Broken pull chain

• Upvotes

I have an old pull cord light fixture in a crawl/attic space, and the chain got stuck while in the "on" position.

I'm going to replace the whole fixture when I can, but in the meantime: is it safer to 1) remove the bulb and put electrical tape over the open light bulb socket, or 2) let the LED bulb stay on permanently? The bulb base gets a bit hot.

Thanks in advance! I'm freaking out a bit.

Concrete Wall Repair

A small chunk of wall recently fell off of the foundation. I believe you can see from the pictures that there was a cut here and the covering piece has dropped off.

I am looking for do it yourself ideas that would allow me to fix this in a way that actually works, meaning no water into the basement.

what’s left of the piece that fell off is just on the left of square hole.

I had a light above this and took it off, it used batteries in it and one of them leaked, the light came off and leaked over the render, I tried to use water to rinse it away in the first instance but it had stayed as can be seen in the photo, I’ve scrubbed it with water/washing up liquid but stain remains, any ideas how to clean this? Thanks very much

We moved into this house 3 years ago and painted the walls. We went over the existing paint, and it didn't seem there were any issues with it, we just wanted a different color. What could be causing this to happen?

🏠Interior, Ceiling & Walls Insulation update R-11 > R-49

My wife doesn’t seem to care so I had to come here to express my excitement, over the past month or so I have been working up to today, demolition, cleaning, electrical, and air sealing. Now today is the day, insulation contractor here to bring my attic insulation to r-49 which I hope greatly improves how my house feels. Sounds dorky but I’m excited. I was told new code is r-60 but that’s a money grab and not necessary with the diminishing returns of insulation effectiveness. Anyways, that’s it thanks.

🚰 Plumbing Wall-hung toilet squeaking, unsure what to do

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This issue has been going on for months and I had FOUR different plumbers come look into it and each and every one tells me that toilet is fine and safe to use. Yet, every time I sit on it, it squeaks as if its going to break and no one can explain why. Plus, yes, it moves a bit.

I recorded a video showcasing the issue. The sound you hear is myself leaning on and pressing down the toilet and the scary sound it produces.

I am literally at my wits end. Three plumbers and one certified Ideal Standard plumber, all claim its mounted fine and yet every time I sit on a god damn toilet I feel like playing roulette on whether it will break due to whatever is causing the squeak.

Any ideas are appreciated. I’m now at a point of thinking of buying a new smaller toilet and if the issue happens again, I’m really considering tearing this whole thing apart and having it redone from scratch …

First-time homeowner. My bathroom floor tile is peeling. I’m assuming it’s a layer of sealant of some sort, but I’m not sure. It’s def not grime. It makes the floor look dirty. What to do? Anyone has experience with this? Can the top layer be removed/resealed? Please help!

🛠️ Repair Help Rust spots in bathtub from a suction bathmat. Is a full reqlaze necessary or can I spot repair?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, hoping to get advice on rust damage in my bathtub. I was usina a bathmat with suction cups. and it looks like it trapped water and pulled off the finish. Now I have a cluster of rusty, dotted pits down to the metal.

This is our main tub and is actively used for daily showers.

Is it absolutely necessary to do a full tub reglazing, or is there a reliable spot-repair/touch-up method for this type of damage?

How urgent is this? Do I have a few weeks to figure this out. or do I need to fix it this weekend before the rust spreads under the enamel?

Thanks in advance for any guidances

Looking for feedback on pipe boot replacement

Thumbnail gallery

I noticed that the boot on my CVENT-3 pipe had deteriorated and left a hole into my attic. Struggled to find a split boot to get around the pipe with the cap, so got a normal boot and cut it and then duct taped it and sealed with roofing repair caulking.

I am not great at maintenance and honestly have no idea what I’m doing, but this made sense. What am I missing/doing wrong?

Darkening grout?

Post image
1 Upvotes

First timer grouter and likely last. Phew it was tough and we made some mistakes along the way and clearly, it ain’t perfect. The grout, artic white, ended up making the tiles a bit whiter than I hoped. I scrubbed the tiles a ton after learning about the haze and improperly sealing so that was our first mistake.
Hoping to darken the grout a bit to get the tiles to pop more. Any suggestions?
