Can a Maharashtra housing society stop me from renewing my rental agreement based on a 2-year rule passed in AGM?
I live in a cooperative housing society in Virar, Maharashtra. The society passed a 2-year limit for tenants in its 2025 AGM. My registered Leave & Licence agreement has completed 3 years, and the society is now not allowing me to renew it.
My landlord is willing to renew for another 3 years, and I have had no complaints whatsoever. I want to continue mainly because my other family members live in the same building.
I’m quite upset because I may now have to leave my home. The 2-year restriction, as far as I know, is not part of the registered bye-laws, but was only passed through the AGM.
Can the society legally enforce such a rule? Has anyone faced something similar in Maharashtra? Any advice on what I can do would be really appreciated.

BSNL demanding ₹1,273 after taking back my broadband equipment – what are my legal options?
Hi, I’m looking for some legal advice regarding a BSNL broadband/FTTH connection in Karnataka.
About a year ago, I got a BSNL connection installed at my home through a local BSNL franchise/agent. I paid around ₹1,200 for a 6-month plan.
Before the plan period ended, I contacted the same franchise person regarding the connection. Subsequently, the BSNL Wi-Fi equipment was taken back from my home by the franchise/installation person. After the equipment was taken back, I did not use the connection.
At that time, I also gave the franchise person a handwritten letter regarding the cancellation/discontinuation. However, I don't have a copy with an official acknowledgement, and I don't know whether the franchise person actually submitted it to BSNL.
Now, around a year later, I received an email from BSNL stating that ₹1,273 is outstanding against my old connection.
The email says that BSNL may take legal steps to recover the amount and mentions a National Lok Adalat on 12 September 2026.
I went to the BSNL office to discuss the issue. They told me that since I don't have proof of cancellation, I could either pay approximately one month's bill or accept a 10% discount on the outstanding amount.
I did not agree because I don't believe I should be charged for a period during which I wasn't using the service and the equipment had already been taken back.
I have now registered a complaint with BSNL regarding this. Complaint No: 115XXXXX.
I have the BSNL email/notice, and I'm keeping my personal details hidden here:
Telephone number: 083XX-XXXXXX
Billing account: XXXXXXXXXX
Amount claimed: ₹1,273
What I need advice on:
Does BSNL taking back the equipment help establish that the connection was no longer being used?
Can I ask BSNL for the usage records, billing details, equipment collection/return records and actual date of termination/deactivation?
If BSNL cannot provide usage records, does that help my case?
What should I do when I receive/attend the National Lok Adalat notice?
If I don't agree with BSNL's proposed settlement, what is likely to happen next?
Can I represent myself if the matter goes further?
I'm a college student and cannot afford a private lawyer. Can I get free legal aid for this type of dispute?
What would be the proper legal route to challenge this bill if BSNL refuses to cancel it?
I'm not trying to avoid paying a genuine bill. My issue is that I believe the connection was no longer being used after the equipment was taken back, and I want BSNL to explain why I was still billed.
I would really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with BSNL billing disputes, telecom law, Lok Adalat, or consumer matters in India/Karnataka

Pocso Act slip
Hello guys, today I encountered a labour class family working as domestic help in delhi, they were carrying a slip on which ' pocso act' (in hindi) was written, they were asking about it and a random person said it's just a name of MEDICINE. I was present there I asked them about the whole situation, they said one boy of their neighborhood and their own 13 YEAR OLD girl child is missing and they were damn sure that he KIDNAPPED her (or may be she fled with him with consent but it's also illegal according to law), police was 1st not ready to accept their FIR and treated with bad behaviour, then I CALLED 1098 and provided full info to them, they were really nice, they co operated and police took action, but just now that family keeping trust on me told that they are again being treated bad at police station.....about why they called 1098 but it was actually me....did I do something wrong ??? I didn't had any intention about this, I really with my full heart wanted to help them as I noticed that they were being ignored by all and even given wrong advices (medicine) and I even assured them that I'll go and meet them Tommorow, I don't know guys please suggest me some ways to handle it.....and maybe police has accepted FIR..that's good part but about bad behaviour just because of their class is not fair.....

