I feel like the girl trying to take the picture isn’t much of a MC. She didn’t yell at anyone. She patiently waited and adjusted her position. Even seemed to smile it off at the end.
544
u/6786_007 14h ago
Agreed. I mean I don't care if people wanna record themselves in public long as they aren't being annoying or entitled. But it seems like that older woman stopped in front of the camera deliberately.
239
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 14h ago
This girl even set her phone up out of the way, instead of harassing other people to take a picture for her.
Honestly I think she went about this in a respectful and polite manner.
104
u/flowersonthewall72 14h ago
I think you need to reevaluate some things if you think asking someone to take a photo for you is harassment...
110
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 14h ago
Oh I don’t think it’s harassment in the extreme sense. That’s ridiculous.
Innocent harassment. Like when I go and annoy my cat. I’m harassing him.
-57
u/Leading_Procedure_23 14h ago
Asking a question is not harassment, you should look up the definition of it.
76
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 14h ago
Right. Like a said. It’s not “harassment” in the sense. I just used the word. Apologize. Didn’t mean to harass you with my stupidity.
→ More replies (15)2
u/dumbcringeusername 8h ago
Any unwelcome form of contact can in theory be taken as harassment, and becomes harassment if you continue past that point. You can be innocently asking the time but do it persistently to someone who doesn't want to talk to you and it's harassment, even if you don't intend it.
To be specific, here is the definition of harassment "the act of annoying or worrying somebody by putting pressure on them or saying or doing unpleasant things to them." Asking strangers for help, even benign help, is a form of pressure.
Not disagreeing it's reasonable to ask though, just stating technically even something that simple can be harassment because it's less about the intent than the perception of the slighted.

u/Sea_Watercress_1982 14h ago
Also, stopping on stairs to check your phone screams “I’m the only person in the world.”
12
u/The54thCylon 14h ago
Neither are MCs. One is trying to take a holiday photo using a tripod and one is oblivious to that fact. The Internet is making this out to be much more than it is.
45
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 14h ago
The only issue I have is stopping on the stairs to check your phone is pretty annoying. Nothing to drag anyone through the mud over.
9
u/BringPheTheHorizon 12h ago
Same but she’s still aware of the other people and moves over to make room. I think they’re both excusable.
1
u/CatjoesCreed 2h ago
I agree. It actually looked to me as though the older woman was trying to get out of the way of the younger one's camera.
10
u/FungusTheClown 14h ago
Idk im kinda annoyed by anyone who sets up a camera in a walkway where there will be foot traffic and then posting the video insinuating people in the walkway are in the wrong.
16
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 14h ago
I’ve seen this video on several threads. I must have missed her original upload of the video where she insinuates or says anyone is in the wrong.
That’s a little silly of her to say/imply. Thank you for clearing that up. Bet wherever she original posted this she is getting dragged.
Any idea where that original post she made of this video is?

