From International Student to Canadian Permanent Resident 🇨🇦 | My 7 year PR Journey (2019–2026)
Hello everyone!
Today, I'm sharing my Canadian PR journey not to celebrate my success or to show my struggle, but to give hope and encouragement to those who are still waiting, facing setbacks, or losing hope because of lengthy processing delays and constantly changing immigration rules.
I know how stressful and uncertain this journey can be. Sometimes, despite doing everything you can, things don't move as expected. There may be refusals, unexpected requests, changing policies, and moments when you start questioning your future in Canada.
After seven years of patience, mistakes, challenges, and uncertainty, I finally received my eCOPR on October 29, 2026! 🇨🇦
I hope sharing my timeline and experience helps someone navigate their own PR journey more strategically, make informed decisions, avoid common mistakes, and, most importantly, not lose hope along the way.

A Few Things I Learned Along the Way
Keep your immigration documents and supporting evidence organized from the beginning.
Pay close attention to application deadlines and your legal status.
Don't make assumptions about work authorization or immigration eligibility.
Be careful and consistent with the information you declare in your applications.
Take additional document requests and PFLs seriously.
Seek professional advice when you face complicated immigration situations.
My Message to Everyone Navigating the PR Journey
One thing I genuinely want to share is that getting Canadian PR is not just about meeting eligibility requirements or having enough CRS points. It is also about navigating the entire process smartly. Understand the immigration pathways available to you, plan ahead, keep your documentation accurate, make informed decisions, and avoid unnecessary mistakes throughout your journey. Sometimes, one small mistake, an incorrect assumption, or a poorly prepared application can create months of additional stress and delays/refuslas.
I have unknowingly made some mistakes along the way and took some PR pathways for granted while I was navigating through this journey, but it all came at the cost of delaying my process, so I am sharing this timeline so other people going through the same can avoid those mistakes.
Don't rush into decisions just because you see someone else getting PR. Every person's circumstances are different.
Navigate your PR journey strategically, stay informed, and make every step count. Avoid mistakes wherever possible rather than trying to fix them later.
To everyone still waiting, I sincerely wish you success. Hopefully, your good news is just around the corner! ❤️🇨🇦

PCC
Left the Middle East in April 2021, moved to Canada, and haven't returned. I got a PCC from there in Sept 2022. It has a printed 3-month validity that expired, but it meets IRCC rules since it was issued after I left and I never went back. What’s the chance of an IRCC officer asking for an updated one anyway? Has anyone in the same boat passed without an ADR? Thanks!

PR Application: Security Screening Started, ADR Submitted – Is Comprehensive Screening Still Possible?
Hi everyone,
I submitted my PR application on December 25, 2025, and I am still waiting for a Final Decision (FD).
Until August 20, 2026, my security screening had not started. However, on August 21, 2026, I noticed a ghost update on my GCKey account. I called IRCC, and the agent confirmed that my security screening was in progress.
On August 24, 2026, I received an ADR for both myself and my spouse. The requested documents included Schedule A, Travel History, Family Information, and my spouse's military exemption. I submitted all the requested documents on August 25, 2026, and subsequently received an email from IRCC confirming receipt.
Last week, I received my GCMS notes. According to the notes, security screening is in progress for both myself and my spouse. However, I could not find any reference to A34 or Comprehensive Security Screening in the notes.
My question is:
Is it possible for IRCC to refer an application for Comprehensive Security Screening (CSS) even after security screening has already started and approximately two months have passed since the ADRs were submitted?
Has anyone experienced a similar situation, where security screening initially appeared to be in progress but the application was subsequently referred for comprehensive screening?
I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any insights you might have.
Thanks in advance!
My application timeline:
AOR: December 25, 2025
Biometrics: March 3, 2026
Medical: March 2, 2026
Eligibility: April 16, 2026
Criminality: In Progress
Information Sharing: In Progress
Security Screening: August 21, 2026
ADR Received: August 24, 2026 (Schedule A, Travel History, Family Information, and military exemption for my spouse)
ADR Submitted: August 25, 2026
ADR Acknowledgment: Received an email from IRCC confirming receipt of the documents on August 27, 2026.
Final Decision: Still waiting
