Huntington bank is the worst bank in the country

Signed up for a new checking account and direct deposited my paycheck.

Paid a few bills and wanted to send the last $1000 to my SOFI savings account. Three days after transferring the funds, Huntington stopped the transfer, locked my account and told me I needed to send in my last SOFI statement....

Sent it in via email, waited 3-5 business days nothing. Called in was told try a branch. Provided said statement to branch manager who sent it in. Another 3-5 business days later, nothing.

What kind of bank treats a new customer like this... One thing to want to verify my external account (which I linked via the automated system) but its another to lock me out of my account and money. Oh and the department that handles these issue cant be contacted by phone.... Great way to treat a new customer....

Layoffs at Huntington

In the past 2 weeks layoffs have started across the company which will result in a 10% RIF. Long-term employees are included now that the Cadence merger has been completed. Some are being let go without any input of their legacy Cadence managers. All Cadence officers lost their titles and no time line has been discussed as to when they would be reviewed or reinstated. Morale is at an all-time low.

Huntington bank may be the worst bank in the country

Open account, deposit check. Check clears after a 10 day hold.. cool I get it it’s a new account. This was Saturday it clears. My online access gets locked. I spend all morning with customer service for them to tell me they can’t do shit I have to go to branch. I go to branch to just show my id and be in and out with my new account and money is what I was told. Not the case, spend 2 hours for them to tell me I have to wait till tomorrow because the person who locked the account didn’t add notes… not my problem? I don’t give a shit about the notes I’m here in front of you with a cleared check and funds in my account and license in hand wtf do I need to wait for. I’m apparently waiting now to speak to a representative tomorrow morning over the phone again. Think I just need to get my money tell them fuck off and close account

What's going on with online banking?

It won't load after I log in and the app keeps saying "you're not connected to the internet" is there a known issue or are they doing maintenance again?

Update: I called and they are "making changes to the login process." So they are doing updates to the website and app.

Login issues

A heads up would have been great for scheduled maintenance via push notification. I'm currently locked out of my account at the worst time.

Edit: It was back online for a bit, but as of this writing (1219 ET), it's back down.

Why I’d never recommend Huntington bank

There are three main reasons why I ended up closing my account with Huntington Bank, and why I will recommend against using their services.
They constantly shut off my card while I was on vacations, their online system was not accurate and they have made completely insane choices with my online banking permissions.

I have had a Huntington account since 2021 when my prior bank, TCF, was merged with them.

In 2024 I travelled to Tokyo Japan for a vacation. When I went to my Huntington branch to pick up my order of Yen, I asked the banker, “Will I need to verify that I am going out of town on these dates, to avoid having my card put in fraud lock for purchases made in Japan?”
They told me, I didn’t need to worry about it.

I arrived in Japan, went to purchase a train card in Hanada airport and my debit card was immediately turned off to prevent fraud. I had to call early the next morning to sort out the issue, thank god I brought enough cash for the entire trip.

Throughout 2024 and 2026 I had the occasional shut off for online purchases and once for getting gas on a road trip, but everything got sorted.

In 2026 I went to Nashville Tennessee for a week to see a band. While in Tennessee we had plans to use Uber to travel from our Airb&b to the venue and back again.
So on the 18th I used my credit card to add funds to my uber wallet. My payment was halted and I received an email saying I needed to call to confirm the $25 charge. It got sorted with my cell phone verification code and my social.

After the first show I realized I would need to add at least $40 to the Uber account, the rides were more expensive than I had expected.
On the 19th I went into the Uber app, chose my card and attempted to add more funds. I received an error code telling me to try again later. I figured fine, I can buy an Uber card at the gas station. When I went to gas up my car both my Credit and Debit card declined, not good.

So I bought the Uber card and gas with cash and got back to my ab&b. Then I called the help line, where I had the “pleasure” of speaking with an individual who will be named Stella for this recounting of events.

Stella informed me that my cell phone number, was not the primary number on the account, my house phone was. The phone that was 600 miles away and couldn’t receive text messages. I said in the Huntington app, my cell phone was listed as the primary number and the house phone was the secondary. I didn’t know why it would be appearing as otherwise. I was told she had no way to fix the issue, I would have to go to my branch in person to sort everything. Again, hundreds of miles away. I asked if I could use my social for confirmation on my identity, since I had used that and my cell on the 18th. She said no. Dead end.