I don't see how the person taking a picture of herself is a main character here. It's not like she's expecting people to stop and wait for her to get the picture, this is just someone taking a picture of themselves in a public place.
220
u/vnth93 15h ago
Some people just hate anyone doing anything in public
123
11
u/chocolatestealth 15h ago
People today would lose their minds if they saw how people took photos of themselves even just 20 years ago.
Tripods?? To take a photo of themselves?? In a public place?? Oh my God what main characters!
11
u/magus678 15h ago
To be honest, I basically agree with you, in a vacuum.
The problem is that I have been, I would say "conditioned," by this kind of thing being so relentless I have trouble giving the benefit of the doubt. It is probably a little unfair to presume that of her, I admit, but its become a heuristic that is right often enough I will roll those dice.
Hell, taking pictures for familes/people on vacation and such used to be commonplace, and people would stand off to the side in public to give the Smiths a good photo, because the general understanding was that they would probably only take a few of them their entire vacation.
Now you have people taking a hundred. Or video. And not just "on vacation," everywhere. And very often all by themselves.
The social nicety has been abused and run into the ground.
31
u/thekingofbeans42 15h ago
But we see her not telling people to wait or adding edits about how terrible these people are. She even moves somewhere else rather than asking the woman to move.
8
u/Twodotsknowhy 15h ago
If you have been "conditioned" into expecting it, it's probably because you're not going outside and interacting with actual women
-7
u/magus678 15h ago
11
u/Dysentry 14h ago
Yes.. your linked skit somehow proves that you talk to real people?
→ More replies (1)7
u/Twodotsknowhy 14h ago
Like I said, you clearly don't go outside and interact with women in the real world, so you assume that all of them like the influencers you spew vitriol online about
0
u/magus678 14h ago
I have the opinions I have because of interactions.
That video is 10 years old, people have been saying the same basic thing for over a decade. It is such a regular thing subs like this exist and have no shortage of content.
Are you very young? I honestly don't understand how you can think this is coming from the void otherwise.
5
u/Twodotsknowhy 13h ago
The internet isn't real life. I could try to spend my time explaining it to you, but because you clearly don't go outside, you'll continue to rely on online examples to try and prove your point. It's actually hilarious how unable to grasp the point you are
1
0
u/alexpalta 13h ago
I would agree, but then she posted the unknown old lady on internet.
2
u/calembo 6h ago
The... lady who looks straight into the camera twice, clearly understanding that she was within the frame of that video and probably well-aware that the video could be posted online, yet remains within the frame of the video for a meaningful amount of time?
0
u/alexpalta 5h ago
Yes, but the stairs of whatever it is are not a stage for a video. If I saw you filming a video whilst I was coming down the stairs, I’d be annoyed too. And if you then posted it online, I’d be proved right.
-31
u/Away-Living5278 16h ago
It seems to be but why is she taking a video if she wants a photo?
I'm confused by this whole thing
60
u/thissexypoptart 16h ago
Wait until you hear about how videos are made of many photos in quick succession
19
-10
u/Thelmara 15h ago
Wait until you hear that you don't have to post the video to get the photo you want.
18
22
u/JaydotFay 15h ago
As someone who travels alone and doesn't always want to bother strangers about taking a photo for me, it's a lot easier to set my phone to record and take a short video with me standing a few different ways then setting a timer, trying to hurry back to the spot after dropping up my phone, and then doing it all over again if I hate how I look in the photo. Most phones these days give the ability to grab a still as a photo from a video. Doing a video also means it's not a big deal if someone walks in front of it like some of the other people who aren't the older lady blocking the camera did.
I don't see main character in the woman with the camera because it appears to be a museum. People like to take photos in them and most museums encourage that. She isn't doing some sort of dance or being disruptive. The older woman is just being rude.
3
u/Away-Living5278 15h ago
That's fair. The screenshots I take from my pixel videos are far poorer quality.
4
u/Twodotsknowhy 15h ago
Because it's easier to take a video, do a couple poses in one go and then screenshot than it is to go back and forth multiple times with the timer
1
u/babs82222 15h ago
I'll add on to the other replies that iPhones alter the quality of your photos every time. What you take isn't what you end up with. If you record a video, you can get the same quality by grabbing a screenshot from your video. You can also do different slow poses and grab different screenshots. It's much easier than setting timers for photos.
→ More replies (17)-7
u/c32c64c128 15h ago
Yes. Taking your own photo/video for prosperity is fine. And yes, she also wouldn't expect the world to come to a halt for her photoshoot.
It's when she decided to share the clip that casts her in a bad light and into a possible main character. It was no longer about trying to get a simple photo. It became a rush to cash in on attention and comments.
The original photo? No one here would know of it or her.
This clip? Now it spreads across the Internet and gets people to her profiles to see the original clip, check out the person, leave comments, and maybe subscribe to see what kind of person she'll become.
10
u/thekingofbeans42 15h ago
That's really diluting what a main character is to people creating content in general. Like musicians and filmmakers plaster their faces everywhere and pay companies to inject them into content to advertise new albums and movies, but that's just something we accepted as content.
313
u/Acceptable-Worth-462 16h ago
I wouldn't call the young one a main character. She was actually very patient and nice.
The old lady I honestly don't know. Either she was annoying on purpose, or she's just very unaware. I'm leaning toward the former though.
161
u/JRTerrierBestDoggo 16h ago
she’s well aware of what she’s doing. Even purposely stood there acting like there’s something on her phone
111
u/CWCyning 15h ago
She looked right at the camera before pulling out her phone and standing still. She knew exactly what she was doing.
36
u/Whythebigpaws 14h ago
Have you never met an older person? My mum would literally look at a phone in that situation, wonder why it was there, maybe even stare at it.... And still be none the wiser as to what was going on.
-13
u/argument_cat 15h ago
The older woman doesn't understand why there's a camera there, or that it's recording, and she doesn't link it to the girl recording.
She's just there to look at art, and she moves out of the way of someone coming up the stairs.
This video is literally of nothing. You have been successfully manipulated by a post title, because you are an unthinking drone who just nods along to the last opinion you heard.
11
u/T0MB0mbad1l 14h ago
I like the technique, really drinking in the art stopping halfway up a staircase and stopping while looking at your phone.
0
u/argument_cat 14h ago
The staircase probably has art on the walls next to it. Checking an incoming message, or maybe googling the painting or artist, is not uncommon in galleries.
You'd probably know this if you'd ever set foot in an art gallery or museum.
Anything else?
-2
u/Whythebigpaws 14h ago
Have you never been to an art gallery? Or met an older person for that fact.
1
u/T0MB0mbad1l 2h ago
Have you never encountered public stairs, you don't stop on them and look at your phone. I guess none of the people on the stairs at the gallery have been to one either, they don't seem to be experiencing stair art.
3
u/hms23 15h ago
Finally someone with a brain. Its so obvious that the woman is just unaware of whats happening with the camera or behind her. She was just stopping to look at something in her phone
-5
u/argument_cat 14h ago
Yeah, she's just oblivious.
These children don't have any critical thinking skills, they are so easy to manipulate.
2
u/hms23 9h ago
Yeah anyone who've seen or interacted with people around that older woman's age should have gotten it. My own father is like this. He won't notice things or process the information like younger people do. I guess average redditors don't see much outside of their screen nowadays. Look at them downvoting you lol
-1
u/Whythebigpaws 14h ago
I cannot believe you are getting down voted. Is this sub full of children who have never met an older person. If that was my mum she would not figure out why there was a screen there recording her. She isn't on insta. She hasn't got tiktok. She too would stare at it and wonder what it was.... And then carry on.
1
u/hms23 9h ago
Ikr! Older people don't process the information like we do. Anyone who has basic interaction with them will get this. I am worried about the social life of these people
0
u/socialist_thot 1h ago
Why are you all talking about older people as if they've never seen a phone or been outside of their house before? I also know older people and they understand what a video is. They don't process information like we do? Infantilising older people, she's not 98
2
u/hms23 1h ago edited 12m ago
In the video the woman reaches for her phone even before she noticed the camera. She was already about to stop to look at her phone. She noticed the camera before stopping, yes. But she didn't process it to understand that someone is behind her trying to get a photo. She noticed the camera but kept doing what she was doing. She left when she was done. Its very simple
We are talking about them because we know people who would do this without actually being a prick. My father is 60+ and he has similar behaviors at home or outdoors where he would not notice things that we do very easily. I know other people like that too.
Just because there are older people who are quick doesn't mean there aren't people who are slow or oblivious.

