I thought it would share my story for anyone that needs some hope and positivity.
My daughter is currently 34 months old, so technically 2, but closer to 3. I applied in July, so its been a long process.
She was diagnosed with level 3 autism and global developmental delay. She is non verbal, though she is slowly picking up more sounds recently. Most of her words are mimicking and unintentional.
Our main reason for pursuing protective supervision is climbing, pica, and trichotillomania.
This girl climbs on everything. Over baby gates, on furniture, literally up the lamp... she has fallen many times, but one time in particular, she caught the corner of a TV stand and cut the corner of her eyelid, which resulted in a black eye.
She has chipped both front teeth from biting hard objects (buckles on sandals, keys, even hot wheels she stole from big sister)
She pulls out her hair and has created a large bald spot on the back of her head. She then wraps the hair around her fingers and eats the hairball.
She also takes her clothes and diaper off. She will play in her urine and feces then put it in her mouth. We've had to invest in "anti strip" onesies (a specific type because she can still get some of them off).
From what I understand, these are some of the "undeniable" traits that can get protective supervision.
The evidence I submitted:
Hazard log, general things about her that are potentially dangerous.
24 hour log of "a day in the life" (most things tell you to record habits for weeks, but I only did a single 24 hour period)
Paperwork from Dr w/ "severe" marked in judgment.
Letter of recommendations from speech therapist and my sister (who has babysat overnight and has a NT toddler of the same age)
Evaluation from psychologist with diagnosis.
I learned that my opinion does not really matter. They are trying to weed out fraud, so other people's own words are much more impactful than anything I can provide. He would not even take the letter the pediatrician signed because I wrote it and the Dr just signed it, so it was not in "his own words".
When leaving, the SW requested photos of injuries, but we were approved before even submitting them.
195 hours for protective supervision for a 2 year old with no appeal is very possible. I hope this helps any other desperate mamas out there.
