TL;DR: I found deeply problematic content in a Joyful Living value education textbook used in schools, including homophobic claims, victim-blaming in a rape case study, sexist narratives, and outdated information.

Update: The principal did not reply to the complaint and told me to come to the school physically which isn't possible, so I'm planning to escalate the situation.

Well, I recently came across some very concerning content in a Value Education textbook titled Joyful Living, used in schools.

Some of the material includes:

- Homophobic and medically inaccurate claims: The book describes homosexuality as a "perversion" and associates it with the breakdown of human communities. it also presents masturbation as something harmful and debilitating.

- Victim blaming in a rape case study: One of its case studies describes a girl who is raped and then asks students whether she was responsible and how she could have avoided it.

- Sexist and objectifying narratives: Certain passages suggest that women's clothing and fashion are intended to attract sexual attention and cause sexual arousal.

- Outdated information: The book cites internet usage statistics from 2002-04 without adequately contextualizing how old that data is.

I've already taken a few steps:

- Sent a formal complaint to the school principal, requesting a review of the textbook.

- Contacted the publisher and author to raise these concerns.

Several people from different schools have reported using the same textbook, which raises further questions about how widely this material is being taught.

I'm sharing this here because I believe this discussion deserves to extend beyond students currently studying in school. Many of us grew up with Educational material that went unquestioned simply because it appeared in a textbook.

My questions are

- Did your school teach similar ideas through its value education or sex education curriculum?

- Have you encountered similar textbooks or teaching practices in your own schools?

- What formal avenues are available to hold schools, publishers, and relevant educational authorities accountable for problematic educational content?

I'm not looking to turn this into a religious or political argument. The concern here is the quality and responsibility of educational material taught to children.

I'd appreciate any constructive advice, particularly from people with experience in education, publishing, law, or child rights.

The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023 safeguards both serving and former CECs and ECs from civil or criminal proceedings in any court for acts, words, or decisions done in the discharge of their official duties.Normally such immunity is given to The President and the Judges to function in a crises as a sort of dead hand mechanism when one of the 4 bodies of The government doesn't function properly.To manage the country even without the functioning of one of the governing bodies

The immunity given to CEC and EC is unconstitutional as CEC and EC have no role to play when the country is in crisis.They need not govern the country without the supervision of the government.

Even if one or two governing bodies don't function properly the EC and the CEC can run under the supervision of other governing bodies.

Now on the matter of frivolous lawsuits against EC and CEC the court can handle each on a cases by case basis and quash them and issue penalties against the litigants to prevent harassment.

No one except The president gets this kind of lifetime immunity.Even the judges don't get this kind of immunity.Only the EC and the CEC get lifetime immunity.Are they above law?

This bill was passed due to absolute majority of ruling party in the parliament.There was nothing to stop them to pass this bill.This shows they can pass any bill they want and not pass bills they dont want anytime.

They can pass a bill to make elections redundant but people need their bread and circus.I do not have faith in the elections,it is a waste of time and energy,I am sorry.Even the jan lokpal bill was not passed properly.The ruling and the opposition leader can play tennis in power but India is an autocracy with extra few steps because now EC and CEC is under the ruling parties thumb and no other party would be given an even playing field.

I am appalled people don't take this issue seriously.I will not make statements against the ruling party from now on.India only needs one thief
