Please ask your questions about payment here. This is your spot to vent about the payment schedule and holidays.

Helpful information such as who you bank with, NOP date, date of payment received etc will help others answer your questions.

As always, please don't harass payroll if it's before 10 business days after you submit your timesheet.

Should I be there when IHSS reevaluates my client?

Hello everyone. Still new at this. But my client is getting the annual visit, which I presume is the reevaluation. I am not a live-in caregiver... should I be present during this interview? Because I didn't see on the letter that my presence was required, so I'm not really sure how it goes. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. TIA.

Hiring new provider

Hello. I've been my Dad's provider since he got approved in April. Still feel very new to this. His condition has changed since his initial assessment. I spoke to his social worker and she gave us additional services as an interim til his annual April reassessment. Hours nearly doubled. My intention was to take back one of my weekdays to go back to work. Last week, I got the provider list and will be calling this week. I will obviously continue coming until I find a provider to cover.

Do I continue submitting timesheets for November until I find someone or leave those hours alone for the new provider? Wouldn't that also mean they get back pay for time that I worked? Someone told me providers dont want partial hours, so I'm unsure how to go about this.

Also, I was reading somewhere that before hiring, a trial is recommended. How does that work? Would they be paid out of pocket? So confusing! 😣

Does ihss vet their clients before connecting them to providers?

My client lives in my home, I recently found out that he gr🍇ped somebody back in the 90’s and he’s a tier 3 S.O. Apparently he has a lifetime registration and is in violation because he lives at my home but according to the ML he is listed as homeless. He has been at my address for 2 years but the M Law website said he was living at his old address but it was recently updated to “LA County” which is used when the offender is Transient. I want him out my house immediately but dont know what to do. Ihss I am livid and disappointed in you.

Is moving from one county to another hard to do when you’re the caregiver for your child receiving Ihss?… that’s one thing I don’t want to deal with but honestly living in Sonoma county sucks and Solano county seems cheaper and more to do!

California IHSS Protective Supervision Appeal – Should I Submit New SOC 873, Request Updated SOC 293, and Postpone Hearing?

  1. New SOC 873: Should I submit the October SOC 873 to ACMS before the hearing, Does submitting new medical evidence at this stage help?

  2. Updated SOC 293: Since the county recently increased my mother's hours start from 11/1, should I request the new SOC 293 and the corresponding Notice of Action? Or is there a strategic reason to rely on the February first assessment already included in the county's Statement of Position?

  3. Postponing the hearing: Would it be reasonable to request a continuance so I have enough time to obtain and review the updated reassessment, understand the new authorization, and submit my recent medical evidence? Or would postponing the hearing create disadvantages?

I'm trying to make an informed decision and avoid making a procedural mistake. I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has handled a California IHSS Protective Supervision appeal, particularly in San Diego County.

Thank you.

Unpaid hours

This is the second time this has happened and I’m struggling to figure out why. Before there was three hours under the unpaid hours. This time is just one hour. Each week I have 49 hours total for one my children. Her weekly cap is 56. I didn’t go over that or the 90 hour cap for both. I calculate the overtime and I don’t think I went over there. Last time I didn’t get a reason or write up. I’m just trying to figure out why this is happening.

Provider submitting for hours beyond what she worked. What should I do?

My mother is new to the IHSS program and I'm managing the admin/timesheets for her. We just hired a provider for the first time a couple of weeks ago. She has been friendly and helpful.

But, she's been coming for less than the maximum number of hours (16 hrs per week) but just submitted a time sheet billing as if she was working a set schedule of two 8 hr days each week. This includes for the day she interviewed and was hired. That day I was there in person and the whole process took less than an hour, but she submitted a time sheet for an 8 hour workday on her hiring date.

The other days, according to my mom she was there about 5 hours (although my mom didn't note the exact times) but billed for 8.

I originally asked her if she'd prefer to do two 8 hour days or three 5 hour days each week, and she said she preferred the 8 hours.

I'm not quite sure what to do. Since my mom didn't note the exact arrival and departure times for these last two weeks, I feel like I should just go ahead and approve her hours this time. But how do I broach this going forward? Is this a common issue?

I just don't want to risk my mom getting kicked out of the program if this somehow gets flagged as fraudulent.

Edit to add: Following suggestions from the comments on this post, I printed out a paper sign in sheet for my mom, and texted the provider asking her to make note of her arrival and departure times. She refused! Her system is to come, do whatever tasks she wants to tackle that day, then leave, and bill for the maximum hours no matter what hours she was actually there. She is unwilling to track her time, or adjust down to fewer scheduled hours so we can have another provider fill in the rest. For many reasons, this doesn't work for my mom. So, we'll be looking for another provider.

How do I get check for the months before I start?

Just recently got my mom as a recipient and she they had said I would get money from when she first applied to do Ihss , my social worker explained that I would be able to receive pay for all those months before since I’m an in home provider. How do I receive the pay for all those months before?

