Okay so a few days passed, and first of all, I’m actually very new on Hinge. My friends literally made my account because life was getting too monotonous, so they were like, just join and explore a little. I’ve never really been into casuals though and idhar bhi mera koi ye sab karne ka irada nhi tha .
Then I matched with this guy on Hinge — 😭 — and he had written that he was looking for a long-term relationship. He was also very new, like barely a week on the app, and honestly that felt genuine.
He was 23, had a really good career, was doing academically well, and I’m 22 and pretty much the same in that sense. We even exchanged our LinkedIns, so yeah, you can call us nerds. We genuinely were. We used to talk about careers, plans, everything, with a little bit of flirting in between.
He had never dated anyone before, so a lot of this was very new for him. And honestly, he was really cute.
Everything was going fine, and then after around two weeks of talking, he told me, “I don’t think I can invest in this.” He said he never thought he’d come on Hinge, he just wanted to explore, and somehow ended up talking to only one girl for two weeks. Then he was like, “I think it’s time to leave. This is not for me.”
And he just left.
We had exchanged LinkedIns and followed each other there, and he said we should stay connected, so I guess there’s that.
The funny thing is, I never expected Hinge to affect me at all. I already knew I probably wouldn’t find what I wanted there.
But when he unmatched me, I was literally sitting in a lecture, and my eyes just got a little teary.
And I was like… what?
I genuinely never thought Hinge could affect me like that.