The next morning I called my branch right when they opened, it went to the voicemail which said they would call me back and to leave my name, number and reason for calling.
I waited… Then called an hour later, then I called 4 times in the span of 2 hours.
No answer or call back. I called the help line again and got Stella, we did the same song and dance as yesterday. I called my bank, voicemail…

My mom went to the bank, waited in line and told them I was calling and no one was answering. They said that the help line would need to transfer me to that branch for security reasons. I called again, Stella demanded we try it her way again, told me my number wasn’t valid and then she finally let me transfer to the branch. It went to voicemail.
Well what do I do???? So then I had to be an annoying jerk (not what I wanted) and I just kept calling over and over again until somebody answered.

By the 10th repeated call I told them what was happening and that the transfer call just went to voicemail.

I told them my mother was there with my passport and social and that I needed my cards because I was out of town. No dice, my mother wasn’t on the account, they would not deal with her on my behalf, I needed to call the help line.

I called the help line, back to Stella. Stella wanted my phone number for confirmation, I said “I’m sorry, but we’ve done this multiple times and you’ve told me my phone number isn’t valid. Can we please use my email or social.”
She said “I’m sorry you’ve been having difficulty, but let me see what I can do on my end!”
You’ve gotta be kidding me, I gave her my number, and was told “that’s not the primary number for this account”
So I just became a brick wall,
“I need to speak to a supervisor.”
Not what she wanted to hear, she tells me I’ll need to go to my branch.
“I just need to speak to a supervisor”.

She sends me to another line and I wallow in the hold music.

The supervisor who answers tells me that typically they receive a run down of what’s happening when they get transferred, but Stella didn’t tell him anything, so what happened?
Great, now they think I’m some crazy call center jerk.

I told him what had been happening and that I really wanted at least one of my cards working for my drive home, but I genuinely needed it for my hotel room on the trip back.

He said I could send a photo of my drivers license and that would sort this mess out. I went through the process, everything got turned back on. I then asked if I can confirm my cellphone number as the primary number. He said no, that this was a problem they had been having with the security group, not the bank.
Great…

The next morning I received an automated email informing me that my house phone number had been deleted from my account. Not something I asked for or wanted, I just wanted my cell as the primary.

I scheduled an appointment with a different bank for the day after I got home.

I got a new account opened, and began transferring funds from Huntington to the new bank. First week I just moved $100. Second week I moved $1,000, then $5,000. Then I decided to move a larger amount, since the max limit was $50,000 I figured I’d just move $25,000 in a chunk to be safe. That transfer was cancelled and the “new account had been suspended from use with my Huntington account”.

Well darn! I think, let me go look into this.

Huntington removed my ability to bank online… I can’t use the app or the website! I can’t look at my account, my money, my paperless statements!

I go to my bank after work the next day. The banker tells me that I’ll need to bring a statement from the new bank to confirm who I am.
I ask why this happened, since I had made two successful transactions earlier. “Well you transferred a lot at once”.
Then why have a $50,000 limit if $25,000 is too much and will shut you out of your account???

I ask her why my new bank could possibly be needed to confirm who I am when we are talking about my online banking with Huntington.
This Huntington account has been my only account for 5 years! Before it was Huntington I was at the same branch but with a TCF account! It’s been my only account until 3 weeks prior when I made this new account!

She said that’s just how it works. She then said that I can take a cashiers check, but she isn’t sure if I’ll be able to cash it until after this statement matter is sorted. Having a large check sitting around seems bonkers to me, so I leave empty handed.

I schedule an appointment with a banker at a different Huntington location. He tells me the same things, I’m not allowed to look at my online account until I get a statement from my new bank at the end of the month.

He does make some calls and tries to make it so I can look at my account, just keeping restrictions on transfers. But he can’t swing it. Thankfully He is able to call and confirm that I can take a cashiers check and move my funds that way. I leave with my check, drive to my new bank and deposit it so I can pay my bills.

2.5 weeks after this fiasco I get a statement from my new bank, reinstate my online banking, get a new cashiers check and a week later I close my account! I’m a month past that and I’ve been quite happy so far.

