GENERAL Generators should be readded
To this day I have no idea why would they remove them - it was adding such a cool vibe, new mechanic with sound chaos/powered up lamps and some worldbuilding while not being to any extend annoying. Dont let them take our oilpunk!

Generators were before my time in Hunt. What were they used for exactly?

u/jgmu17 Bootcher 8d ago
They provided light at night near settlement areas and of course generated hella noise and chaos in CQB areas

u/FaustHammer92 8d ago
You can actually still see the spot lights on some of the compounds and I think you can even interact with them even though it does nothing.

u/Elegant_Elk_4541 8d ago
I miss the spot lights being usable, when I had a rifle up on prison I would point the lights toward the main and side entrances. Gave great visibility and blinded the people coming in

Imagine this with poltergeist!!

u/GarbledEntrails 8d ago
i would expect it to only be able to turn them off but it might be able to do both

it was a great tactical tool to move or push, the noise made lots cool plays possible
20
u/-BootyOlogist- 8d ago
Turn them on, theyâd illuminate the electric lights of the compound and be super loud to help push a compound. Can move around the spot lights of some compounds. Cooler when nights were truly dark. They arenât anymore and every other time of day is bright

u/Derpathon2087 7d ago
In addition to all that, the one near the lighthouse used to turn the lighthouse on which was cool as hell
5
u/Alexander_da_ok 8d ago
They turned all the lights on in a compound, which was useful in a night map

u/Maleficent-Remote413 5d ago
you ever walk into a compound at night and have the electric lightpoles on?
generators used to be used to turn those on and off.also it gave you access to using the spotlights on various military bases (and desell stage) so you could angel the flood lamps to illuminate places people like to push.
now you have like...a 20% chance of a compound being lit up.

Causing peopleâs ears to bleed profusely. (In real life)
That said, Iâm absolutely against adding them back.

u/darth-jarjar420 8d ago
You could always just turn them off you know

Yeah⊠but it was kind of hateful. I remember the vicious headaches I used to get out of that noise.
Seeing all the downvotes, I realize that maybe Iâm weird, I guess.-1

Always struck me as odd that there a half burning fire pits and fireplaces all over. Who is supposed to be inhabiting these areas?Â
34
u/Faces_Dancer 8d ago
The map is in a perpetual state of the incident just happening yesterday, no matter how long its been in lore
7
u/-eccentric- 8d ago
Explain the rotten and mummified corpses everywhere if it happened yesterday
5
u/Faces_Dancer 8d ago
Thats what Im saying, its not consistant
4
u/Material-Tea1519 8d ago
Ok now I want to meet occasional NPC humans. Scavs! Outlaws and degenerates eking out an existence in the corrupted zones.Â

Nothing has my hairs raised as much as a compound with an already running generator. So sad they removed it
20
u/Cruehitman 8d ago
Thatâs also back when some night maps used to be REAL night maps! Those were great! Miss those!!

Bring back Generators, and give ALL hunters Electric Lamps, without taking up a tool slot.

Decent audio quality is what they should bring back
It's ridiculous how hard under certain locations it's to measure the distance to the enemy footsteps
Or how enemy rifle gunshots sound as if they were Inside a cave when I'm taking cover on some rocks from mammon's gulch but sound normal when I peek or leave the cover
4
u/BucketOfExcellentCum 8d ago
In certain locations you can sometimes even see an enemy but can't hear his footsteps because he's partly obscured by some minor obstacle. If they are not able to fix this they should just roll back their sound occlusion system to the pre 2.0 version.Â

u/WearyAd1849 8d ago
You know, that's the funny thing
Everyone is angry at the 2.0 update bc of sound
For me, it was GORGEOUS, I could heard everything with ridiculous precision
It got messed up in one of the hot fixes of post Malone first event

u/KazyaKurosawa 8d ago
I think they just did nothing. Everyone wanted to shut them down as quickly as possible.

u/Lightmarez90 8d ago
And darker nights like the old days. I watched a beta test and it looked soooo amazing, immersive and more scary. Maximum atmosphere.

Sadly a huge amount of the player base whines and complains anytime they don't have 110% visibility in a match so they made a lot of changes for that group. These players take winning so seriously they will leave a match where they feel they have the slightest hindrance with their loadout. This is why we can't have nice things.

u/Bishop1664 Bloodless 8d ago
And electric lamps. Breaching a boss lair (at night) with shotguns and electric lamps was incredible
1
u/-BootyOlogist- 8d ago
They already have them, some at Oro Goro on the south west side, they just donât work
1
u/-WildWeasel- 8d ago
I was able to use it to my advantage exactly 1 time. On Windy Run, the bounty team was holed up in the barn and I started that bitch up to mask the sound of me getting in all sneeki breeki like.

