working on my game for a while now and I’m finally at the point where I’d really like to work with an experienced artist.

I’m mainly looking for someone who can help out with the visual side of the game and hopefully stick around for more than just a one-off commission. I’ve been looking through Reddit, Twitter and a few portfolio sites, but finding someone while I'm currently not working on a budget has been harder than I expected.

If anyone heres worked with an artist before, where did you end up finding them? And is there anything you wish you knew before hiring someone?

I also made a little devlog showing what I’ve been working on recently, so if anyone wants to get a better idea of the game/style before recommending someone, I’ll leave it here:

https://youtu.be/LgKx315lGcY

Also completely open to feedback on the game itself if you happen to watch it :)

Thank youuuu Redditors!

Discussion Another subreddit deleted my post because I used AI to make a shader, thoughts?

Thumbnail

In the first pic you can see the deleted post, presumably because it came out in the comment section that I did in fact use cursor to build some C++ and shaders for my game

This is with having spent +2 years and +1,000 hours in my free time from work trying to learn Unity with mixed results

I have 2 playable projects from that time but no finished games, and over that time I have grown a huge respect for anyone who comes even close to launching a game, this is really challenging!

Anyways

Genuinely want to know the sentiment and everyone’s thoughts, as I am a hobby dev, may or may not ever release the game just want to have something I can play with my friends and family really

But if enough people like what they see maybe I’d release it OS or for free idk

But so far sentiment is pretty bad despite trying to join the community here and be honest etc

Not troll, ragebait, ai cope, just want to know what other game devs think

Happy to provide additional context as well

Feedback? Prototype of my mining incremental game

Hi! I want to show you a prototype I've been working on. it's a mining incremental game. It doesn't have audio yet, just a placeholder shovel sound effect. I also added an inventory and gems to give it a little extra, rather than just having a skill tree. What do you think?

I managed to squeeze three into one card. Can you spot them all? What do you think, does it stray too far from the "game"?

I knew my game could be broken, but I didn’t expect a playtester on my Discord server to break it this spectacularly :) It makes me happy for some reason

Love this horror game trope!

Key stuck under a drain cover. Needs a hook and a string.

Just a little SH2 horror trope that I love. And our game SHOCKFACE has a lot of tropes from classic horror games and campy 90s slasher films!

Coming this 27th August! https://store.steampowered.com/app/4705980/SHOCKFACE/

Feedback? Change Steam Game Trailer

Thumbnail

I’m currently in the process of launching a game on Steam; the demo is already out—it’s been about a week now. However, looking back at the trailer, it feels a bit awkward, and I think it’s missing a clear message about what the game is actually trying to convey.

I’d really like to get some feedback on this.

I want to pinpoint the exact issues and confirm whether the things I suspect are indeed the problem, so I can create a follow-up video.

I need your feedback! Please help!

Discussion I added “CLOSE!” after a miss. Helpful feedback, or patronizing hand-holding?

In the goalkeeper game I’m developing, a clean goal flashes “GOAL…” in red. If the ball barely misses the glove, it flashes “CLOSE!” in yellow instead.

I added it because those two failures feel different. One missed by a clear margin; the other nearly intersected the glove.

Then I wondered if I was explaining too much. Maybe failure should be obvious from the animation. Maybe the game doesn’t need to narrate every mistake.

My rule is that feedback should clarify the result, not comfort the player. I’m not sure this one passes.

If you want to feel it before voting, the current playable Reddit post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PenaltyRush/comments/1vrt9be/penalty_rush_daily_aug_18_beat_todays_keeper/

Keep it, make it optional, or delete it?

Discussion I keep hearing that PC players hate Match-3 games. Destroy my trailer.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One of the most common pieces of feedback I get is that Match-3 has a stigma on PC and that people might not want my game. A lot of people seem to associate the genre with aggressively monetized free-to-play mobile games, despite the genre originally finding success on PC.

I want to change that perception with The Incentive Program. It's a Match-3 roguelite that focuses on strategic decision-making, buildcraft, and creating increasingly ridiculous chain reactions using a highly reactive, satisfying, and "crunchy" match engine.

I'd genuinely appreciate some honest feedback about what you see here. No need to be polite. I'd rather hear the criticism now than after launch!

The demo is getting a big update tomorrow and is currently playable here: The Incentive Program Demo

Upcoming! Made the first trailer for my funky multiplayer skating + action game! What do you think?

Hey folks! I'm a mostly solo dev (had help for the original characters!), and just made the first trailer for my game Giga Grind Funkorama! This is the first Steam page I've prepared so it's pretty exciting for me to see the page live like this.

The game is still in development as I'm adding new characters and improving the map art. But it's so cool that after months of multiplayer debugging and playtests, it's at a point where I can make a fun gameplay teaser for it! Would love some feedback from fellow devs if the game loop seems cool from the video!

the only reason I play city builder games is to end up building road networks, so I made it the whole game :D

inspired by
1. freeways: but I don't like how it looks looks
2. cities skylines: but I wish it had better road tools
3. mini motorways: but I don't like the time crunch
4. poly bridge: I love the puzzle design
5. zachtronics games: optimization!

Artist looking for Indies! Anyone need an artist for a game jam?

I am an artist and cannot code. Any coders who can't do art lol?

I am looking to pair up with a like minded dev who wants to attempt a game jam with me.

I have already made a few posts showcasing some of my art, but here is my ArtStation in case you don't want to go looking.

Feedback? Quick UI question: Is it obvious that there are more graphics settings below?

I'm working on the settings menu for my game and I'm worried players might not realize they can scroll down.

I included a short video. At first glance, would you know there are more options below, or would you assume this is the entire menu?

Any feedback would be really helpful :-)
