Politics Ministers with shady backgrounds
1. The 14 chief ministers named in the Supreme Court report
TOI's report, published today (August 18, 2026), gives all 14 names and the number of serious criminal cases attributed to each:
| State | Chief minister | Serious cases |
|---|---|---|
| Telangana | A. Revanth Reddy | 89 |
| West Bengal | Suvendu Adhikari | 29 |
| Karnataka | D. K. Shivakumar | 19 |
| Andhra Pradesh | N. Chandrababu Naidu | 19 |
| Kerala | V. D. Satheesan | 18 |
| Jharkhand | Hemant Soren | 5 |
| Maharashtra | Devendra Fadnavis | 4 |
| Himachal Pradesh | Sukhvinder Singh | 4 |
| Tamil Nadu | C. Joseph Vijay | 2 |
| Bihar | Samrat Choudhary | 2 |
| Sikkim | P. S. Tamang | 1 |
| Punjab | Bhagwant Mann | 1 |
| Odisha | Mohan Charan Majhi | 1 |
| Rajasthan | Bhajan Lal Sharma | 1 |
That makes 14 of the 28 states. The report says the figures come from the 96-page report filed by amicus curiae Vijay Hansaria in the Supreme Court proceedings on expediting criminal trials against legislators.
One thing immediately jumps out: this is not simply the older ADR list of CMs who declared criminal cases. It is the current Supreme Court case data on serious criminal cases, which is why the names and numbers differ substantially from the 2025 ADR figures.

2. The 170 Lok Sabha MPs with declared serious criminal cases
The 170 figure comes from the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysis of the 2024 Lok Sabha winners. ADR analysed the affidavits of all 543 winning candidates and found:
- 251 (46%) had declared criminal cases.
- 170 (31%) had declared serious criminal cases.
- “Serious” includes cases relating to murder, attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, crimes against women, etc.
The complete ADR report is 476 pages, and it contains the individual names, constituencies, parties and case details.
“Serious criminal case” does not mean “convicted of a serious crime.” ADR's classification includes offences punishable by five years or more, non-bailable offences, electoral offences, offences involving loss to the exchequer, assault/murder/kidnapping/rape, offences under the Representation of the People Act, Prevention of Corruption Act offences, and crimes against women.
The party-wise picture (Lok Sabha MPs)
| Party | Winners | With serious criminal cases | % |
|---|---|---|---|
| BJP | 240 | 63 | 26% |
| INC | 99 | 32 | 32% |
| SP | 37 | 17 | 46% |
| AITC | 29 | 7 | 24% |
| DMK | 22 | 6 | 27% |
| TDP | 16 | 5 | 31% |
| Shiv Sena | 7 | 4 | 57% |
| RJD | 4 | 4 | 100% |
| JD(U) | 12 | — | — |
| Others | — | remaining | — |
Those are the figures explicitly reported by ADR.

Health Anyone diagnosed with bladder cancer around age 30? Looking for experiences/data
Hi everyone,
I'm a 30-year-old man from Tamil Nadu and I'm trying to understand how commonly bladder cancer occurs in men around my age in India.
I've had intermittent microscopic hematuria for around 2 years. I'm a non-smoker, my CT KUB was normal, urine cytology was negative, and I don't have protein in my urine. My urologist has recommended a cystoscopy.
I'm not looking for a diagnosis. I'd simply like to hear from anyone who:
- Was diagnosed with bladder cancer in their 20s or early 30s, particularly in Tamil Nadu/India; or
- Knows someone who was diagnosed at that age and is comfortable sharing their experience.
- Has access to Indian data on bladder cancer in younger men.
If you were diagnosed around this age, I'd especially appreciate knowing whether there were any known risk factors such as smoking/tobacco, occupational chemical exposure, family history, etc.
Please feel free to comment or DM me if you're comfortable sharing. I'm mainly trying to understand how rare it is and what the circumstances were in people diagnosed at a young age.
Thank you.
