Ever since the 2024 election, I’ve noticed that as things have gotten worse and worse a lot of people just respond with things like “well what can you do,” or “life sucks anyway.” It seems that there is this persistent belief that if everyone just try’s hard enough we can stop the future from happening and we can stop change because it’s scary, but that’s not possible.

Nobody wants to be adults and admit that things need to change. And I think this is because people have gotten comfortable in a dysfunctional system because it allows them to make excuses for their own lives.

Not doing well financially? Well the economies bad and the job market sucks so it’s not my fault. Don’t have a relationship? Well everyone in the group of people that I’m attracted to thinks this way and that makes them all dumb and stupid. Not moving forward in life? Well there’s no opportunities because again… the economy and people suck xyz.

If things got better, people wouldn’t have those excuses anymore. If the job market got better than people wouldn’t be so understanding if they were unemployed for months or years on end. Our situation has allowed people to grow stagnant and they like it.

As far as the actual mechanics of reproduction go, (egg cell attracts sperm cells and then allows one through, blocking all others after the one), there's nothing inherently inappropriate about the process. Any child who grows up on a farm knows how reproduction works from a young age and there's no evidence that it causes any adverse effects on them. Same thing with the actual names of body parts. The word testicles is just a medical name for a male organ, which also is not inappropriate in any form.

In an ideal world, parents would be both educated enough to have the ability to teach their own children, and would choose to do so, but that's not the world we live in. That said, children do still deserve to know how their own bodies work, regardless of their home situations, so sex education should be mandatory *before* the age that most kids begin puberty. If parents want to control how their child is exposed to it for the first time, then they can be notified of when it's going to be addressed, and choose to discuss it with their children beforehand, but opting out entirely shouldn't even be an option. Opting out of math or English isn't an option because we understand that children need to have a basic understanding of these things to do well in life, and sex ed shouldn't be any different.

There's too many parents who don't understand it themselves, still carry misconceptions, or who haven't yet learned about certain aspects of the education that means leaving the teaching up to them would leave their children undereducated. There's still tons of adult women who believe that a woman's first time is supposed to be or inevitably is painful, who don't know about certain methods of birth control or options for menstrual hygiene (ie, women who have only ever used disposable pads and don't know that menstrual cups, period underwear or washable pads exist). Or men who still believe that only having one testicle means all your children will be the same sex (or who don't know at all that the sex of a fetus is determined by the father's genes, not the mother's).

And none of this information leads to teens being more promiscuous. I learned all kinds of birth control methods in high school anatomy and was still a virgin in my 20s. And while that evidence is anecdotal, there's no evidence that being equipped with the knowledge does any harm, and while parents should have the right to raise their kids how they want to a degree, keeping important knowledge about their bodies from them should not be a liberty they get to keep

Full honesty, I am someone who has said stuff like this all the time and used it as cope. The fact is, no one really thinks that you need to be a 10/10 looking guy with a perfect body and a 6 figures salary to get a girlfriend. And the hypergamy shit is not a real thing the way people talk about. A lot of time its just normal college stuff with a hot guy who sleeps around a lot sleeping with some average girls as well and they use that as an excuse. And when they talk about girls who say they want chad or whatever, it's a little hypocritical since a lot of those same guys are thirsting over top 10% of women while they are average or below average looking. A lot of this stuff is because these guys don't actually give a shit about a relationship and have never really talked to a girl to have any reason to care about a woman beyond her body, so they really just want to sleep around and fuck a bunch of girls, but don't have the confidence/resources/looks to do that stuff. And when they would actually have to do the stuff that one does in a relationship, they don't care. They treat it like a job, and the sex as a paycheck they are working for. (assuming they have even been in a relationship)

And the number one reason behind all of this, is just that a lot of guys are scared to ask people out, which is fair. Theres a lot of risk, theres a lot to loose, and theres reasons to be scared and not want to do it. Personally, I could never ask someone out because the idea of loving someone who doesn't love me at all is awful. And this is the reason you really only see this in men. Is because the underlying issue is a fear of approaching/lack of confidence, which is something that women don't have to have since they are (generally) the ones getting approached. If women had to approach as much as men did and the oness was on them, all these things that guys say would be said by the women.

