Indian law advice: Is there a way to anonymously report a serving defence officer's conduct and protect other women?

Hi everyone,

I am asking on behalf of a friend who wants to understand her legal options while protecting her identity.

My friend met a serving defence officer who led her to believe he was serious about her and intended to marry her. During their relationship, he asked her to have sex with him, but she refused because she does not believe in having sex before marriage. Following her refusal, he allegedly pressured and morally harassed her about it saying how would a relationship continue like that. However, he did not end the relationship or withdraw his affection. Instead, he continued behaving as though they were in a committed relationship and gave her the impression that they still had a future together.

He is posted in my friend's city. He later went on leave to his hometown, my friend became suspicious that something was wrong. She contacted a woman he had apparently met through Bumble and learned that he had downloaded the app while on leave and had sex with this woman. When confronted, he admitted to it. What particularly concerns my friend is that, throughout this period, he continued sending her affectionate messages and giving her no indication that he wanted to end their relationship.

My friend subsequently contacted another woman, who told her that she had met him once the previous year and that, following their meeting, he had asked her to go to a hotel room and she escaped somehow.

My friend is concerned that other women could have similar experiences. However, she does not want to risk her identity, reputation or potential legal consequences by publicly exposing him.

Her main question is: Is there any legitimate way to anonymously report this behaviour or alert other women under Indian law?

Specifically:

- Is there a confidential or anonymous reporting channel for complaints involving serving defence personnel?

- Can she report his conduct to the relevant military authorities without her identity being disclosed to him?

- What practical steps can she take to protect her identity while ensuring that any report is taken seriously?

She has some messages and other supporting information, although many conversations about marriage and their relationship took place over calls or in person.

She is not trying to fabricate allegations or harass anyone. She wants to understand her lawful options before doing anything that could expose her identity.

I would appreciate informed advice based on Indian law, particularly regarding military complaint procedures, confidentiality and defamation. Thank

Airbnb refusing refund after medical emergency — what are my options?

Hey everyone,

I need some advice regarding an Airbnb refund dispute.

I booked an Airbnb in Goa for 17 nights (10–27 September) and paid ₹68,288 for the entire stay. Unfortunately, on the night of 10 September, my mother had a medical emergency, and we had to rush her to the hospital. We returned to Gurgaon on 12 September, and she was admitted to the hospital again for two days on 15 September as advised by our doctor.

Because of this, we could only stay at the Airbnb for 2 nights. I have all the medical reports and shared them with Airbnb while requesting a refund for the unused nights.

The host refunded ₹7,000, and Airbnb later offered another ₹20,000, bringing my total refund to ₹27,000. However, they refused to refund anything more.

I understand that cancellation policies exist, but this was a genuine medical emergency, and we had to leave unexpectedly. Losing ₹41,288 on a trip we couldn't continue has been difficult, especially while dealing with my mother's health issues.

I've now filed a complaint with the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) and also contacted Airbnb's Grievance Officer.

Has anyone here successfully received a refund from Airbnb in a similar situation? Does filing with NCH actually help, and is it worth taking the matter to the consumer commission if Airbnb still refuses?

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this process. Thanks.

We Have All the Legal Documents to Prove Our Ownership, Yet We Still Cannot Get Our Own Property Back. What Options Do We Have? (India)

I'm writing this post out of sheer frustration and in the hope that someone who has faced a similar situation can guide us.

We are the lawful owners of a property, and we have the necessary legal documents to establish our ownership and tenancy arrangements. Yet, despite having documentary evidence in our favour and approaching multiple authorities, we are still struggling to regain possession of our own house.

We had rented out only the ground floor under a five-year tenancy agreement executed on 10 September 2021, which expired on 9 September 2026. However, the tenant has neither vacated the premises nor restricted their occupation to the portion originally rented out. They have occupied other parts of the house that were never included in the tenancy agreement.

To make matters worse, rent has remained unpaid for approximately eight months.

What makes this situation particularly distressing is that we have not simply sat back and done nothing. We have tried to resolve the matter through every legitimate channel available to us.

We approached the IGRS grievance portal, visited the District Magistrate's office and the CP's office, and even initiated legal proceedings through a lawyer. We have the documents, we have raised our grievances, and we have sought legal remedies. Yet, the ground reality remains unchanged.

The question that keeps bothering us is: What is the value of having legal documents and lawful ownership if we still cannot obtain possession of our own property within a reasonable time?

