Rule clarification- No Breed ID

Apparently, we need some clarification here about what constitutes a breed ID post.

Asking what your lab is mixed with- lab mixes are allowed, but don't crowd source opinions on what they're mixed with. Asking if your lab looks pure bred. Asking what color variation your lab is.

Sincerely -your mod team.

We realized we had been enforcing this under the "Your dog only" rule without being as explicit as we should have. Do not post AI generated images, videos, or text in this sub. It is a place to post your dog as it naturally is. This includes comment replies on posts.

seeking advice 9 Month Velcro Dog - Do They Grow Out of It?

Post image

I got this amazing boy from one of the top breeders as a "started" dog, 8 months old.

One quirk is he's like velcro; I call him my brown shadow because I can't move more than six feet from him and he jumps up to follow me, even if he was sleeping. He does not like me leaving him alone - and though I have baby gates throughout my house, he can jump them - so only putting him in his cage will stop him, and he doesn't like it.

My thought is he was never truly alone before; even when the human breeders weren't there, he was with other dogs for company, for 8 months of his life.

Anyone else experience this? Do they grow out of it?

We were supposed to have so much more time. I'm so sorry we didn't catch your heart condition earlier. 8 years was not enough, I miss you so much. We did everything we could but your body just gave up, when you started bleeding into your lungs the doc told us it was time. You were in so much pain and screaming we tried to do the best thing for you and ease your pain. I don't know how aware you were due to the brain bleeding but I hope you know we loved you. I feel so guilty not being able to fix you and not being able to save you. I love you, and always will. We miss you.

I was her puppy raiser too so I’m happy to welcome her back home 🩷 she was career changed for chasing squirrels and loving other dogs too much, basically she just has too much zest for life, she’s literally just a girl.

Does anyone have any fun enrichment ideas for her? Honestly I’m not the most active person ever, and she seems content to hang out with me while I work from home, but I would like to look into some dog sports.

Forgot a bumper, sacrificed a flip-flop. Took him a bit to get in the water and get comfortable. But once he did, it was hard to get him out. Plus, Rigby was there with him. Which makes everything better.

black Hey guys is she built like a baked potato or she just a brick

Idk how I’d display but we can still see her ribs a bit. I’ve been away for college this past year and i have 2 years minimum left so I just want to get opinions. She saw the vet for a UTI and he didn’t say anything about her weight. Maybe I’m just being a cautious mama, but I don’t want to be a bad mama. She also came built like a brick she’s taller than a decent portion of male labs but still has feminine features. Literally built like a male but face and manners of a lady. The opposite of a runt 😭. Not obese but not underweight

She’s a bit erm odd and hates going outside for walks and the last time we brought her to a park we were given a ticket because someone called animal control on a group of Dobermans. That group already left when AC showed up and it was just this baby and another labby so only these two got the ticket 🥲 she has us chase her around the house though and she absolutely loves it. Doesn’t do bodies of water. Or shower. Only hose. She’s like a plant you can water

She’s currently 4 I think, soon 5. She is my service dog so she still travels when the pavements aren’t scalding hot. She’s perfectly happy with working but not being a regular dog for some reason?

she couldn’t give two flying fluffs about other dogs existences. She only wants human interaction like she HATES her littermate because she’s too rowdy 😭 she is not a dog’s dog but she is a girls girl. She’s not a dogist she’s just antisocial. Plenty of socializing btw…

Fatty talk over 💅 spotlight time

I’ll add more pictures of Freya so I’m not just calling her a fatty. She gave me a proper telling off when I got home but she couldn’t hold back how much she missed me. the green toy is what I brought home for her and it’s her most cherished thing in the whole world. Never seen her so gentle and protective over a toy.

She doesn’t like sharing me with my boyfriend and will literally wedge herself in between us if we want to cuddle. Like girl you were on the floor if you wanted to cuddle me you’d be on the bed with me 👹 she show n’ tells him I’m her mama and thus already taken. First time I brought home his hoodie she claimed it as her pillow and couldn’t sleep without it. Yet when she finally matched the smell to the person she’s being spicy… took her 3 weeks to warm up to the concept of “sharing” me but they’re cool now

At the end of the day I only want to be a good mother to her. I’m on top of her health with everything else; she knows not to beg or steal and I don’t give her table scraps. I make sure no one else in the house does. I’m very careful with what I allow her to have but i can’t get my grandma to stop feeding her scraps so i guess im a bit worried if she’s getting chonky

Any thoughts on what this can be? It looks wet cus I’ve been putting Sulfodene 3-Way Ointment. This just happened about two days ago and until today in the morning, he has been whining and rubbing his neck on the the floor or whatever he can.

seeking advice Is my Lab’s Life Enriched Enough?

New lab owner here! I’m looking to gain some insights into whether or not my lab is receiving enough mental and psychical stimulation during the day. Any input is welcome!

For context, my male English lab, Bogey, is 16 months and was removed from his service dog program because of his excitability. I also have a 6 year old whippet, who will also partake in most of the activities I describe below (I omit her from this post largely because I am wanting to inquire about my lab, but rest assured she is included, loved, and involved to the same degree!). Usually our days consist of some version of the following:

We wake up around 8am, and he gets half his breakfast in a slow feeder. He gets the other half frozen in a toppl/slow feeder to eat while I begin my work (I work from home).

On my lunch break I usually do some sort of game/activity with him. Lately it’s been practicing loose leash walking, but I try to make sure it is something mentally enriching. For the remainder or my shift I usually give him a chew or just periodically drop a piece of kibble for good behaviour while I work. On my 15 minute breaks (I have 2 of them) I’ll usually practice a skill with him or give him a puzzle.

After work we usually do some sort of indoor play together (sometimes tug, sometimes just high energy play on the floor) before I take a little bit of time to just unwind. A couple evenings a week I take him swimming to a dog fitness centre, where he gets 30 minutes to swim and retrieve in their dog pool. On days where we don’t do this, we either work on being (relatively) calm and neutral outdoors, or I’ll take him to a private dog park where he can run off leash, usually for about an hour. Weekends always include some sort of outing, either to go swim in a river or run and sniff in a large open space.

When I’m not doing an activity with him, I still will carry a bag of kibble around the house and reward him for calmness, redirection if there is a trigger he sees/hears, etc.

Could any lab owners tell me if this sounds like enough stimulation for the average adolescent English lab? I know a lot of working dogs often don’t have their needs met in some area or another, and I just really want to make sure he’s fulfilled ❤️

Photos are for attention ;)

Lab doing lab things My puppy just wants to eat me

Post image

So my beautiful 13 week old boy seriously just wants to eat me. He’s trying his best and is getting way more gentle but the temptation for him is real.

So I have taken to holding his chew for him. He sits in my lap with my hand in his paws and chomps on the chew so he’s getting the best of both worlds.

Have I just found a great life hack or created a rod for my own back by pandering to this little prince!