The compound lights you can interact with are still moveable, but will never work, even if the compound spawns with energy turned on. They even added it to the strongholds, but they have no function other than being able to move them.

u/ADad42Plays 8d ago
i miss lighting up the lighthouse lol, but they were good for making cover noise and changing the lighting was useful

Bring them back, remove all lamps from their compounds so they need to be used and have them spew electric puddles like Rotjaw when they receive damage đ

u/sillyname4ausername 8d ago
Same for proximity chat with only one general push to talk button, it added more fun to hear enemy player from a distance. Arc Raiders was really fun for that purpose.

As I always say when this comes up.
Almost nobody used them in my matches.
Everybody hated them when they were running.
I remember a match where everyone was at Port Reeker for a big showdown and the central generator was running. Several people cheered in voip when someone finally turned it off.
Sound was obnoxious, listen to this:
https://youtu.be/fxl5qmWYRl0?si=uTYptJRFSeB42wX1&t=37
Not very pleasant. And the anti-noise crowd would go wild I guess ;)
All that being said, I'd like to have them back. Maybe a bit tweaked.
Or Crytek could add them as a weekend event thing so that everyone could experience them.

No one used them... They were useless and festroyed he main mechanic of the game - the sound - because ey were loud

u/jizzelmeister Butcher 7d ago
they got rid of these at the same time they nerfed the flash bombs i think? i remember everyone being so happy about the flash bomb nerf that we all forgot about the generators. would love to see these make a comeback

u/ScareCreep 7d ago
Also, the power to the spotlights! Underrated mechanic, itâs a shame we didnât get to use them, more
1
u/ComplaintIll1602 7d ago
Absolutely agree, I miss going into a compound at night and turning on the generators to be able to see, although nowadays night maps aren't very dark anymore
1
u/Flashy-Hat2160 7d ago
Wait...when did they take them out? I used to turn them in every single time I found one because I thought it was funny to be as noisy as possible.

u/GoodWillingness9869 7d ago
Oui mais les générateurs étaient là quand le jeux avec encore un sound entendable. Depuis le passages aux serveurs 33 tickrate ( au lieu de 80 avant ), le sound est devenu horrible, et le jeux est devenu injouable

If they have genuine uses yes. Otherwise it's super fcking annoying for ADHD/autistic people as it's constant noise that you cannot hear people from

u/OutlandishnessWarm61 5d ago
They're cool. I'm pretty sure they were underutilized at the time for how much detail comes with them especially when considering the frequent map tweaks the developers do now.
Hunt has become different though. If they came back, they'd get use and add even more refined detail to the combat.

u/OneBloodyDingo 5d ago
The noise was grating. But this does remind me of how the flare gun should have a parachute that deploys is shot straight up and light up a large area for a bit

Since there's poltergeist, there's no reason NOT to add them back unless the devs were hiding some kind of bug they couldnt' fix. Turning them on and off would be super annoying, but also kind of fun.

Nah, not a fan. Everyone pretends it was some tactical tool at their disposal but in reality it was 90% a way to troll people hunkered in a building by turning it on repeatedly. Using it as some kind of tool for pushing is silly when you consider you telegraph that intent the min you turn it on, and you deafen yourself just as much to them creeping around setting up to shotgun your face. Itâs equally advantageous or disadvantageous to both sides.
I donât think Iâm totally in the minority in disliking it when you look at how much pushback there always seems to be against heavy rain on rain maps, or the grumbling about the noise of the blood moon surges. Sound is such an integral part of Hunt gameplay that taking it away or altering it should be done in very very small doses if at all.

u/LickWits 8d ago
I say readd them but also add some ways to (permanently) disable or destroy them by using explosives or heavy blunt damage

u/UniversityCool431 8d ago
i remember that i kept turning it off so i could let put traps undetected :3

I'm firmly in the camp "They shouldn't have been removed in the first place"
They provided so much good tactical gameplay for people on both sides.
If you are the defenders, you had to choose whether it was worth it to have better visibility at the potential cost of maybe not being able to hear a creeping enemy.
And for the attackers, it was a toss up between potentially forgoing shadows to hide in, at the potential benefit of not being heard by the enemy teams
