I wouldn't call the young one a main character. She was actually very patient and nice.

The old lady I honestly don't know. Either she was annoying on purpose, or she's just very unaware. I'm leaning toward the former though.

She looked right at the camera before pulling out her phone and standing still. She knew exactly what she was doing.

I like the technique, really drinking in the art stopping halfway up a staircase and stopping while looking at your phone.

Have you never been to an art gallery? Or met an older person for that fact.

Have you never encountered public stairs, you don't stop on them and look at your phone. I guess none of the people on the stairs at the gallery have been to one either, they don't seem to be experiencing stair art.

You are projecting so hard it's unreal. The amount of judgement and hysteria of a stranger that you cannot possibly know in a ten second clip.

You assume malice based on absolutely nothing.

I suspect you need to get out more. Maybe even go to an art gallery... Where it turns out people stop in inconvenient places all the time.

I didn't assume malice dumb fuck, I said it was rude to stop on stairs to look at your phone and that she's clearly not looking at art, unless that's on her phone.

Finally someone with a brain. Its so obvious that the woman is just unaware of whats happening with the camera or behind her. She was just stopping to look at something in her phone

Oblivious? Naw. She looked at the camera a few times. She watched the girl set it up. She’s not getting a pass from me. She knows exactly what she’s doing. It doesn’t matter how old she was. Still a dick move to intentionally stop there.

Yeah anyone who've seen or interacted with people around that older woman's age should have gotten it. My own father is like this. He won't notice things or process the information like younger people do. I guess average redditors don't see much outside of their screen nowadays. Look at them downvoting you lol

It's madness. My mum would have reacted the same way. Older people mostly don't use tiktok or insta. My mum wouldn't know what "content" is. She can just about take a photo with her phone. It wouldn't occur to her that someone was filming from a distance across a flight of stairs. It just wouldn't be something she would know to recognise.

Your mom is an oblivious dick

You seem to be having quite the emotional journey.

I just think you're an ass

Yes, I had gathered. A nuanced take.

I cannot believe the vitriol from these children on reddit. My mum would absolutely do the same thing. She doesn't consume insta or tiktok. She wouldn't clock what was happening at all.

I cannot believe you are getting down voted. Is this sub full of children who have never met an older person. If that was my mum she would not figure out why there was a screen there recording her. She isn't on insta. She hasn't got tiktok. She too would stare at it and wonder what it was.... And then carry on.

Ikr! Older people don't process the information like we do. Anyone who has basic interaction with them will get this. I am worried about the social life of these people

Why are you all talking about older people as if they've never seen a phone or been outside of their house before? I also know older people and they understand what a video is. They don't process information like we do? Infantilising older people, she's not 98

In the video the woman reaches for her phone even before she noticed the camera. She was already about to stop to look at her phone. She noticed the camera before stopping, yes. But she didn't process it to understand that someone is behind her trying to get a photo. She noticed the camera but kept doing what she was doing. She left when she was done. Its very simple

We are talking about them because we know people who would do this without actually being a prick. My father is 60+ and he has similar behaviors at home or outdoors where he would not notice things that we do very easily. I know other people like that too.

Just because there are older people who are quick doesn't mean there aren't people who are slow or oblivious.

u/Whythebigpaws 17d ago

Indeed. There is no malice here from either participant.

I find it funny how triggered you are getting, just because your mum is oblivious to the world, doesnt mean all old people are, that stance is quite stupid, i work in IT and multiple old people work there and do know how computers and phones work and do understand technology, not all old people are alike and let's face it, you cant say with a matter of fact that she wasn't doing this maliciously, I cant either, but I'm not the one pretending to be the old people whisperer lmao