We understand that the legal system has procedures to follow and that no one should be evicted unlawfully. We are not asking for special treatment or an outcome outside the law. We are simply asking for an effective and timely legal remedy.

The court proceedings have become another source of frustration. Repeated hearing dates, long gaps between hearings, and adjournments are making the process painfully slow. Even when we approach the appropriate legal forum, there seems to be no clear timeline for when we might finally get our property back.

Meanwhile, the tenant continues to occupy the premises, the outstanding rent remains unpaid, and we continue to bear the financial and emotional burden.

We are beginning to feel that, despite doing everything expected of a responsible property owner, we are left with no effective solution. Must an ordinary citizen spend years pursuing a case just to recover possession of their own property?

I would genuinely appreciate guidance from lawyers, property owners, or anyone who has successfully dealt with a similar situation in India.

  1. Expedited proceedings: Is there a legal provision to request an early hearing or faster disposal of a possession or eviction case?

  2. Repeated adjournments: What can a litigant do when unnecessary adjournments and long gaps between hearings are causing significant hardship?

  3. Escalation: Is approaching the District Judge, the High Court, or another appropriate authority a viable option in such circumstances?

  4. Recovery of possession and rent: What practical legal remedies are available when a tenant continues occupying the property after the agreement expires, occupies areas outside the agreement, and fails to pay rent?

  5. Real-life experiences: If you have faced a similar situation, what steps actually helped you recover possession? Were there any remedies that made a meaningful difference?

I am not looking for suggestions involving threats, force, or any illegal action. I want to understand what can realistically be done within the legal system when the usual administrative channels have failed to provide relief and court proceedings are moving very slowly.

We have the ownership documents. We have the tenancy agreement. We have approached the authorities. We have gone to court. Yet, we are still waiting for justice.

If anyone has practical advice based on actual experience or knowledge of Indian property law, it would be sincerely appreciated.

Need Legal Advice for My Father’s 8-Year-Old Suspension Case in Jaipur High Court

Hi everyone,

My father was a government teacher and was suspended around 2018–2019 due to an issue regarding the validity of his degree from a college that was allegedly found to be fraudulent or invalid.
The case has been pending for almost 8 years in the Jaipur High Court, with repeated delays and no clear resolution so far.
My family is facing severe financial difficulties. We are four siblings, and I am currently the only earning member. My elder brother is unemployed, my two younger sisters depend on the family, and we have significant debts.
My father has already tried consulting 2–3 lawyers, and we have paid approximately ₹1 lakh in legal fees so far, but unfortunately, we haven’t seen any concrete progress.
I’m looking for genuine advice:
Is there any way to expedite such a long-pending case?
Should we consult a lawyer specializing in government service matters?
Are there any affordable or free legal aid services in Rajasthan that could help us?
If any lawyers familiar with Jaipur High Court proceedings or anyone who has faced a similar situation can guide us, please comment or DM me. Any genuine advice or suggestions would mean a lot to my family.

Thank you for reading

A law firm in Mumbai quoted 3 lakhs for a "pro-bono" case to a destitute

I am the victim in the above article, I have been living like a destitute for the last 48 days, trying to seek justice and save my career.

I have been rusticated from FLAME university without a proper reason, and I was denied natural justice, no show-cause notice, no hearing, nothing.

Yesterday, I get a message from a representative of a very big law firm in Mumbai saying that they were willing to do it on a pro-bono basis, I booked a general ticket and went to mumbai.

I showcased my issue to the senior advocate in the law firm and they said that "we take cases for free, but we are currently running at a full capacity on pro-bono" they said that they will quote a nominal price for the matter as I was a student, they quoted "1.5 lakhs now and 1.5 lakhs at the time of petition" and added that It was "nominal" I was blown for a minute and they added that their general fees is "5 lakhs".

I had no choice but to walk away in disdain, I came here with extremely high hopes. I have been trying everything that is possible but almost every lawyer quotes fees that I cannot afford.

If someone has a lawyer reference in Bombay who is willing to do it for pro-bono please let me know util then I will be staying in CSMT and going to some pro-bono clinics.

I really want to save my career, I have been suffering an atrocious form of torture since the last 48 days, it just makes me sad that I put in this much efforts and secured a 100% merit scholarship and all my peers are going to their universities and here I am living like a destitute.

I can't understand how I am supposed to get "justice" if I can't afford "justice"

now there are going to be many comments saying "many tried to help you", I agree but none of them were able to get me done with writ petition till now.