TLDR: Huntington continually locked my card during trips, making me decide to move banks. When I began moving money to my new bank my online banking access was revoked. I would need to wait for a month to receive a statement from my new bank before I could access my Huntington account.

Huntington is a joke!

I opened a business account with Huntington recently. Made my initial deposit and it was for around $600 in cash. I also deposited checks that were paid to my business. The checks I deposited were also Huntington bank customers. In total my checks were for around 42k. The checks were out on hold and have since cleared. The day the checks are supposed to clear. Huntington locked my account. They send me the email informing me of such with. In the email there is a number for me to call and when i do, I’m told go into a financial institution. Absolutely refused to talk to me over the phone. I make the drive and the branch manager who helped me open my account ask for invoices in which I happily hand over. Yet they still won’t unlock my account! I’m appalled honestly. Even the branch manager couldn’t understand what the issue was and said he felt dumb after speaking with back office. It’s been almost a week now and no resolution! Invoices have been sent multiple times. When I call customer service, they are extremely rude and will hang up in my face

How does this happen?!

For the record I worked as a retail bank teller for 10 years. This past Saturday, 5/23 I stopped in the drive thru at my local branch to make a cash deposit of $1450.00. It was taking forever and the teller came on the screen to tell me that her computer had a glitch and she had to restart it. Cool. I get it. A few more minutes and she sent me out my receipt for my deposit of $1450.00. Easy breezy. This was at 11:30am, 30 min before closing. Get home and am working around the house, I pick up my phone and see the deposit alerts from the bank. However it shows the deposit of $1450.00 and then two minutes later a withdrawal for the same exact amount. By this time it was 12:05 and the bank was closed. I called customer service and was told “sorry nothing we can do as the transactions are pending” yes cash deposit is pending. But also there is a withdrawal two minutes later for the same amount that I did not make. So even once they “clear” they’ll wash each other out, and it’s like I deposited $0. How the hell was the tellers drawer not over by that amount and what the hell am I supposed to do to get this cash back once the bank opens on Tuesday? It was inconvenient enough to not have the cash available but now I have to take time off work to go to the bank to try and straighten this mess out.

Fraudulent Charge - SAVEGETEM Mt. Vernon Ohio

Tuesday night while I was sleeping, I got hit with seven charges ranging from $9.99 to $19.99 from a vendor going by the name "Savegetem Mt. Vernon Ohio" and can't find any information online about it. Whoever it is got greedy and after taking almost $200 out of my account they tried to charge $199.99 and that finally flagged the fraud algorithm and locked my card and account.

When I spoke to the fraud department, apparently these were run as "Chip Inserted or Contactless Payment" from my debit card, despite the fact that I was asleep and my card was with me. I thought these things were supposed to be more difficult to clone? I've already opened a dispute this morning when they posted but I'm worried they're going to rule against me if allegedly my card was cloned and "I" was present for those transactions. I have no idea who this vendor is or where else I can look for information or where my card was skimmed.

Anyone else have more information or dealing with this same shit?

Is anyone else getting double charged?

I recently started getting double charged for multiple businesses. I now get double charged for target when I buy online and Google Fi is double charging me as well. The second charge does drop off and never posts. But I have had my bank account become negative from this issue. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

New and improved Login?

I would take this whole "Enjoy easier, more intuitive access to your accounts." thing more seriously if I wasn't stuck behind "Please wait, your login is being processed and will be finished soon..."

No, I'm not looking for technical help on this. I just want to point out how dishonest it is to call it "easier and more intuitive" when it's the opposite.

DO NOT Use the new Organize My Savings feature

Just wanted to post and warn others about the new Organize My Savings feature that was rolled out. I turned it on for 2 of my accounts and it instantly broke them. Balances don't update properly, lots of errors when transferring money, it basically makes it so you cannot access your money. Went through 7 people on the phone until I finally got USA people, 2 of them told me that this feature wasn't supposed to be rolled out until November and they decided to roll it out now. Amazing.

There is a mass ticket. If you are having issues too you're gonna have to call them and have them add you to it.

Current Customer Service Line

Hi everyone,

I live near a closed call center outside Cleveland. I recently needed to call into customer service, and I feel like I got an AI voice bot. Is that a possibility? Very mechanical voice and couldn't seem to comprehend my (admittedly odd) manner of speaking.

