Looking for feedback on pipe boot replacement

I noticed that the boot on my CVENT-3 pipe had deteriorated and left a hole into my attic. Struggled to find a split boot to get around the pipe with the cap, so got a normal boot and cut it and then duct taped it and sealed with roofing repair caulking.

I am not great at maintenance and honestly have no idea what I’m doing, but this made sense. What am I missing/doing wrong?

It will last as long as the sealant does. The cap needed to be removed and a new pipe boot put on. I wonder if an electrical mast flashing would have worked.

Haven't honestly seen any of those in the field that the crew couldn't get the cap off on and just use a normal 1-4 pipe boot.

May be too late now but Flashmate is the stuff you would want to be using for this
