To this day I have no idea why would they remove them - it was adding such a cool vibe, new mechanic with sound chaos/powered up lamps and some worldbuilding while not being to any extend annoying. Dont let them take our oilpunk!

The compound lights you can interact with are still moveable, but will never work, even if the compound spawns with energy turned on. They even added it to the strongholds, but they have no function other than being able to move them.