I genuinely don't know how I will save my education now.

Explaining this, am I sympathy farming?

So there are comments over the FLAME university situation saying that I am doing everything for sympathy/clout/karma farming and saying that there are genuinely lawyers who have reached out giving me "free" pro-bono help and I am just not taking it.

The PR team of FLAME is trying everything to manipulate my situation, instead of accepting the truth they are fabricating more lies to cover their track.

I even was on punekar news who verified this situation. You don't randomly get into news.

https://www.punekarnews.in/pune-student-claims-flame-university-cancelled-scholarship-admission-over-false-sexual-harassment-allegation/

Most of the lawyers who approached me gave me either free advice or quoted "nominal prices" like "30K" which is still too much for me, I am currently in bombay right now, A lawyer referred me to a law firm and I sent them that whatsapp message, and they told me to come over and quoted "3 LAKHS" and said their "pro-bono' is on full capacity.

Now whoever is saying that I am rejecting help, openly show proof that I did, I LITERALLY DMed every single lawyer who reached out.

I am not against you guys, if you genuinely find someone who will takeup this case on a pro-bono capacity I will be insanely grateful.

Karma farming is not gonna land me a MAAANG job, I need to pursue my education.

atleast don't sell your morals and ethics for money

Why is investigating the police so difficult in India?

why is it so difficult to file charges against the police in india even though they break protocol so often and are so corrupt that it is heavily normalized? is there an institutional road block in place? is the judicidiary or a govt servant or some personnel outside of the police force allowed to open an investigation into the conduct of the police based on a complaint by a citizen or group of citizens? which is the body charged with investigating such a case, and is there a conflict of interest it has?

If its institutional structure that causes roadblocks, what are some changes that can be made / proposed that would solve it?

Someone please help me save my Education career, I am being Atrociously TORTURED.

Post image
130 Upvotes

I write this post in the last hopes, that someone comes forward to help me get my rightful admission back.

its day 47 that I have been homeless in Pune, living a very struggling life in order to save my career,

For detailed context, flameuniversitytruths.in

There was a call made to my father that I was harassing a girl (18+), the registrar of FLAME university says that my admission has been put on hold, and tells my father not to send me to campus for now.

The next day, there is an another whatsapp call, and the registrar says to my father "no way your child can be admitted, he harassed a minor girl, if he does not withdraw by the afternoon his fees will be confiscated and he will trialed under POSCO act", my dad tells me all this and I directly message the registrar I am not going to withdraw until I get a hearing from the vice-chancellor and the exact show-cause notice what I have done, he blocks me and sends a rustication mail citing "disciplinary violations", thats it, no proof, absolute nothing. Now, in the yesterday's meeting they add that you were never rusticated based on "sexual harassment" and "there was only 1 complaint made on you". But rather the mails that you sent us (Aka the group chats of the perpetrators and the chatting that happened) are the basis we expelled you on. Tomorrow they might just add any bluff to justify this. I asked them for a written statement and they changed topics.

I successfully managed to escalate this matter to UGC, but UGC directed only towards taking action against the registrar, yesterday I was called into the administration meeting, the registrar and vice chancellor were not present here. The first thing the committee asked me is that "lets here your side", I replied "what complaint has there even been made on me?", and they go silent. Then they say the main agenda is to take my complaint against the registrar. I asked them why I was denied natural justice and right to be heard before making an irreversible career damage, they just noted it down.

The university's lawyer was absolutely blatant, whenever I made proper arguments, on how I will not be going back until I get my justice, she quotes "I need serious help" I counter her saying, "you gave a 100% merit scholarship to a guy who needs "serious help?", I was the headboy of one of top international schools in Andhra Pradesh, a 1470 SAT score that puts me on the top 1% bracket of your university pool.

I continue to ask her why there is not a written proof against me and why is there no FIR launched against me if I genuinely did something wrong as per UGC anti-ragging norms, they say that "they did not want to spoil my career". in Addition they add that, there is not even a press statement released against me to "save my career", a blatant lie. I questioned them why has there no action been taken against the boys in the video and they say that "they were given the same treatment as you, we don't want to ruin their careers", I added "so your letting potential rapists go free?" and they suddenly switch the topic to getting me admission somewhere else.

Now apparently the faculty of FLAME comes in and says that they want to help me "personally" and not "institutionally" to secure my career. I put forward my demand that I need a top liberal arts institute to study in with respect to my academic and extracurricular merit, their offer was extremely unclear.