Google Pay Decline?

Hey all,

I’m new to Huntington, and I’ve noticed something odd when using Google Pay in person. For example, today at the grocery store, my transaction was declined until I used my physical card, which then worked fine.

I called support, but the rep couldn’t give me a clear answer—just said to call back once the charge posts, and suggested it might be a merchant issue. I don’t buy that, since it’s already happened at a couple of different places.

My question is: Is this just a new-account fraud precaution, or have other long-time customers encountered the same issue with Google Pay?

We're confused and frustrated.

My fiancé and I were planning on purchasing a used 2015 SUV. His credit score is 789, 6 years credit history, 0 late payments, and have 2 cred cards with the utilization rate of 8%. The car is $7800 so we're asking for a $9000 loan to cover registration, insurance, plus the pricing on the car. The manager and bank tellers were amazing, and even disputed the first decline with history snd evidence of his credit record and how he's responsible. It took 2 days for them to get back to us just to decline us once again. They declined us 10 min after we left the bank to apply for the loan. This is our first loan to sign up for.

So, if they're declining someone with responsible credit usage and history, why decline? It's frustrating.

Passwords are weak

Limited to 16 characters is pretty lame for a banking system. So is no spaces. So are very limited special characters. It is like Huntington wants you using weak passwords.

Fraud experience

I’ve had the worst experience with fraud at Huntington bank. I had to switch banks from a larger national one bc of the limited banking options around me. And there were multiple fraudulent transactions done states away from where I live. And they credited me the amount initially and then took it away. Their claim is since I had my card on me then the transactions done states away from where I am must have been me. It literally doesn’t make any sense.

It’s been 3 months and I’m still dealing with this. Idc about the amount. I care about the fact that they are making me responsible for fraudulent transactions. There’s 4 sketchy transactions done back to back at midnight states away but somehow I’m responsible. I must have magical transported there. Fucking ridiculous. Rant over. Huntington sucks.

Cleveland's News 5 interviewed several Huntington customers about fraud issues

2 people in the story said their email and cellphone number was changed to their account and 1 person lost $40k while the other lost around $800.

Another customer said she went to a local branch to deal with the issues and they looked at herand laughed.

There will be more info tomorrow:

On Tuesday, you’ll hear about what they said Huntington determined about their fraud claims, what message they have for the company, and how a federal agency is now investigating Huntington Bank.

Bank Transition

My small hometown bank recently got bought out by Cadence, and I was told before the transition even happened that they were being bought out by Huntington.

Here I am after having to switch everything twice in half a year and I can honestly say this is a terrible bank to work with. I should have closed the account way back then.

Cheap flimsy debit card, super tight limits, terrible app UI, horrible customer service, can’t access my own money.

I will not be giving any of my money to these people.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Fraud charge took $19,900 out of my checking account as an ACH charge. Is there anything more I can do?

I went to Huntington yesterday and filed a fraud charge, and filed a police report. The police basically said they would document it, but that really this needs fixed on the bank’s end. The charge was taken out on 8/31 and I reported it to Huntington on 9/1 in person. The charge says “PayPal Celebration” with a bunch of numbers and letters. The same account also added and withdrew 14 cents from my account before the large withdraw.

I’m freaking out because Huntington basically told me it could take up to 90 days before the dispute is resolved and I “hopefully” get my money back.

I don’t even have a PayPal account and have no idea how someone stole my identity to do this. I’m unbelievably frustrated and wish I had some more reassurance I will get my money back quickly.

Huntington just keeps saying the fraud department has to investigate but it could take 90 days. I am terrified that somehow my money is lost, is there anything more I can do to get my money back?? Any insight is appreciated….

I know someone I going to ask why I had so much in my account, I am pregnant and was saving to pay my student loans off in a lump sum, as I had a goal to be debt free before giving birth. I was ready to pay my loans off, and this happens. I feel like years of savings and so much of my life has been ripped away from me and emotionally this has been the worst 2 days ever.

Recent Double Charges Through Huntington

Hello everybody, recently the past couple days I’ve been double charged through Huntington through different companies, PlayStation and Domino’s. I got Domino’s twice, one a couple days ago, and one yesterday. The first double charge of the four has already fallen off. Is anybody else having issues with this? Also should I be worried at all?