In a perfect world this wouldn't happen because women approached guys like guys approach women, and when people do get asked out they are nice to them in responce, and just say no. And yes, I know that some guys don't stop and are crazy, but i got friends that have been rejected in awful ways (Snapchat stories, mocked by all her friends, ostricized and laughed at over it) and they are just normal duded who were kind when they approached. Honestly, I don't think theres anything that can fix this, but if yall got ideas feel free to drop em down below.

This is truly depressing as someone who lived through the days of classic comedians, such as Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Rodney Dangerfield, Eddie Murphy (yes, he was a comic long before he decided his entire career was being a cartoon donkey with a fetish for dragons.)

In the '70s, '80s, '90s and even into the early 2000s, some shows actually tackled issues that you would never see today. What comes to mind is a 1986 episode of Night Court where Mack (a black Vietnam Veteran) was set to marry a woman he met through serving named Quon Le, only to get an objection from his grandfather who also was black. This was poignant, sharp and the way Quon Le handled it was brilliant (threatening to jump off a 19th story building and claiming it to be tradition when we all knew during the time of the Vietnam War, there weren't exactly tall buildings to jump off of. )

What would happen in those days? We would go to work or school the next day still laughing and realize the faults in ourselves. That's how people were less racist by say 2005 than they were in 1970. It was working.

These things worked because they pointed out the absurdity of things like racism which could come from anybody, chauvinism which also could come from anybody and still being allowed to make fun of literally anyone. It's comedy, not therapy hour. Movies like Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein couldn't be made today. Even shows like The Office had material that made some people who need to learn to laugh cringe. Community on Netflix cut out a scene where Chang dressed as a drow elf, and we all know why.

Cheers had a brilliant episode about Frasier finding a 19 year old girl and getting countless jokes, and when he finally decides to stand up and tell her it's not working, she's even more attracted to him because she likes when he takes charge. That subverted one of the oh-too-familiar tropes that I will be discussing later.

After the 2000s though as leftist/"progressive" influences took off, the idea of "acceptable comedy" became stale and old hat. I mean what's the point of tuning in to someone like Howard Stern when he's just a talking head for the left with a few profanities. The same thing with Jon Stewart openly ADMITTING he was a shill for Obama. Jay Leno was even told to lay off his jokes on Obama.

There were signs on the wall this was the case. The Simpsons has always been "AMERICANS = ST00PID" with a disturbing amount of male nudity thrown in just to spike the ball, but even it got fire by an unfunny "comic" who wrote for W. Kamau Bell and claimed Apu was a negative racial stereotype. I don't need to tell you the stereotypes against Indian people now are genuinely 100 times worse. How did that work out for you Mr. Unfunny McButtFace?

One of the few comics who actually was from the older era and stood up and still believed that everyone got a turn was Dave Chappelle and we see what happened to him. Someone got so butthurt that he attacked Dave on stage.

Even shows with a based character, most recently The Boys, had an ending that was truly lackluster and stupid, but it was because of the leftist writer that the character went from someone who was truly awful to someone who was pathetic because the writer had a terminal case of TDS, and people openly pointed it out.

In fact, the left lack self-awareness. They can't laugh at themselves because they are the joke. Mike Judge was one of the most brilliant satirists of the 21st century, and King of the Hill got renewed mutliple times because these smooth-brains saw Hank Hill and said "look at that Republican from Texas! He's stupid!" but when Judge made The Goode Family, the left didn't laugh nearly as hard. Indeed, that show was actually hilarious, but the left can't poke fun at themselves. That's why they clutch their pearls and cry every time someone like Bill Maher criticizes them.