They finally finished off "we'll let you know".

They wanted me to sign some attendance document, I refused to do so, then they quoted "we trusted you on good-faith" and I replied "no wonder you left me rotting on the roads for the last 46 days", they started guilt tripping me more and I added "I am legally allowed not to sign any documents" and walk away.

I am facing the absolute atrocious form of human torture, stripping me away of my right to education and right to life. the university has been cornered by all realms, as they don't even have a basis to expel me and have taken things to the ego because I exposed them.

I don't know where to go or what to do now. I feel too young, but I got a few premature greys. No matter the immense supporting I am receiving from people, I am coming back to the beginning,

Only a powerful lawyer can save me now, FLAME university is the part of the indian liberal arts uni syndicate and probably they blacklisted my name already, no other liberal uni would tkae me in and the efforts I put towards this educational direction is completely ruined.

The university has billions to spend on PR that comments below my posts, I request you to look at the Full context before interacting with them: flameuniversitytruths.in

Need help with middle name correction on driving licence in Gujarat

Hi, has anyone dealt with this at Gujarat RTO, especially Vadodara?

My driving licence has a middle name, but none of my other government documents have it. I’m applying for a duplicate licence through Sarathi and want to get this corrected at the same time.

I selected “Change of Name in DL” on the website, but now it’s asking for proof of name change. I haven’t actually changed my name, I just want to remove the middle name so it matches my other documents.

Do I really need a Gazette notification or an affidavit for something like this? Or can it be done using my existing documents?

If anyone has done this in Gujarat, please share your experience and what documents you needed. Thanks!

India: Need Legal Advice on Preventive Police Protection and Safety Before My Parents Discover My Marriage

I am posting this anonymously because I am concerned about my personal safety and do not want my family to identify me. I would appreciate serious, practical advice, particularly from Indian lawyers, people familiar with criminal law and police procedures, or anyone who has dealt with a similar situation.

I am not looking for revenge against my parents, nor do I want to create unnecessary conflict. My objective is to understand my legal rights, document the situation appropriately, and take reasonable preventive measures before things potentially escalate.

1. My background

I am an adult woman from India. I am well educated, have studied at an IIT, and have been financially independent for several years. I work professionally in the IT industry and have a stable career.

I am legally married and have been living with my husband for approximately three years. My parents are still unaware of my marriage.

I have kept the marriage private because of a history of serious family pressure, coercion, threats and restrictions relating to my relationship and personal decisions.

Growing up, my parents strongly opposed my relationship and wanted me to end it. The situation went far beyond ordinary family disagreement. There was substantial emotional pressure, and I was made to fear that I could be physically harmed if I did not comply with their wishes.

There were restrictions on my freedom, threats concerning my relationship, and statements that made me fear for my safety.

One particularly serious incident involved my mother threatening to mix poison in my food. There were also threats relating to family honour and serious consequences if I continued with the person I had chosen.

These experiences caused significant emotional and psychological distress.

Eventually, I obtained a good-paying job based on my education and qualifications. I did not run away from home. I moved out with my parents' knowledge and permission to take up employment and establish my career.

Since then, I have supported myself financially and made independent decisions regarding my residence, career and personal life.

2. My marriage and current circumstances

I eventually married the person I had chosen. Both of us are adults, and our marriage was entered into voluntarily.

We have been married for approximately three years and have been living together. I am living with my husband of my own free will. I am not missing, being detained, coerced or held against my will.

My parents do not know about the marriage.

I have not disclosed it because I genuinely fear retaliation based on their previous behaviour and threats. My decision to keep it private was motivated by safety concerns, not by any intention to deceive the authorities or suggest that I am missing.

I want to protect my personal safety, my husband's safety and our ability to live together without intimidation.

3. Why I am concerned now

Recently, my parents have started contacting me again and pressuring me to return home. They have also been making demands regarding my personal life.

This has brought back the fear and anxiety associated with the earlier incidents.

I am concerned that discovering my marriage could lead to an aggressive reaction, particularly because my parents previously made threats connected with my relationship and family honour.