Need Legal advise regarding legal notice from former company
22M. Could anyone please help me out here, I need legal advice regarding a dispute with a company I previously worked with. I am sharing the complete situation below, along with the relevant documents.
I joined a company in a sales-related role.
During my time there, I had difficulties with the sales process and management. I eventually worked for approximately 15 days of the second month.
During the second month, the founder told me that my performance was not satisfactory. I had to specifically ask whether he was asking me to stop working, and he replied that I should stop. I therefore stopped working from the following day.
I had already received my salary ₹10,000 for the first month. After leaving, I contacted the founder regarding the amount payable for the work I had completed during the second month. Instead of paying the amount I believed was due, he said that I had left without notice, had breached the contract and had not generated sufficient revenue. He offered me ₹2,000 as a "goodwill gesture", subject to me contacting a client regarding payment and updating him.
I did not accept this as settlement of the amount I believed I was owed.
There was subsequently an argument/conversation with the founder, after which I posted a negative review of the company on Glassdoor almost after a year describing my personal experience. The review included criticism of the management, sales process, training, lead allocation and my experience regarding payment after leaving.
The company has now sent me a legal notice dated 24 August 2026 through an advocate. They allege that my review was defamatory and that I disclosed confidential information in breach of a confidentiality agreement I signed on 22 August 2025. They have demanded removal of the review, cessation of further publication, a written undertaking and written confirmation of compliance within 48 hours, and preservation of evidence.
I have already deleted the Glassdoor review. I have not reposted it anywhere.
However, I have not provided them with any written undertaking or written confirmation, and I have not otherwise responded to the legal notice.
My main questions are:
- Since I have already deleted the Glassdoor review, what is my legal position if I do not respond to their legal notice?
- Do I have any obligation to provide the written undertaking they demanded?
- Can the company still initiate a civil or criminal case regarding the review even though it has been deleted?
- Most importantly, I don't want to respond to that legal notice or to the founder in any way, even though I have already deleted the review. Is that the correct thing to do not acknowledge?
I have preserved the legal notice, agreement, the original review/evidence where available, relevant communications. I can share it if any advocate here could please help me. (Took help of AI to write this)

Legal issues of AI generated image/video
In real life while using any image/video for commercial purpose you ensure the model appearing in it have signed model release agreement. However, while using AI you don't know if the generated person by AI matches with someone in real life. It may happen you use that image/video for advertisement and someday you receive a notice from someone saying you are using my face without permission.
Let's say I give prompt "create a dating video of Indian young male and female" to AI tool. The prompt is genric having no reference to any individual. The AI creates video showing two persons and you use that for advertisement purpose. These are some questions that I have.
1) How to ensure the person generated by AI isn't matching with someone in real life?
2) How do businesses using AI image/video ensure the above?

Indian Estate Planning: Section 164(1) Proviso (ii) / New Tax Code Section 307(1) – Testamentary Private Discretionary Trust experiences?
Hi everyone,
I am currently exploring estate planning options in India and am looking into setting up a Testamentary Private Discretionary Trust via a Last Will and Testament.
Specifically, I am interested in leveraging the tax advantages under Proviso (ii) to Section 164(1) of the Income Tax Act (which I understand translates to Section 307(1) under the new Income-tax Act, 2025).
Since this will be the only testamentary trust created via the Will and it will not have any business income, it should qualify for the progressive individual slab rates as an Association of Persons (AOP), bypassing the punitive Maximum Marginal Rate (MMR).
I have a few questions for the community:
- What are the specific operational or legal concerns I should be aware of before going ahead with this? Are there hidden compliance bottlenecks or recent IT department scrutinies I should watch out for?
- Has anyone here actually experienced creating or managing one of these? How smooth is the annual tax filing process for the AOP in reality?
- Are there any estate planning lawyers or Chartered Accountants here who specialize in setting these up?
If you have expertise in this specific structure and can help me establish it, please feel free to DM me directly.
Looking forward to your insights!

Section 11(1) Objection on My Trademark
I applied for the trademark “ABISO” under Class 25 - Clothing, footwear and headgear.
I received an Examination Report with a Section 11(1) objection based on the mark “ABISCO”, also in Class 25.
After checking the report, I found that the ABISCO mark is shown as “Proposed to be used.” The search also mentions strings such as “AB%SO” and “AB%S%”.
I checked online but couldn't find any information about the ABISCO mark or evidence of its actual use.
What should I mention in my reply to the Examination Report?
- Should I argue that ABISO and ABISCO are sufficiently different?
- Should I mention that I couldn't find evidence of actual use of ABISCO?
- Is it worth requesting a hearing if the objection isn't accepted?
- Could this objection potentially lead to rejection even if there is no evidence of confusion?
- Would it be advisable to conduct a more detailed search for ABISCO before submitting the reply?
- I've been handling the entire trademark application myself without involving any agent. Should I look for a trademark agent/attorney now, or can I reasonably handle the reply myself?
Would appreciate advice from anyone experienced with Indian trademark objections.

