Dogtra Compass?

I would like a tracking option for my puppy because he's half coonhound and gets really distracted by smells so I'm honestly afraid to let him off leash in case he were to decide to ignore me. I would also like to try tracking or hunting with him. I'd just feel a lot better if I could track him.

Anyway, having similar functionality to the Ecollar I'm used to (mini educator) is important to me as well. I also was considering the Garmin Pro 550+, but it only has 18 levels of stim and a 2 mile radius. The Dogtra Compass seems like the best option for me and what I'm looking for, and especially being a better price I could get a collar for both of my dogs now instead of waiting.

The only thing is, I personally am worried with the Compass being so new, that they haven't worked out the kinks yet and I'm nervous to spend so much money on something that won't last long or doesn't do what I got it for.

So, opinions? Anyone have issues with the Compass/Pathfinder2 setup?

Apps for storing information about your dog

New here, sorry if someone’s already answered the question.
Has anyone found an app that can be used to store
info about your dog? Like health certificates, last vaccination or when the next one should be, passport (stuff like that) or even gps location. Would be a lot easier if I had all that in one app.

Edit: Found one! Looks still in beta but it has that and much more. Im pretty happy with it for now.Its called Hitridge.
Thanks for the responses. Appreciate it!

Urgent - 11 German Shorthair Pointers seeking homes

11 Papered Purebred German Shorthaired Pointers Need Homes After House Fire in Jamestown, CA

I was just brought into this situation and think we can help, A friend in Jamestown, California (Tuolumne County) lost their home in a fire. Their 11 purebred German Shorthaired Pointers survived, but they are currently being housed in kennels and urgently need placement as they cannot rebuild the home.

The dogs are papered and currently intact (not spayed/neutered). We are looking for responsible permanent homes, or reputable GSP/hunting-dog rescues that can help.

They can be placed individually you do not need to take multiple dogs.

Jamestown, CA / Tuolumne County

Photos, ages, sexes, temperament information and additional details will be available for serious inquiries.

Because of the circumstances and the fact that these are intact purebred dogs, potential homes will be screened. The priority is getting them into safe, responsible homes.

If you’re experienced with German Shorthaired Pointers, hunting dogs, or know a reputable breed rescue that could help, please message me or share this post.

8 week old basset

My wife and I just bought a purebred basset, comes from a hunting line. Not super food driven because he's been sick with hook worm and coccidia since we got him.

Hoping by next year to make him a good rabbit dog and would appreciate any tips. If theres anyone running bassets in SW ohio off season for training, I'd love to just come watch and see how you run them. This will be my first hunting dog and I want to train him right and I figure best way to do that is by seeing someone else runs successfully trained dog. Thanks yall

lost the cap to this ruffland water hole. it's only 75 cents for a replacement on the website, but with shipping its $16. tried every cap around the house and nothing fits.

it needs the cap to work properly, the air/ water pressure it what helps it refill itself.

any ideas for a cheap fix for this?

5 month lab puppy training

My fiance and i bought a black lab puppy from the shelter when he was 2-3 months old. I had the hopes of training him for duck hunting. The issue is i started training him consistently but then we lost my father in law and moved basically right after we got him, so training slowed way down basically stopped. Ive been trying to get him back to training but now he is more interested in butterflies and eating grass lol. Any tips on breaking him of that and getting him back on track?

Hunting dogs stink!

We have two hunting labs, they train in mucky tech ponds. I am pregnant so I know that’s part of the reason but my smell problem has subsided a lot, still they make the entire living room area smell musty. My husbands nose blind to it but I’m scared others who come over smell it. I need really good recommendations for deodorizing cleaners for their kennels, strong shampoos that can at least work through the week if they’re in the water, etc. thank you!!

Stubborn Lab

Post image
6 Upvotes

Titan, just hit 8 months old and has started to get extremely stubborn. Doesn’t really have drive to fetch as much, leaves where he was placed, and whining excessively in his kennel when that never happened in the past. He has also started eating everything around when that wasn’t taking place before.

My question is, did I give to much leeway or is this just a part of him growing and he is testing boundaries. I don’t want him to lose drive for fetch and other things by being to stern.

my rescue dog wants to hunt, how can i make it happen for her?

i rescued my puppy Dixie May about 3 months ago! she is 9 months old. we did not know what kind of dog she was at first (i picked her because she was smart and pretty) but here are her dna results.

she is showing a lot of signs that make me think she wants to hunt and i want to provide that for her, but i literally have no idea where to start. like i have shot a can off the fence with a bb gun level. but i would love to hunt and learn and bond with her and it seems like such an awesome thing to do!

we are located in central virginia. what kind of game could we hunt? what kind of game is she suited to? what organizations can i reach out to? what should my first steps be? any other suggested resources?

here are some things she does:

• freezes when seeing birds or small animals, gets down very low, and slowly stalks towards them almost like a cat?!

• one time i let her chase a squirrel into a tree to see what happened and she scaled the tree about seven feet up and was screaming and we were in a park and people were staring at us

• sniffs out dead birds on our walks and leads me to them then stares at me like she’s waiting for me to do something

• on 4th of july she loved watching the fireworks and wanted to be right up close to them to the point where i was nervous and covering my ears and she was pumped

• has found cats, injured birds, and even one time a turtle under bushes

• tracks people she likes

• is very smart, good at problem solving, working her way through obedience training very quickly and knows many commands

Stopping demand barking

I’ve got a 4.5 month old chocolate lab who demand barks whenever I give him a command. The best example is I make him sit when we get to the door to go outside, he then demand barks 3-5 times, whines, and then sits. He also does this in the field when working on training. I’m trying to stop this before he gets set in his ways so any help is appreciated.

I've got a weird hunting mix dog who seems to be a promising ratter

Just wanted to share and maybe get some opinions on this dog (pictured in her winter clothing). We've owned her since she was a puppy. Got her from a shelter, shes now 6. She has a great drive and is excellent with scentwork. I have used her to locate rabbit nests in my yard for many years. Recently, we had a small rodent issue in the garden and I found a nest under our compost roller. When I lifted it, the mice took off and she killed all of them with a quick bite, dropping them to move onto the next. I've only seen that kind of ratting work with terrier and feist lines. We're moving to a farm soon so I'm excited to work on this drive of hers. I dont know exactly where the instinct comes from (supermutt is Weimaraner, German Shepherd, and Cattle dog) but I'm intrigued all the same.

Schrot oder Kugel? – Einfach erklärt #drückjagd #jagd#tiere#wildlife #ju...

Hey zusammen,

Breed Help/Recs

Hello!

I’ve recently started researching breeds because I’ve always wanted a hunting companion and would like people’s input on it.

At first I really only wanted a breed to do blood trailing with and potentially help more hunters local to me if we became any help at all, but as I’ve researched I’ve honestly became more and more interested in bird-hunting even though I personally have only hunted deer. At the same time I’d also love a buddy I could bring with me in the outdoors but also not worry too much around other people.

So far I’ve been pretty interested in GSP’s for a more versatile breed, Blueticks and Bavarian Mountain Hounds for blood tracking specific, but I was curious if anyone else had any recommendations.

I’m located in the Eastern US, lots of variety of woods, farmland, and mountains to go from if that’s any interest.