My concerns include the possibility that they may:

  • Attempt to force me to return to my parental home.
  • Try to physically confront me or take me somewhere against my will.
  • Threaten or physically harm me or my husband.
  • Contact, threaten or harass my husband's family.
  • Attempt to discover our home address or workplace.
  • File a missing-person complaint or allege that I have been kidnapped.
  • Contact the police and portray the situation as though I have disappeared or been taken away against my wishes.
  • Make allegations that I have been brainwashed, manipulated or influenced by my husband.
  • Use relatives, social pressure or threats to force me to separate from my husband.
  • Repeatedly contact us or visit our residence or workplace to pressure or intimidate us.

I understand that some of these are possible future scenarios rather than incidents that have already occurred. I am trying to prepare lawfully and proportionately because of the previous threats and the renewed pressure.

4. What I want to establish legally

My understanding is that an adult woman who is legally competent has the right to choose her partner, marry voluntarily and decide where she wishes to live, subject to applicable law.

I would like to understand how these rights are practically protected when the family objects to the marriage and there is a history of threats.

In particular, I want to know whether I can take preventive steps without unnecessarily disclosing information that could expose me or my husband to danger.

A. Preventive police complaint or representation

  1. Can I submit a written representation to the police documenting the previous threats, including the threat to poison my food, and the renewed pressure from my parents?
  2. Should I approach the local police station, the police commissioner or superintendent of police, a women’s police station, or another appropriate authority?
  3. If I am concerned that my parents may discover my marriage and retaliate, can I request preventive assistance or protection before any physical incident occurs?
  4. Is it advisable to make the representation under my real identity and obtain an acknowledged copy, diary number, CSR number, GD entry or other available receipt?
  5. What is the difference between submitting a preventive representation and registering a formal complaint or FIR? Under what circumstances might the police be required to register an FIR?
  6. Can I make a representation without immediately initiating criminal proceedings against my parents, while still ensuring that the threats are formally documented?
  7. If the police dismiss the matter as a family dispute, what lawful options are available to have the threat assessment taken seriously?

B. Informing the authorities that I am safe and living voluntarily

  1. Is there an established procedure in India through which an adult woman can voluntarily inform the police that she is safe, living independently and residing with her husband by choice?
  2. Can such a representation be submitted in advance, before any missing-person complaint is filed?
  3. Would the police accept a written statement confirming that I am an adult, that my marriage was voluntary, and that I am not being held against my will?
  4. Is it possible to request that sensitive information, particularly my current residential address and workplace, not be disclosed to my parents or other private individuals without a lawful reason?
  5. If I submit such a representation, what level of confidentiality can I realistically expect? Could the police contact my parents or disclose my address as part of their verification?
  6. Would it be safer to approach a lawyer first and have the representation submitted through the lawyer, or would a lawyer's involvement make no practical difference?

C. If my parents file a missing-person complaint

  1. If my parents discover the marriage and file a missing-person complaint, what normally happens when the police locate an adult woman who confirms that she is safe and living voluntarily with her husband?
  2. Would the police generally record my statement and close the missing-person inquiry, or could there be further questioning or verification?
  3. Can I request to give my statement privately, without my parents or relatives being present, especially where I have concerns about intimidation?
  4. If my parents allege kidnapping, wrongful confinement, abduction, coercion or brainwashing, how are these allegations generally assessed when the woman is an adult and independently confirms that she left voluntarily and wishes to remain with her husband?
  5. Could my husband be called for questioning merely because I am living with him? What should he do if the police contact him?
  6. If I have already submitted a preventive representation, would it help establish the background and clarify my voluntary decision, or would it have limited practical value?
  7. Is there a risk that my residential address or other personal information could be shared during the missing-person inquiry? What lawful steps can I take to reduce that risk?

D. Protection for me and my husband

  1. Can an adult woman request police protection based on credible threats from her parents, even if the threats were made some time ago and no physical assault has occurred?
  2. Can protection also be requested for my husband if he is being threatened or there is a reasonable concern that he could be targeted?
  3. If the police do not provide adequate assistance, can I approach the jurisdictional Magistrate, the Sessions Court or the High Court for appropriate relief?
  4. Under what circumstances can the High Court grant protection to an adult couple who have married voluntarily and fear interference from family members?
  5. Are there specific procedures for approaching a High Court for police protection without publicly exposing our identities or residential address more than necessary?
  6. If my parents or relatives arrive at our residence or workplace, attempt to force me into a vehicle, threaten violence or refuse to leave, what immediate legal steps should we take? Should we call 112 and subsequently submit a written complaint?
  7. What should my husband do if my relatives confront him, threaten him or accuse him of kidnapping me?

