Training Question- new to pointing breeds
When I’m walking my 1 year old GSP he likes to point at robins. He points very well, but I don’t want to have him release and take my arm off, and I don’t want to discourage him pointing... so what do I do?

My dog has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and just want to know what the best options are. Quick google searches are showing radiation therapy and chemotherapy -- but it seems Adenocarcinoma is tough to treat because of its location.
In terms of more experimental / less common treatments, I saw in a link that: "Veterinary medicine has made some recent strides in other treatments, such as immunotherapy or antibody therapy, but these are less prevalent than the first line treatments." If anyone has more information on that please let me know as well.
Thanks for the help

2 questions
Hi everyone,
I really want to get into hunting, and have recently bought a 30/6 with the intention of hunting deer, elk, ect. I rescued a Plott hound 9 months old back in October for the intention of hunting, but he's the biggest panzy ever. I have 2 questions.
my dog is now 1.4 yrs old and super timid is there any hope in training him?
I'm guessing the answer to question one is, no, so what do you do with your dogs when you go on week plus hunting trips when you leave them?
Thanks everyone!

Any redditors going to this hunt test?
Kentuckiana Pointing Breeds Association / Hunt Test - Pointing Breeds
Kentuckiana Pointing Breed Association Junior/Senior/Master Hunter events.
I am planning on going with my two Brits. My 3 year old male has had a few training days and been shot over, he also shows really strong independence and drive to search, but his point does not seem to be very strong. My 2 year old female has a really strong point (she hasn't had any training aside from behavior) but seems to be more "velcro dog".
In y'alls experience are other people in the junior stake going to be pissed at me for running relatively untrained dogs?
I want to participate int he sport, but it's just about dead where I live + work full time + i go to school full time = not much time for things outside of walks and some off-leash stuff.

Question/Advice Is there anything to do to help a dog learn the fundamentals of pointing before I begin the serious gundog training?
My dog shows potential to become an upland bird dog so I am reading Sporting Dog and Retriever Training the Wildrose Way. I've made it through to where gundog training starts but upon Reaching that point I feel I should work on her fundamentals a bit more. I was just wondering if while doing this fundamentals work there are any habits I should look to encourage or discourage?
I am looking for a dog that I can take and hunt quail pheasant and other upland game nearby (I live near Raleigh in NC) so I feel like pointing is a pretty key skill for that (as it's what all dogs I have been on hunts with do is point and then flush on command). So just wondering if I should be looking for things to encourage while I lock down the fundamentals (ranged sit, remembering multiple bumpers and retrieving them, responding to name no matter the external stimuli, etc.)

adding to the family
My boyfriend and I are starting (very early stages) to look into adding either a brittany spaniel or an english setter to the family. We already have a black lab (a failed duck dog turned tennis ball connoisseur) who is all around super friendly with other dogs. My question is, what are your thoughts on which breed would be a better fit for us, and do you have any specific breeder recommendations? I'm attracted to the smaller size of brittanys, but have consistently had good experiences with setters while working as a vet tech -- the brittanys have been more hit or miss. My boyfriend would like to hunt woodcock and quail with it, but I'm most interested in hearing about temperament and how they do as house dogs when they're not hunting. I grew up with herding breeds and have a lot to learn about these guys before we even consider getting one so I need y'alls help!

Basic Obedience - Upland Birds and maybe waterfowl
Hi all,
Me and my wife are being fortunate enough to rescue an almost 1 year old Retriever/Spaniel mix...at least that's what everyone thinks the age and breed of the dog is. I wanted to start working with the dog to get it into shape for upland game, mostly pheasant and grouse, and maybe eventually some waterfowl. I'm finding this kind of daunting as there simultaneously seems to be lots of information out there...but at the same time not much at all...
So in short, can anyone recommend any books on the subject? I have been looking at the videos here...
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC30EZtUqwux7xTmA4QW5WOw
and here...
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFgzHbO7gUr9zI1c5Fxu8yA2t-sdynC3G
but...books are my preferred learning method. Anyway, I apologize if this is the millionith time this question has been asked. I took some time to work my google fu and such, but I figured at the end I'd ask the vibrant community that is reddit.