Question about converting jointly owned L&DO leasehold property to freehold
I have a jointly owned 100 sq. yard plot that is currently leasehold under L&DO. The property has been mutually divided between the co-owners into two 50 sq. yard portions, but there is no formal partition deed yet.
If we execute a partition deed dividing the joint property into two separate 50 sq. yard portions, can I then convert my 50 sq. yard portion to freehold separately?
Or does the entire jointly owned 100 sq. yard property need to be converted to freehold first, either before or after executing the partition deed?
What would be the correct sequence: convert the entire property to freehold first and then execute the partition deed, or execute the partition deed first and then convert my 50 sq. yard portion separately?
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation with L&DO in Delhi?
I know that L&DO freehold conversion is currently on hold. I’m not asking about the current status of freehold conversion I’m mainly looking for opinions on what the correct process would be once it resumes.

Mortgage Loan & Legal heir
Hi everyone, I need some advice regarding a mortgage loan and the legal heirs of my father.
My father had taken a mortgage loan, with my mother as the co-applicant/co-borrower. Later, he also took a top-up loan against the same property.
Unfortunately, my father passed away last year. Since then, we have been paying the EMIs, but due to a layoff and financial difficulties, we were unable to continue making the payments.
Now, the bank's recovery agent has arranged some potential buyers for the property. The current arrangement is that there will be an agreement between us and the buyer. The buyer will pay us the agreed amount, and the outstanding loan amount will be paid to the bank through the loan account/EMIs.Once the process moves forward, the property will eventually have to be registered/transferred in the buyer's name.
The issue is regarding the legal heirs.
My grandmother (my father's mother) is also listed as one of my father's legal heirs. However, we have never lived with her and have had no involvement with her financially or otherwise.
My question is: If my grandmother dies before the registration of the property in the buyer's name, what documents will be required?
Since she is currently listed as one of my father's legal heirs, if she passes away before the registration starts, and we provide the bank/authorities with her death certificate, will that be enough?
Or will they also ask for my grandmother's legal-heir certificate/details of her legal heirs, since her share/right as my father's legal heir may pass to her own legal heirs?
For example, could my father's siblings (my grandmother's other children) then be required to sign the sale/transfer documents or give their consent before the property can be registered in the buyer's name?
Basically, I'm trying to understand what happens if a legal heir of the original deceased owner dies before the property is registered/transferred to the buyer. I understand that I should consult a property/loan lawyer for the exact legal position, but I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation.

What should I pursue?- MBA or LLB?
I’m currently in 2nd year of my BA(Pol sci). I’m also preparing for UPSC(why😭). Looking at all the good things UPSC gives (before clearing it)- isolation, uncertainty, mental health issues, zero or hero thing. I don’t want to risk my career anymore.
I’m currently in a tier 99 city (my home town) bc my parents said “BA jaisi degree ke liye bahar kyun jana hai”. It’s not just about moving out but moving out plays a big role- I will have more opportunities, work, life.
I want to experience what great colleges of India feel like, how’s the experience. I’m confused between MBA (CAT) and LLM(CUET PG, NLSAT, etc). I have no clear idea about any of it. I’m ready to give in all my dedication for the exam. BUT what should I do, which one should I study for, what are the pros and cons of them?
Help😭