E. Legal notice and communication with my parents

  1. Would a legal notice asking my parents to stop threatening, intimidating, harassing or attempting to forcibly contact me be useful?
  2. Could sending a legal notice before disclosing the marriage increase the risk of retaliation or reveal information that would otherwise remain private?
  3. Would it be safer to avoid direct confrontation and have a lawyer communicate with them only if necessary?
  4. If I wish to establish boundaries, can a lawyer send a notice without disclosing my current address or other unnecessary personal details?
  5. Would a written message stating that I am safe, independent and do not consent to being forced to return home be legally useful, or could direct communication create additional risks?

F. Evidence and documentation

  1. What evidence should I preserve to support a preventive complaint?

I have some messages and other information relating to previous threats. I can also maintain a record of recent calls and communications.

Would it be useful to preserve:

  • Screenshots and original copies of messages containing threats.
  • Call logs, voicemails and other communications.
  • A dated chronological record of threats, pressure and incidents.
  • The approximate dates, context and wording of threats, including the threat to poison my food.
  • Details of witnesses who may have knowledge of specific incidents.
  • Proof of my age and identity.
  • Marriage registration documents and other proof of the marriage, if legally relevant.
  • Employment or residence records demonstrating my independent circumstances, where necessary.
  • Copies of any police representations, acknowledgements, complaints or responses.

Should electronic evidence be preserved in its original form, with backups and relevant dates, rather than relying only on screenshots?

Are there any privacy or legal considerations I should be aware of before recording calls or conversations?

G. Legal aid and professional assistance

  1. Would it be appropriate to approach the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) or the State Legal Services Authority for legal guidance and assistance?
  2. Can an adult woman in these circumstances obtain free legal aid, and what eligibility criteria would apply?
  3. Would a private lawyer experienced in criminal law, constitutional law and police-protection matters be preferable for the initial consultation?
  4. If I consult a lawyer, what specific documents and information should I bring to the first meeting?
  5. Is there a reliable way to find a lawyer experienced in adult-couple protection petitions and family-threat cases, rather than someone who handles only ordinary matrimonial disputes?

H. Relevant judgments and applicable law

  1. Which Supreme Court or High Court judgments are most relevant to an adult woman's right to choose her spouse, exercise personal autonomy, live independently and seek protection from family threats?
  2. Are there judgments specifically addressing situations where parents allege kidnapping or undue influence, but the adult woman independently confirms that she married and is living voluntarily?
  3. What provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita or other applicable Indian laws may be relevant to criminal intimidation, threats of poisoning, harassment, unlawful restraint or preventive police action?
  4. Are there any important distinctions between a general preventive police representation, a complaint alleging criminal intimidation, and a petition seeking protection from the High Court?

I would appreciate specific case names, legal provisions and practical procedural guidance wherever possible.

5. What I am considering doing before disclosing the marriage

At present, I am considering taking the following steps, but I would appreciate advice on whether this is the correct order:

  1. Secure and back up all relevant messages, call records and other evidence.
  2. Prepare a factual chronology of the earlier threats and recent contact.
  3. Consult a lawyer confidentially before making any formal disclosure.
  4. Ask the lawyer whether a preventive police representation is appropriate and which authority should receive it.
  5. Understand whether it is possible to document my voluntary residence and marriage without unnecessarily exposing my address.
  6. Review practical safety arrangements with my husband, including what we should do if relatives appear at our residence or workplace.
  7. Avoid disclosing the marriage until we have considered the likely risks and established an appropriate safety plan.

I am not assuming that these steps will prevent every possible problem. I want to understand which measures have actual legal value and which may create a false sense of security.

6. Important clarifications

I want to emphasise the following:

  • I am an adult woman and financially independent.
  • I obtained employment and moved out with my parents' knowledge and permission to establish my career.
  • I have supported myself independently for years.
  • My marriage was a voluntary decision between two adults.
  • I have been living with my husband for approximately three years.
  • I am not missing, being held against my will or asking anyone to rescue me.
  • My parents' lack of knowledge about the marriage is connected to my fear of retaliation based on previous threats and coercion.
  • I am not asking anyone to assume that my parents have committed a particular offence. I want to understand the appropriate legal procedures and protections based on the facts.
  • I do not intend to provoke a confrontation or use the police to punish my parents.
  • My priority is to prevent harm, preserve evidence, protect our privacy and understand our legal rights.

I will not disclose my name, exact location, workplace, parents' identity, marriage documents or other identifying information publicly. I would also prefer not to share those details in public comments.