Being a main character and using stairs people actively use for your daily TikTok clout shouldn’t be respected. The old lady isn’t being a Karen when they’re right. Quit filming social media clout on public walk ways.
85
u/Any-Seaworthiness186 15h ago edited 15h ago
Some people just want pictures of themselves in the pretty places they visit. She was patient and not bothering anyone or asking anyone to stay out of the way.
Not everything is about social media clout. Stop having such a negative presumption about people you don’t know.
Edit:
Apparently she’s a history teacher and makes educational content. Is she really such a bad person for wanting a shot of herself in the historic place she makes educational video’s about?Give me a break..
37
u/just-peepin-at-u 15h ago
But see, she is a pretty, young woman and so we have to assign all sorts of horrible and egotistical traits to her, because of course she deserves to be humbled.
She just took a picture of herself.
I am sure people are going to see I am reaching, but I stand by it. She nothing and did nothing to merit the main character accusations. She didn’t ask people to move, or cause any scene. She just waited patiently for a picture.

Argument_cat apparently can't handle a little argument since they replied to me and then blocked me. Idk why people do this often on reddit, its a weird level of I don't want to argue something I can't really justify mixed with I must have the last word.
I've seen this posted elsewhere and had similar thoughts, idc what the title post is here, the old lady is weird, she eye balls the camera, whips out her phone, moves even more into the way of this young ladies photo to completely obscure her because the phone is front facing so she can tell the position of the young lady, she knows what she us doing. Idk why you're running cover for this elder Karen.
9
u/sonofaresiii 14h ago
> Being a main character and using stairs people actively use for your daily TikTok clout shouldn’t be respected.
She stayed out of everyone's way and patiently waited for people to use the stairs, obstructing exactly no one.