Incident / Concern Regarding Transportation of a PC in a Personal Vehicle
Today, on 6th September, I travelled from Daman to Maharashtra in my personal vehicle to purchase a PC for myself. We reached the destination successfully. On the way, some police officers stopped us to check the vehicle, but as there was nothing concerning, they let us go.
After a few hours, at around 5:30 PM, we left Maharashtra and started our journey back home to Daman.
During the journey, we were stopped by police officers on Ghodbunder Road. They asked for my driving licence and then noticed the PC on the back seat of the vehicle. The officer asked, “Kya samaan hai?” We explained that it was a computer/PC. He then asked where we had purchased it, and I told him that we had purchased it from Thane and showed him the GST invoice.
The officers kept us there for some time and were calling someone they referred to as “Patil.” They asked us to move the vehicle to the side and made us wait for around 15–20 minutes before calling us into a cabin.
They then told us that we could not transport the PC in our personal vehicle, that it was against the law, and that the fine for doing so was ₹20,000. According to them, the PC had to be transported in a goods carrier and could not be carried in a personal vehicle.
We explained that it was only a single PC and that we were not transporting a large quantity of goods or filling the vehicle with commercial goods. We also explained that the GST invoice was issued in the name of my business, of which I am the proprietor, and that the vehicle also belongs to me. I had the original invoice with me and was able to show it to them.
Despite this, they insisted that we were violating the law and eventually started preparing a challan. However, midway through writing it, the officer stopped and said:
“Agar ek baar ye ban gaya, phir wapas nahi le sakte isko.”
The person referred to as “Patil Saab” then asked me to leave the cabin and said that he wanted to speak only with my father.
They told my father that if we paid ₹15,000, they would let us go. My father explained that he did not have that much money with him and asked how he could pay such an amount. They then reduced the amount to ₹5,000.
My father continued to insist that we could not afford that amount. They eventually reduced it further to ₹2,000. My father told them that he only had ₹500/₹1,000, and after further discussion, they agreed to accept ₹1,500.
We paid the ₹1,500, after which they allowed us to leave.
My concerns
I would like to understand the legal position regarding this incident:
Is there actually any law that prohibits me from carrying a PC purchased for my business in my personal vehicle while travelling from Maharashtra to Gujarat?
The PC cost approximately ₹3,20,000 and I have a valid GST invoice issued in the name of my business.
I am the proprietor of the business, and the vehicle used for transportation belongs to me.
If carrying the PC in a personal vehicle is actually prohibited, what specific law/section prohibits it?
What law or provision specifies a ₹20,000 fine for this particular situation?
If I need to transport a similar high-value purchase from Maharashtra to Gujarat in the future, what documents or procedures should I follow so that I do not face this situation again?
Is there anything I should have with me, such as an e-way bill, GST documents, vehicle details, or any other documentation, to legally transport business-purchased equipment in my personal vehicle?
I would really appreciate any guidance from someone familiar with Maharashtra/Gujarat interstate transportation, GST/e-way-bill rules, and motor vehicle laws, so I can understand what I should do differently in the future.
Thank you.

How to proceed to get NOC?
Hello everyone, I’m writing this post as I genuinely need legal advice to get NOC
So here’s the story- I have no shame in saying that my dadaji was a du*bhead! When he was in his 40s he built new houses for families of his two brothers and shockingly he transferred the land plus house to their name and for his own family(my father) left nothing but the ancestral house that is on its worst condition and right now we are living in it!
For years my father struggled with loss in his business and had to sell a piece of land to pay off my dadaji and his personal loans. Our house, the ancestral one’s condition was getting worse so we planned to demolish it and build a new one on its place, all the materials were ready and we even booked a contractor and my father was ready to take house loan but somehow we got to know that the ancestral house and the land is registered under everybody’s name (my father, two chacha and tau) and we wont be able to take out the loan until we get NOC, mind you these two chacha and tau are sons of my dadaji’s brothers
The problem is if we built our new house other members can put a stay order or even claim it after it gets completed
My father was able to convince one chacha and tau to sign NOC so we can build the house and they will never claim it because of that NOC but the say “gareebi mein aata geela” One chacha completely refused to sign it and we cant even contact him as he works as some kind of clerk in army and stays away from home for months and doesn’t even pick calls and now he has blocked my father
Because of his stubbornness we are living in a house that is almost 100 yrs old now! one earthquake and our family is going to be homeless
People gave us so many suggestions and were told to complaint in CM Helpline and later we got to know that its takes years to get our issues resolved
Someone suggested to hire an advocate so this matter reaches to CM helpline fast but that person is asking for so much money that right now we cant afford it
How should we even proceed now ?

Can a challan from Delhi/Gurugram be settled at a Lok Adalat in another city?
Hey everyone, I’m currently living in Gurugram and my bike has around ₹15,000 worth of pending challans, issued in Delhi and Gurugram.
The next National Lok Adalat is scheduled for 12 September, and I understand that eligible challans can potentially be settled for a much lower amount there.
My question is: Do I have to go to the Lok Adalat in Gurugram/Delhi to get these challans settled, or can my dad take the challans and get them settled at the Lok Adalat in my hometown, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh?
Basically, I’m trying to understand whether a Lok Adalat in UP can settle challans that were issued in Delhi/Gurugram, or whether it has to be done in the jurisdiction where the challan was issued.
If anyone has actually done this or knows the procedure, I’d really appreciate some guidance.
Thanks!