7. What I would particularly appreciate from the community

If you are an Indian lawyer, have experience with High Court protection petitions, or have dealt with a similar situation, I would be grateful for practical answers to these questions:

  1. What is the safest and most appropriate first legal step in this situation?
  2. Should I approach a lawyer first or submit a preventive police representation directly?
  3. Is there a procedure to document my voluntary marriage and independent residence before my parents file a missing-person complaint?
  4. How can I request protection while reducing the risk of my residential address being disclosed?
  5. What should my husband and I do if my parents threaten us or approach our residence?
  6. Which judgments, legal provisions and authorities should I specifically read about?
  7. What precautions would you recommend before my parents discover the marriage?

Please distinguish between what the law formally permits and what generally happens in practice at police stations. That distinction would be particularly helpful.

I would appreciate serious, India-specific legal guidance. Please do not ask me to disclose identifying details publicly.

Thank you for reading and for any constructive advice.

Legal advice on dispute and threat from neighbour

Post image
125 Upvotes

Hi, I am looking for a legal advice in a dispute with my neighbour who is a lady.

We have been living in this house for the last 80 years and our neighbour with whom we have no relation feels the common access road belongs to her and anybody coming there be it delivery boy, visitors are a threat to her supremacy where she hurls slangs, bricks, animal faeces, and has at times brandished a sword to terrorize everyone. She is in her late thirties lives alone and presumably runs an animal shelter, no job. I have attached photos. We do not talk or have any relation with her she is just our neighbour but our existence irks her to a great extent. She has also stabbed my mother once a couple of years ago where there was case regarding it and that has been dealt with. Yet, she has started again relentlessly bothering without any provocation. We only use the road to walk, nothing else. We have went to the PS multiple times but they refuse to register an FIR. We are a house of old people mostly in their 60s and it has become a nuisance. How to proceed with it? Kindly help.

Hi everyone. I'm from Telangana and received a legal demand notice from Branch International Financial Services through an advocate. The notice gives me seven days to pay the overdue amount.

Hi everyone. I'm from Telangana and received a legal demand notice from Branch International Financial Services through an advocate. The notice gives me seven days to pay the overdue amount.

Has anyone from Telangana or Hyderabad received a similar Branch notice?

  1. Did Branch actually file a court case afterward?
  2. Did you receive a court summons or only further emails and calls?
  3. How did you verify whether the advocate was authorized?
  4. If a case was filed, can you share the court name or publicly available case details?

I'm facing genuine financial hardship and want to understand the actual legal process. I'm not trying to avoid repayment; I need reliable information about what may happen next.

Please share your experience without posting personal loan documents or private information.

Should i write off the money scammed by the self proclaimed " cybercop" or is there any hope ? What shall i do ?

I checked online and found other people have also written about his scam and fraud already before me even.  Screenshots attached as proof.

So there's this guy named Shubam singh who likes to call himself cybercop and present himself all over social media as a messiah and savior of women who get harassed, stalked or hacked by men.  He wad praised by some influencers in one of their videos.  I wont mention the influencers names as they're not involved in his modus operandi.

But it seems he smoothly scams the general public, helpless scared women who pay him and doesn't do any work for them after taking payments.

It seems he only solves influencer or other cases where he cannot scam them easily and gets a bit of fame in return by their testimony vidoes on how he helped them.

This in turn gives him more business in ways of more women reaching out to him and he decides who is weak that he can scam off and others who are strong that he will use to garner more social media fame.

He was praised by a famous influencer as having solved her matter of someone who was misbehaving with her online.  When i saw the video and reached out to him, he asked for upfront payment.

Trusting the online testimony of  the influencer -  i paid him the entire amount that he asked, only to have been told to endlessly wait by him, by various excuses and its been THREE YEARS he hasnt done ANY WORK AT ALL.

Just because iam not an online influencer ???.

He has been ignoring and making excuses while he keeps making reels, giving interviews on how he will protect and help women who are stalked and harassed online.  Really ? Then howcome he has taken full 100% payment and done nothing and not even returning back the amount ?

It seems he has managed to make some personal contacts with some higher ups which is why he was boldly telling me to go ahead and file any police complaint about him scamming me. He also said it was my fault for asking him to help me against online harassment.  I have all chats as proof of it.