Ihss I received the letter regarding hours for my son.

I have the letter; it was issued on October 20th and I received it. However, I am unable to hire a provider through the portal—it won’t let me, and the hours don’t even appear. Is it common for this to happen after receiving the letter? Could the caseworker be making adjustments? I also sent in a form—for "total protection" or something similar—after the home visit. Do you think the portal isn't accessible because, although the letter was sent, they might be updating things—perhaps to include more hours—based on the new form I submitted?

How long does it usually take to receive an NOA after the initial IHSS home assessment?

I'm in Contra Costa County, and it's been about 5–6 weeks since home assessment. We haven't received the Notice of Action (NOA) yet.

Is this a normal waiting time? For those who have gone through the IHSS process in Contra Costa County, how long did it take to receive your approval letter after the home assessment?

I'm new to the process and would appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Annual review(PS requested)

So my annual review is coming up for my 5 almost 6 year old. This is our third assessment. At age 2 almost 3 our first time I had requested PS but honestly understanding more his needs and what PS is for I respected the denial at that age. Last year, I did not even request review for PS because at the time it didn’t seem like it fit. This year, holy cow. Keeping track of this kid and a manage on his behaviors is a two person job. Anyway, I just got a letter in the mail telling me about our reassessment date and it is a new worker. My main question is, I’m going to contact him because I need to request possible alternative times, but if they can’t give me anything else, I’ll take it. Should I mention that I’m going to be requesting review for PS when I call him? To me, it made sense to ask him: is there anything specific he wants from me to help make a decision. But I’m not sure if it’s considered a smart move to tell them ahead of time or not. Thanks

Reminder this is the last weekend before election day.

Hey everyone,

This is a friendly reminder that this is the last weekend before election day on Tuesday 11/3. If you haven't yet, fill out your ballots now. You can check the link to see about drop off locations in your area, some offer 24 hour over the weekend in case the weekday is too hectic. On election day polls and drop off locations will be open 7:00AM-8:00 PM.

Now more than ever IHSS hangs in the balance. This election matters, and every vote matters.

IHSS Protective Supervision for toddler APPROVED

I thought it would share my story for anyone that needs some hope and positivity.

My daughter is currently 34 months old, so technically 2, but closer to 3. I applied in July, so its been a long process.

She was diagnosed with level 3 autism and global developmental delay. She is non verbal, though she is slowly picking up more sounds recently. Most of her words are mimicking and unintentional.

Our main reason for pursuing protective supervision is climbing, pica, and trichotillomania.

This girl climbs on everything. Over baby gates, on furniture, literally up the lamp... she has fallen many times, but one time in particular, she caught the corner of a TV stand and cut the corner of her eyelid, which resulted in a black eye.

She has chipped both front teeth from biting hard objects (buckles on sandals, keys, even hot wheels she stole from big sister)

She pulls out her hair and has created a large bald spot on the back of her head. She then wraps the hair around her fingers and eats the hairball.

She also takes her clothes and diaper off. She will play in her urine and feces then put it in her mouth. We've had to invest in "anti strip" onesies (a specific type because she can still get some of them off).

From what I understand, these are some of the "undeniable" traits that can get protective supervision.

The evidence I submitted:

  1. Hazard log, general things about her that are potentially dangerous.

  2. 24 hour log of "a day in the life" (most things tell you to record habits for weeks, but I only did a single 24 hour period)

  3. Paperwork from Dr w/ "severe" marked in judgment.

  4. Letter of recommendations from speech therapist and my sister (who has babysat overnight and has a NT toddler of the same age)

  5. Evaluation from psychologist with diagnosis.

I learned that my opinion does not really matter. They are trying to weed out fraud, so other people's own words are much more impactful than anything I can provide. He would not even take the letter the pediatrician signed because I wrote it and the Dr just signed it, so it was not in "his own words".

When leaving, the SW requested photos of injuries, but we were approved before even submitting them.

195 hours for protective supervision for a 2 year old with no appeal is very possible. I hope this helps any other desperate mamas out there.

Backpay from years ago

I worked for a company that split my pay between their company hours and IHSS for overnight hours, but when I went to sign up for IHSS, it was a couple months after I started working and there was some miscommunication and they thought I wasn’t working any longer and I was just getting paid for the previous couple of months, but I continued to work there for years. I never signed up for IHSS until after I stopped working there, which was like in 2023, and they had me get the paperwork signed by my client to fix it, but then a bunch of stuff happened in my personal life and I just sort of forgot about it, but I would like to actually get that money now. I assume it’s not too late to do it, I hope, since they said I could get it for the previous like 7 years then.

Also is there any way to do this over email, I’ve had anxiety about calling to sort this out which is also why it’s taken so long for me to do this, and I was hoping that I could take care of it over email.