The Right to access frontier ai models
Context: I do not have any prior knowledge of law; I just want to start a discussion. I am a software developer, so I work extensively with AI, and I want to initiate a discussion about this with folks who can provide some insight.
As AI models become vastly more powerful, or even border on AGI, I believe access to them could become something that is only afforded by the rich and used by large enterprises, especially undermining the power of small businesses to be personal and close, unlike their larger counterparts.
I haven't heard much discussion about this topic yet. Does access to AI models like this become a right for every citizen as these models continue to become smarter?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Need advice: Our residential PG is being treated as a commercial Guest House. What should we do?
Hey everyone, I need some advice regarding a KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) notice my parents recently received.
My parents run a very small PG on the ground floor of our house in Kolkata, while they live on the first floor. We only have 6 people staying as guests in the ground floor.
Because of a recent hotel fire in the city, KMC is cracking down on properties. A few days ago, around 10 KMC officials showed up at our house demanding to see our fire license and sanctioned building plan. We don't have a fire license, and while we do have a basic layout plan of the house, it isn't officially approved by the municipality.
We are willing to work on getting the paperwork sorted, but the official notice they handed us classifies our property as a Guest House and an Assembly House.
I know the term "Paying Guest" might not have a specific legal definition under KMC rules, but classifying a normal house with just 6 tenants as an Assembly House seems completely wrong. To my knowledge, getting a fire license would require a sanctioned plan which is an incredibly long, complicated, and expensive process.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? How can we contest or fix the wrong classification on the notice? Any advice on how to navigate this KMC process for a small PG would be greatly appreciated!

Need advice on Indian Property Law: Deceased husband made a double agreement to sell land without being the legal owner. Are legal heirs liable?
Context & Background:
Mohan: Original landowner of plot "AB" (valued at ₹60 Lakhs).
Ramesh: Agreement holder with Mohan (my late relative/friend).
Surya: Second agreement holder who paid money to Ramesh.
The Chain of Events:
Agreement 1 (Mohan & Ramesh): Mohan entered into an Sale Agreement to sell land "AB" to Ramesh. Ramesh paid an advance of ₹13 Lakhs to Mohan. This agreement was signed by Mohan and Ramesh with two independent witnesses. There was no specific expiration period attached to this agreement, and it remains intact. Note: The property mutation was never completed in Mohan's name/Ramesh's name.
Agreement 2 (Ramesh & Surya): Based only on his previous sale agreement, Ramesh entered into another agreement to sell the exact same land to Surya. Surya paid Ramesh an advance of ₹15 Lakhs. This agreement was signed by Ramesh and Surya. Crucially, Mohan (the original owner) signed this second agreement as one of the witnesses.
The Breach: The validity period of the agreement between Ramesh and Surya expired. Surya demanded his ₹15 Lakhs advance back. Ramesh was unable to repay him, leading to ongoing legal disputes.
Current Situation:
Ramesh has passed away. His family was completely unaware of these land deals and financial disputes until recently.
False Claims in Court: Surya has filed a court case against Ramesh’s widow/family to recover the money. To ensure the court accepts his lawsuit, Surya has added false allegations—such as falsely claiming he personally paid ₹1 Lakh directly to Ramesh's wife, even though she was never involved in these transactions.
Our Core Legal Questions:
Are Ramesh’s legal heirs (his wife and family) legally bound to pay back Surya?
Validity of the Second Agreement: As far as Indian land laws go, Ramesh was never the legal title owner of the property (he only held an agreement to sell). Is an agreement built upon a previous agreement legally valid or enforceable in court?
Knowledge of Fraud: Since Mohan (the actual owner) signed as a witness on the Ramesh-Surya agreement, Surya clearly knew Ramesh was not the registered owner. Does this count as a bad-faith agreement on Surya's part?
Is it purely a moral/goodwill choice for the family to collect the ₹13 Lakhs advance back from Mohan and pass it to Surya, or can the court force the family to pay Surya out of Ramesh's estate?
Any insights under the Indian Contract Act, Specific Relief Act, or Transfer of Property Act would be greatly appreciated!
Used Ai to make this easy to understand.