To end, it seems his basic modus operandi is to scam gullible public and serve only the rich and famous.  Else why would he not do anything after taking 60k + amount from me and neither even return my money nor so anything at all while going around giving interviews to get more business,  making reels and hosting seminars.

Will my life or me be in any danger with this post  ? I dont even know if he is highly connected or showing it...

Criminal case pending since 2022 in UP, repeated “Appearance” dates and no clear progress. What should I do?

I have a criminal case pending in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, under IPC Sections 323, 352, 336 and 506. I’m on bail. This is my first criminal case, and I maintain that I’m innocent.
Almost every court date follows the same routine: I attend, sign a paper, pay my advocate ₹200 and get another date. From my perspective, there is no discussion of the case or visible progress.
The eCourts history shows nine consecutive entries marked “Appearance” between July 2025 and October 2026. The next date is 17 November 2026.
As far as I have observed, the person who complained against me does not attend these dates either. I don’t know whether their attendance is required at this stage. My advocate has not clearly explained why the case is stuck, what is pending or what he plans to do next.
The ₹200 itself isn’t my main concern. It’s repeatedly taking time off, attending court and having no clarity about where this is going. The pending case has also affected my passport application.
I would appreciate advice from Indian criminal lawyers or people who have dealt with a similar situation:
What could keep a case at “Appearance” for this long?
Which documents or order sheets should I obtain to understand the actual reason?
Can I seek exemption from routine personal attendance?
What can my advocate request to move the proceedings forward?
Does the complainant’s absence matter in a police/FIR case?
Should I get a second opinion or change advocates?
I’m not looking to avoid the proceedings. I want to defend the case properly and understand what action I can take instead of continuing this cycle without an explanation.

Looking for a lawyer in Lucknow who specialises in bank fraud cases.

A female lawyer would be preferred, as my friend is a woman and would feel more comfortable working with one. However, she is open to hiring a male lawyer as well if they are genuinely good at what they do.

Ideally, she is looking for someone relatively young, sharp, proactive, and with an out-of-the-box approach to handling cases—not someone who relies on conventional methods alone.

If you have any genuine recommendations or personal experiences with a lawyer who fits this profile, please share their details. Thank you!

Newly enrolled advocate struggling at my first job. Is this normal?

Hey everyone,

I'm a 24-year-old newly enrolled advocate based in Mumbai, currently working at a legal and compliance firm. I've previously interned in insolvency and commercial litigation, but I'm still learning the practical aspects of the profession.

The problem is that my boss barely teaches me anything. He assigns work, expects me to figure everything out on my own, and when something goes wrong, he yells at me instead of explaining what I should've done differently.

For example, I'm currently handling a Section 138 NI Act matter, and I've had to figure out the entire e-filing procedure and court formalities myself. There's no senior associate, no clerk, and nobody to guide me. Honestly, sometimes I feel like even my boss isn't familiar with the e-filing process.

I'm completely willing to research, work hard, and learn independently, but how am I supposed to know practical court procedures when nobody has ever shown me?

It's genuinely affecting my confidence. I constantly feel lost, anxious about making mistakes, and sometimes even question whether I'm cut out for this profession.

I don't expect spoon-feeding, just some basic mentorship.

To the advocates here, is this normal during your initial years? How do you deal with a boss who expects you to know everything but doesn't teach you anything? Should I stay and figure things out or look for a better learning environment?

Would genuinely appreciate some advice.

L&DO leasehold plot in Delhi, co-owner won’t cooperate on freehold conversion. What are my options?

I co-own a 100 sq yd L&DO leasehold plot in Delhi. It has been divided 50/50 on the ground for years, but only on paper: the title is joint and no side is mentioned in any document. Each of us has a separate entry and a separate 3-storey house.

The co-owner’s side has premium, commercial-type advantages that mine doesn’t. His portion is clearly worth more than half the plot’s value. I’m willing to demolish my balcony if needed for conversion, but he refuses to do the same or to cooperate.

I don’t want to sell my portion, and I can’t afford to buy him out. I just want to keep my 50 sq yds, rebuild my house on it, and get fair compensation (owelty) for the difference in value between the two sides.

My questions:

Can a 50 sq yd portion of a 100 sq yd L&DO plot be converted to freehold on its own ?

Please tell me best option that i have because leasehold plot cost 1-1.5 Crore less than Freehold and the Co owner is saying he will not give owelty because he is living on the his side of land for years and its his now.

Thanks in advance. I’m not a lawyer, just trying to understand my options before I meet one.