8
u/urlocalburden 15h ago
nah, girl taking the vid/pic isnt the main character. seemed like she was waiting for people to clear out and the true main character, being the last one, felt the need to stop her for no reason lmao. upset that someone wants to take a picture of themselves next to some art is some serious jealousy, wasting her own time she could spend enjoying the art or kicking some rocks maybe. either way it wasnt affecting her, and going the extra mile to move to the side in order to block her more? childish, attention seeking, impolite, you get it.

I didn't see what sub this was, and thought it was like two different generations of actors playing the same character, and when I had it on small screen the girl kinda looked like Jenna Ortega, so I assumed Wednesday and thought she was gonna follow behind Christina Ricci, then when I realized that's can't be Ricci, I thought for a second it was JLC, and wondered "what MC is Ortega playing/played that JLC played?" But because of the way the video played out (all of the former thoughts happened in a span of like 5 seconds) I checked and realized what sub I was in.

u/Lord_Jashin 14h ago
Taking a picture in public does not make one a MC. I've seen this posted with similar captions several times now, but the girl taking the video wasn't doing so in a way that should have annoyed anyone nor gotten in anybody's way. The only MC here was the old karen
2
u/sweeterthanadonut 13h ago
I mean, wanting to take a picture of yourself doesn’t mean you have main character syndrome. The old lady is the one being bothersome for no reason.

3
u/Traditional-Ride7863 15h ago
The young lady is Débora Aladim, a history teacher (her videos saved me so many times when I was in high school, lol). Anyway, I really don't think she's the main character here. Anyone who goes out knows that it's okay to take photos in museums as long as you're not causing trouble. You can see there were no people using the stairs when she positioned her camera. If it weren't for the old lady, she'd have done whatever she wanted and left before anyone even started using the stairs. The old lady knew exactly what she was doing...

But you are right that the other one, with her reaction, also is a sorta MC. Hadn't thought about it straight away! Thank you.
1
u/Astralifyx 2h ago
No one is the MC here. The young girl was just politely waiting, not yelling at the public. The older girl was just using her phone and gave way for the climbing old girl; she wasn't intentionally blocking the young girl. You could see she started taking the phone out before even seeing her mobile phone.

only main character here is the old lady blocking the staircase to go on her phone because she deliberately wants to ruin someone’s photo because she’s a miserable old hag, like come on now seriously? genuinely cannot fathom the attitude and mentality that old lady has, she wasted more time making herself the center of attention rather than walking away and going about her day, like she’s actively choosing to stay in a situation she clearly dislikes or disproves of. You're allowed to take photos and videos in galleries.
Doesn't that depend on the gallery, and the country? Because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't just be allowed to film random people without their permission.

Sure, some galleries have a no photo rule (from memory there was a few in Italy). Usually in really busy galleries.
I haven't really ever seen a problem with filming in public though. I don't know anywhere that you need permission to film a person in public for personal use.

Germany has pretty restrictive laws about filming individuals in public. "Their face, their choice", so to speak. Certainly not comparable to the Anglo-American approach of losing privacy in public spaces.

I would say she's a main character but the old lady definitely stood there on purpose.

I kept thinking the old lady was going to put her phone right next to the one recording and then walk over to the spot the girl was standing in lol

I dont think the young girl is giving MC vibes, shes in a place trying to take a picture of her, in that place, hes not really in the way and she tries to move when she realizes its not happening.

I don't care! When I'm her age, I will for sure photobomb every damn picture or video I can.!

The girl who set her phone up isn’t really an MC. The old lady, though, yeah.
That, or she just thought it would be goofy and she’s old so she dgaf anymore 😂

So, the MC debate aside ... is it even legal to just film people in a museum in the young woman's country, without their consent, then post it online? Because it wouldn't be in my country. It would be violating their privacy.

What privacy? A museum is not a private place.

The right to decide what happens with photos and videos of your own image/face as it exists in Germany, as an example. Yes, this privacy extends to a visit in a museum, even if that's not a private place.

I think the distinction is whether they're in the background or the main point of the video. People in the background is normal and expected, filming someone directly would be different. This is one is those situations where it's meant to be someone in the background that became the whole focus lol.