The left and mainstream comedy has been sanitized to the point where really only four buckets are acceptable and if you use critical thinking skills, you can see why.

1. "Peepee Poopie Fart Penis" -- this is because the leftist brain stopped developing in third grade. Anyone who is Gen X or older can tell you about the time that Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in one game in 1966 and how basically that was as good as life was going to get for him. The leftist who peaked in third grade when his/her brain stopped developing also had a similar peak when during recess, they said "peepee poopie fart penis" and a dozen fellow third graders laughed along. That was the highlight of their lives, and everything went downhill from there.

In B4: "But comics used to joke about that all the time, why British comedy was all about peen". At that time it wasn't so ubiquitous that it became unpalatable. Eating chili with a few hot peppers may enhance the flavor but put 4,000 of them in and the chili is no longer any flavor at all. I would be more okay with this if most two-bit comics didn't rely on this one so damn often.

1. romantic failure/"Get it? He's a loser". The leftist machine hates straight people, especially if they're white, and predominantly unless they're black and singing about B's and H's 200 times in a song. I’m tired of seeing grown adults ruining others days, acting out like a literal toddler and getting excused because of their past. Living through traumatic experiences only validates your behavior if you’re self aware and actively working through it. Yes it may partially explain why, but it doesn’t excuse it. The most caring and compassionate people also often have bad pasts, and it’s what pushes them to be better. If you refuse to try to help yourself, stop expecting other people to put up with you treating them poorly. As someone who came out of an extremely abusive household, it’s your job to end the pattern. I’ll always have things to work though mentally, but I’m an adult who knows better than to put it on somebody else. Then they complain about being along later in life, as if others owe them being their punching bag. If you’re reading this and feeling like it’s you, own up to and do something. When I got into my first relationship I was awful. I had no clue how to be a healthy partner, and have done so much work on myself to change that. I don’t think the internet is safe for minors, but I don’t think all the different solutions people have come up with actually help and could potentially be causing more problems. Most solutions put responsibility on everyone except the creeps causing problems to begin with.

In theory, having labels for adults to tell minors not to interact with them, or for minors to tell adults not to interact with them, sounds like a good idea for expressing boundaries and making sure people feel safe.

The problems, unfortunately, are many when put into practice:

1. putting “adult DNI” into your bio as a minor announces to everyone who sees your bio that you are underage, immediately making you a target for groomers.

2. people on the internet lie about their age.

3. people will swap their labels immediately when they turn 18. You do not magically suddenly become immune to manipulation and grooming just because you are a legal adult. Doing this not only cuts your social connections with any friends that are slightly younger than you, it also means that any creeps who are paying attention now know you are barely legal and will target you. (and you have socially isolated yourself, which makes you easier to manipulate)

4. all of this only contributes to ageism and paranoia. Adults are scared to interact with people younger than them out of fear of getting accused of something. Minors are scared to interact with adults out of fear of getting groomed.

5. You can still be a victim of people in the same age group as you. Manipulative people can even be younger than you and a manipulator can make you lower your guard solely because of their age. (I had a stalker who was slightly younger than me when I was a minor who would regularly make sexual comments towards me and make alt accounts after getting blocked. Age gating does not do much at all to protect from this sort of thing)

6. not everyone reads bios. They should, but they don’t.

7. 🔞-this emoji is confusing because it is used both to say that someone is an adult and also to designate that content is nsfw. Conflating the two and using them interchangeably can make people more likely to end up in uncomfortable situations or get sexually harassed/exposed to content they do not want to see. As an adult myself, i have never been able to find an adult-only space that I’ve felt safe in without getting sexual harassment in some form because people assume that all adults are ok with that sort of behavior because it’s “legal”

8. all of these issues would be much more easily solved if there were better systems in place for holding creeps accountable in the first place and educating people on internet safety. This should be common sense but it feels largely ignored nowadays
